  • Around the year 2030 or 2031, that stretch of I-24 will go from eight to 12 lanes. But here's the catch - you'll have to pay each time you use them.

During destruction, er.. construction, traffic will be at a standstill all day long. So will Murfreesboro Rd and Nolensville Pk. Planners here suck! What we need is rail, not more cars on I24

or ya know, just have Bus Rapid Transit lines throughout metro nashville. have trams connecting the outter towns within metro nashville to downtown, and have BRT for the outter towns.
trams to brentwood, la vengue, goodlettsville, bellveue, and mt juliet.
BRT for the connecting cities like franklin, hindersonville, columbia, and others.
and commuter rail to go as far west as jackson tn, and to go as far east as cookville tn, to go as far north as bowling green ky, and as far south as pulaski tn. each end terminus having connecting transit hubs for county or the already established cities. surrounding the tram stops you have bus routes connecting the tram stops to the rest of the city.
and you do a tram that circles nashville city along the davidson county line, or if you want just the entire length of briley parkway/TN-155 with transfer stations at each stop.
you also make sure that comfort is high for stops and transfer stations. invite the private sector for transit station shops and such, and you have a metro and BRT line connecting nashville airport to the downtown core/broadway.
do all of that, with the toll roads, and you have basically a 10B dollar operation that makes traveling to nashville a nice walk in the park.

I moved here from Northern Virginia just outside of Washington DC. We have this there called Express Lanes and you use your EzPass to ride in them. It does not work. It's a nightmare, and all the dollars they collect go to the Australia based company that built, owns, and operates the service. The local government gets a kickback. What a joke! Do not go this route, literally. They could not prevent the lanes from bogging up with traffic. People paid to sit. The prices got so high that 10 miles was $35. They started out low, but in the end it's gouging. Look it up and see.....start with Arlington VA.

When you say they don't work do you mean the transponders don't work like they're supposed to? I just bought an E-ZPass transponder but I haven't used it yet it's the removable one with the suction cups that looks like a block

Fight it and don’t let them pass it! It’s just another tax and the money does nothing for us!

Increasing the number of lanes rarely improves traffic flow. It often does the opposite and makes it worse. Los Angeles and CalTrans spent $1 billion widening Interstate 405 through the Sepulveda Pass, only for traffic to become worse after than it was before. This will be a total waste of tax payer dollars like it always is. So how do you actually reduce traffic? You change your development pattern to favor tight-knit communities with amenities within walking distance, and rapid public transit that is far more space efficient than everybody taking their own car. We've known this for a long time now. TDOT knows better, they just refuse to accept it because that would require changing the status quo ever so slightly and government bureaucrats don't like change.

Such an obviously terrible idea when considering the advantages of a light rail system. This is so stupid.

So why does the " people" of the United States always feel like private contractors are the best way to solve infrastructure problems.

personally i think thats a good thing, so long as they are regulated.
i get they want to bring in corporations to the bid, and they should, but they should absolutely try to get the same corporations under simple but strict regulations.
like having local transit pay it for free, and to have a median in the middle thats about 30 feet wide for trams, metro, trains/brightline and for other transit options.
adding lanes don't work, unless they are tolled, then it gets people off the roads.
but knowing TN, they won't regulate it as it would only add cost and decrease the pool of companies wanting to bid on it.

@@mad4hats797 corporations are also why you still have a fucking job in this god forsaken country! after all, they basically bought out all the small businesses that went belly up during the pandemic.
they need regulation, but they also need to be broken up and fucking anti-trust laws be updated and ENFORCED!

I'm from the Seattle/Tacoma and S. California area. Super bad idea to toll the roads. Don't do it. You cannot undo this once it's done. They'll keep raising the prices over time and eventually will claim another lane to increase revenues and meet other budgets. Don't vote for this! It's already proven to be a train wreck for the States that have already tried it. What we should encourage is more remote work. It was the trend during COVID-19, and it worked with better supervision and accountability.

  • @mikethomas3498

This is just ridiculous. The fact that they would charge drivers to drive on the roads that the state should be providing for free. Real allocate money whatever it takes. All you’re doing is opening up the door to another tax and that is the tax anybody that would like to move freely From Murphysboro into Nashville.

This proposal could rapidly become obsolete by simply the fact that the on-board technology in vehicles is rapidly evolving. Although "autopilot" and other similar systems are not there yet, they will be perfected in the near future, allowing cars to run closer together at higher speeds, increasing the ability of existing roads to accommodate more capacity.
