Excellent job Tomislav. I've returned loads of blows. And it's good to look back on how I've improved over the years.
That is true, thank you for your input and watching 😀
A great refurbishment tommi
Nice to see how to go about re finishing, but as a Memory bowl, I would not have changed it. I still have one of my 'Clunky' bowls from seven years ago when I first started. I can put it against today's bowls and compare my progress.
Definitely an improvement Tomislav.
Thanks Jack, I think so as well
That looks amazing.
I love how you left the original band, great video!
Thanks buddy👍
Definite improvement. And that band of paint will be a lovely reminder of your progress. I don't like the idea of having to preserve things in a museum in your own home, things that are ment to be used and enjoyed. Now you can enjoy this bowl without wincing every time you have to look at it! And I know that feeling.
That is nicely said sir.... Thank you for watching
Beautiful!
Beautiful bowl tomislav I'd be ashamed to show my first attempt at a bowl, maybe I'll give it a makeover some day ,thanks for sharing buddy great video 👍😊
Thanks Will, we all made first bowls not all that great but thats normal😅
I would need to get my first first plate/bowl I did, I think one of the clients have it☺️
That's a great makeover! Love the band. I'm still at the early turning stage, but one day
Improved!
Looks lovely.
Nice work dude. It looks beautiful 👍👍
Thank you👍
Definitely an improvement! I like that you left the band on it. The patina on the green reminds me of an antique piece of crockery.
In truth I don't like paint on a bowl in general and I did not care for the original . however you're returning turned out really well and I like it Very much
Thank you very much
I re-turned the nut bowl I made 65 years ago in junior high school. Very satisfying to give it new, and prettier, life.
Awsome, that is one old bowl and really glad you did it 😀
Excellent refresh, Tomislav. Nice choice to remember the original bowl.
Thanks Jay
Perfect upgrade, Tomislav. Beautiful bowl. 😊😊
Thanks 😀
An excellent idea to go back and rework an old piece and see how you have improved. I am going to try this on one of my older pieces. Thank you very much!
Go for it,its fun to see the progress
Nice job turning the old to new! I really prefer the band of color over the whole bowl being blue. Amazed at how thin you turn your bowls …. Mark of a true craftsman 🤠🇨🇱
Thank you Randy, I really appriciate that ☺️
As always an amazing job! Thank you for sharing.
Nice upgrade. And good tips as always. Glad you kept the memory rim.
Thanks Joris👍
Ah, yes my first bowl, I have to have a laugh and share , I bought a lathe and started turning without ANY instructions, so I didn’t pit together that mounting the wood sideways was how a bowl was made, so it’s an end grain, and I still have it!😂
🕶big improvement Tomislav. Very nice
Thank you Steven
I've re-turned old bowls to improve them. Many in my club believe I should not have done it because it is a history of my turning journey. I see the flaws and can't live with them! I do like the original milk paint band. Good idea! I'm wondering if putting a disk on the inside would help to bring the bowl into round?
If it was green then you might do that but this is ridgit elm and well dry so its hard to manipulate with it...
But that only gives the charm even more😀
Love the update!
Thank you
Very nice the up grade to the tenon is great I plan on returning one my bowl s like yours. Thanks
Go for it, its fun to see the progress over the years
As occasionally noted, the enemy of good is perfect. The bowl was in good condition so far as cracks go, and it had a nice patina. Clearly it was not a failure. Why change it just for an aesthetic convention? Indeed, some areas of the wall are now a different thickness than others. Will that create stress that will eventually result in a crack?
Nope, this one will remain crack free as its well seasoned and stable to use.... I think its important to do stuff like this and to cut your good bowls in half so you can feel what and see what is going on with fingers and what they feel and eyes see.... Its constant improvement....
Something I learned from my mentor...
And ofcourse I don't correct every old bowl I have ,some remain as they are
Very good project. I've considered turning a bowl with a slightly raised band around the top Edge in Imitation of some ceramic bowls I have seen.
That is good idea, they can look beautiful if done right
i wish i had the courage to go that thin
Its same as with regular thickness but only with less pressure and you go slower as its easier to prevent chatter....
Thank you Brett😀
That wood might not be the best to turn, but it really finishes beautifully! The grain pattern is simple, and the colors subtle, but it looks really good, which is why I always prefer a more natural finish over paint, though the milk paint as a small feature does accentuate the bowl nicely.
Indeed,I don't mind work with this perticular elm as it is beauty, especially the blanks I have drying currently....
Thank you very much for watching
Love that you left the original band.
Great video, I am confused about your spindle gouges, the ones I have don't have a deep flute like yours, have they started making them like this because I am afraid to use them on bowls. Mine are 25 years old and I would like to use them if I can. Can you help me.
The one in this video has a deeper flute, a little bit.... But same tehnique is on the shallow gouge as well on detail gouge that has really shallow flute.... Tilt so that the tool is around 45 to 50 degrees or 10-10:30h and start with using left of the Point of the tool
