France 24; do you know anything about American politics? It is common for citizens here to register for the opposite party from the one they support to "rig" the primaries by voting for weaker candidates (less likely to win the general election). This would especially be true for a 20 year old (like the shooter) who would have only registered to vote 2 years ago if he believed the propaganda (spread over the last 8 years) that Trump was the next "Hitler" so he could have voted in the Republican primary earlier this year for an alternate candidate.

I live in Virginia, and I have voted in the other party's primary because my party did not have a good "other option," so I would vote in the other primary in order to possibly get someone that I would prefer for the other side to choose.
I am a fan viewer of France24, but they need to be more careful about facts before reporting things like this. The only fact is that he voted in the Republican primary in 2022. Rhetoric like this is dangerous because it will be a falsehood that will carry forward for a long time.

According to the NYT he donated to the "Democrats" (Progressive Turnout Project). So he clearly was a *supporter* of the "Democrats". What he is registered as has nothing to do with that. He might have registered for Republicans for various reasons, e.g. to vote in the Republican primaries (in PA only possible for registered voters), or even to now create just this kind of confusion.

Republicans register as Democrats; while Democrats register as Republicans so we can vote in party primary elections of the opposing party.
Primary elections determine which Democrat, or which Republican will be nominated to run in the general election.
If I were a Democrat, and I didn't want Trump to be nominated, I would register as Republican and vote for his opponent.
However, I can not switch my registration back to Democrat until after the general election. It doesn't matter, because I'd then vote for every Democrat candidate on the ballot for local, state, and national office despite being a "Republican". Then switch back to Democrat before the mid term elections. Registration to any party means nothing. Absolutely nothing.
