I had two jobs in which I was most happy. Those jobs gave me autonomy and allowed me to make some of my own decisions. I didnt have someone constantly reviewing everything I did and judging it.
Hi Andy, tripped over your channel while doing a UA-cam search on a question I had related to being interviewed for a job. I’ve now been watching your videos for 4 hours and 17 minutes. I’m now going to rip myself away. I’d like to leave this comment……when I get a job….after I have landed said job…I have a story for you. I’ve learned more about the hiring process in 4+ hours than I have in 3.5 years. The power of “the story” has shown its value over centuries, in so many different contexts. It always comes back to the stories. Thank you. 🙏
Andy this is the reminder I needed. Im in a fortunate position where I'm getting laid off at the end of the month and I'm pretty deep in the hiring process with a few companies. I'm far enough to where I expect a few offers to roll in over the next week or so and Im at a point in my life and career where there is so much pressure on myself to make the right choice. Looking beyond just compensation, you reminded me that growth and opportunity (and leadership) are the key factors in making my choice. Thank you for all of the helpful and amazing content!
Whenever I doubt going forward with my goal, your information is right on target! Happiness/contribution past and now looking forward to having that again!!!!
Spot on! This is exactly what I needed to hear today to move forward. Your knowledge and insight are bar none! Thank you so much for creating such helpful and thoughtful content! You rock!
Andy, you made this video around the time I was laid off. At that time I definitely thought all I needed to do was make the right resume and apply, apply, apply. Time and perspective have helped me to see that I'm not willing to just accept anything because it's called a job and I met a percentage of the qualifications., I Just started a journey this morning with digging deep to understand what it is I'm really looking for so this video was timely. Thank you!
You are the best Andy !! What you are saying is all true and it was answering my hidden question..and to have both growth & contribution while doing job is a blessing..to have them both also require our hard works and patients..
I respectfully disagree with the notion that "contribution" is the paramount concern for most people. While it's a lovely sentiment, I believe it doesn't capture the full picture and may not be entirely accurate. It sounds idealistic, but large-scale surveys and research suggest otherwise. I suspect there's more beneath the surface of this claim. Furthermore, my perspective has evolved over time, and I no longer fully support this generalization. I believe it's less about the mere act of contributing and more about individuals feeling valued and appreciated. This appreciation manifests in two significant ways: firstly, through a competitive salary that reflects one's worth and contributions; and secondly, through career advancement opportunities. However, it's also essential to note the power of simple gestures. A sincere "well done" from a manager, or any form of public recognition, can be just as impactful, if not more so, than any monetary incentive.
I appreciate you sharing this. I agree there are more requirements (and have other videos that go deeper into this). I do think people can work in places where they don’t feel they’re contributing. I just do think they will be truly happy which was entirely my message.
I'm an introvert, high achiever, and sometimes perfectionist. I don't want lip service. I prefer a reward of substance. I can't say anything good about people who think accolades equal substance.
Andrew,,,I'm so happy I stumbled across your podcast! It's perhaps "Jungian synchronicity". This is exactly where I find myself at âge 65. I look forward to hearing more and learning. You hit the nail on the head brother.
Dear Community! If you don't get THIS right, it doesn't matter what your job is. Hope you enjoy this and I'll see you Thursday for Live Office Hours!

Andy what do you say to someone who wants the job so badly that there are willing to work for almost nothing and bad boss?
You’re worth more than that. That’s what I’d say to you!!
@@andylacivita Concur!
Working for almost nothing with a bad boss is better than homelessness

It was a drag it took almost 4 mins before it got to the point
Could have been a one-sentence tweet.
Nice. We did do the 10 second short version too. If you want to check it out, it was one of the recents one. Enjoy!
