Did you catch the blooper in the end? :)
Really great video! Thanks
I love the aluminum foil in the box idea. What a great and inexpensive way to increase the light!
I enjoy the fact that you get to the point in your videos and you give out so much information.
thank you
I haven’t had leggy seedlings but still enjoyed the informative video. I used a spinach container just like you showed to start 3 Katakpa Trees from seed last Fall. I repotted in saved 6 inch plastic nursery pots but still set them in the bottom of a spinach tub. I then turn another spinach tub upside down on it to raise the humidity and I can put them out in sun light even when it’s cold out. Can’t wait to see how they do when planted this year. Love your videos. Keep up the good work. I bet you’re enjoying the sunshine! 😂
Thanks Jag! You’ve been a great source of inspiration. Especially since you’re in the valley too. Now I can follow your advice on what I can plant and when. You are a great teacher. I love grow the cool season garden. God bless you and your family.
Thank You Jag. You really make it shot & hit the nail right on the head. Thanks.
haha, I live in the balcony, and my plants take the bedroom! Absolute love short video, no time for some ppl's on and on and on ;-)
Thank you so much Jag , I learned a lot from you
Thank you for the advice! I just won some amazing grow lights, but have leggy seedlings from before I got them. Hoping to implement these tricks to keep them from getting too top-heavy. Love the blooper!
Thank You Jag for Your advise.
I love the blooper and that you got such a good kick out of yourself it was funny.
I do use grow lights because I live in the very snowy mountains and we can't always get our seeds out into the sun. I drape an unfolded mylar survival blanket over the trays to reflect back the light. On days when I can get the seeds out into the sun, I do it!
Very nice video!!! Thank you for the information.
Great info as always thank you
I live in zone 5a, so most of the weeks my seedlings are growing it's too cold outside and we usually get a snow storm at the end of May. I use the $20 led Hyper Tough shop lights from Walmart with 6500 Kelvin. Works great.
Thanks for your info
I did winter sowing with some of my seeds this year (Bachelor Buttons, Lavender, poppies and cold hardy leafy greens) and they have produced really healthy seedlings. I live in a zone 5B.
First thanks for giving us precious advice about plants. I'm a new gardener and learning many tips from you. I live in France USDA zone 8a. i failed all my seedlings this year like chilli, aubergine and red, yellow and green pepper. Seedlings sprouted but with long stem as they search for light may be. I put them on heat mat with LED light about 6500 lumins about a foot on top for 12 hours every night since 1 month and i spray water on them when soil seems dry. Dont know where was the mistake they all failed and lost too much energy and time. But now sow again to see what happened i know its very late but i want too learn. That time i do little changes i put them on heat mat to sprout the seed and then on room temperature under Led light. I am also keeping them on west side window sill all over the day and giving some air then move under Led light in night. (As i dont have south facing window or green house and in garden is too cold for them.. last frost date will be 13 may.). Please must give us information about leggy seedlings failure mistake. Should i can water them or fertilize them or doing something wrong why they burn why my soil becomes too dry and hard if i sprayed them every day ? Is this soil i used need to through away and use another new one or i can keep it with some water it still works for another batch ? if you have same conditions as mine what you do we should learn this too. Thanks for your efforts and have a nice season.
Thank you!! I’m going to try the aluminum foil way this season!
Great video
Thank you
Your my go to source when I need gardening help. Thank you
And Thank you for your support!
Jack, thanks for your great 👍 tutorials about that now I have an indoor pineapple plant with a🍍
Just found your channel and i like how u keep it sweet and short lol I'm pretty sure it's the other way around but no big deal
Your videos are great thank you
Glad you like them!
I’m a novice and my seedlings are already leggy. I didn’t know that was bad until today. Can I repot them and bury the stem deeper to kind of ‘start over’ like tomatoes? I have green beans, zucchini and squash. my green beans are at least seven or 8 inches tall and look like they’re gonna need some support already.
You know I had forgotten about using aluminum foil to bring in the sunlight thanks jag.😊😊😊
No South Window in my house, and the tree line blocks the Sun during Winter. Grow Lights a must indoors, over 10,000 Lumens worth.
nice video! what brand is the light? i read that PAR value of a light is more important than Lumens for plants but I cannot find any light that lists its PAR value. is it safe to assume that a light like the one you showed would have the right PAR value?
and is 1800 lumens okay?
Thank you very much for the information, I just have One question... What do you do If there isn't enough sunlight? Because the weather can be Cloudy or Rainy in marche where I live ...
Jag,
I have a lemon bush that has remained at the same height of six (6) inches for over six (6) months, any tips and how to get it to grow?
Papa Mike ( Keller, Texas )
I have my seedlings by the window as well as a grow light that is too high above. My "supplemental" light idea didn't work too well lol...
The biggest issues for me at least is trying to grow the seedlings too early on when the weather and sun intensity is not high enough. Ordinary lamp didn't work me, tried with regular LED lamp. The commercial lamps use a specific light wave length that is only what the plants needs, unlike the regular lamps meant for humans eyes. If you can find a LED lamps or diodes with the correct wave of light, you can perhaps build some DIY solution for cheaper.
Okay so I'm new to growing and I'm experiencing this and I'm so sad! The weather has not. Even on my side! Does the outside temperature matter?
How soon after sprouting can I put them outside? Most guides say when they have one or two sets of true leaves but my seedlings are very leggy and don't have any true leaves even after weeks. I'm definitely doing something wrong!
👍
Hey Jag,when do you move the seedling from under the light?thank you.
Right after they are 1 inch tall.
@Daisy Creek Farms with Jag Singh thank you for your prompt response have a wonderful day.
The aluminum foil is a genius idea. I use mirror, it works too
How about us in ny in February- march
Yeah! Computer fans cost almost nothing to run and for the power it uses it's probable 20x better than the same wattage light for keeping plants strong.
Jag I always have problems with my eggplant seedlings, they germinate well but they remain leggy and most died , any advise
They need heat and light, if you get sunlight, bring them out during the day otherise use a shop light just 1ft above the seedlings
Here
I appreciate the shorter videos. So many gardening channels have 12 to 20+ minute videos, when in reality the information could be condensed to a quarter of that.
Glad you like the video!
What state in Aus are you ?
I am in California, US
NorCal
Ur so cute 😊
There is no way those seedlings are getting enough light by a window. Even in the video they are in shade. Anyone who has tried knows window sill growing frequently leads to leggy growth. The reflectors might work for the plants in direct sunlight, but not those on the other shelves.
i have to start giving this channel some more energy this video is insightful, nuanced and short!🪴🪴🔥🔥👌👍👍
I appreciate that :) It's hard work making quality videos
