My name is Dakota Bear - I'm an Indigenous hip-hop artist from the northern side of the medicine line on Turtle Island also known as Canada. As Indigenous Peoples we face some of the worst impacts of climate change, our communities have been on the frontline of climate actions. I'm also a public speaker and I spread the truth in any way that I can. Autumn Peltier a young water protector has been on the frontlines and speaking on this. I've captured hope and positivity through some climate actions, and you can watch some beautiful moments unfold in my music video titled Freedom, which features land defenders/water protectors. We're stronger together - the people are standing together there's power in numbers.

A most excellent presentation, Autumn! Whether or not enough people will LISTEN, ugh, I'd prefer to not think about that. Continue with your excellent work. I wish you success in these efforts for a healthy environment. Yes, and it's very sad, but we've been increasinly destroying this planet, our planet, ... for many decades now. I know about toxic pollution, have known of it since childhood and am now 62 1/2 for age, and that damn pollution was always a major thorn in my life. I like fishing, but Ilike consuming some of the catch, the rest all being catch & release, but where? For just C&R, no problem, but for consumption, we have a real problem. Either way, WE need to clean up the natural environment; for ourselves, sure, but most definitely for the young and future generations. I'll leave at this for now, hoping to not be censored; but, I wish you well. God Bless! Take care.

No intended shade here but could someone please help me understand a little better? She is emphasizing the importance of water, especially to her and her culture. Her proposed solution is for everyone to go back to the original way of survival in untamed nature, which sounds good to me personally, but that doesn’t seem very plausible considering how many people are now accustomed to the convinces of technology modern science. Also, with inevitable population growth in an already overly populated earth, wouldn’t it be impossible since there aren’t enough resources and space for everyone to provide for their individual self. That means people have to grow/hunt their own food, create their own clothing, and provide their own shelter. With the sociological perspective of functionalism we can observe that when the size of societies increase, people become specialized in the trade of specific goods and services, and the flow these goods and services is economy. I’m really not trying to start any arguments here I just feel like I’m missing something or misinterpreting.

We all should protect the air, water and land from pollution.
Why should polluters get away with making money while destroying our common environment.
Individuals, politicians and corporations all need to do more to protect the planet and lead on reducing the Climate Crisis. We all can and should do more. Why do fossil fuel companies have the right to pollute the air, land and water. It is time to get active in your community. Speak up for the planet and future generations. If not now then when. If not you then who.

Thanks so much, Autumn which is why you could talk with Greta, and simply look its been going on in your lifetime, and Greta has told Trudeau how dare you, that's right, you can't eat oil. They had pipe's in White Rock replaced, and the Chlorination of city water, in combination with aging pipes, had led to complaints of discoloured water and higher-than-usual concentrations of naturally-occurring arsenic and manganese in city water prior to the building of the new treatment These issues aren't just in Ontario, they are in other parts of Canada as well.I moved before the fallout had came out. Grateful you spoke up.

She expressed her concerned, views, facts about the crisis and ways to find a solution and you're clinging to a minor point about spiritual belief? You have nothing else to argue do you? I'm Pagan and I can tell you that water and earth are traditionally seen as feminine energy elements while air and fire are masculine. There's no feminist agenda, it's the belief in balance. The moon is also female while the sun is male in many traditions. Religious views are not the point, the fact our water is polluted, people are suffering, and we have ways to solve it are what matters, not what a specific spiritual path views as "masculine" or "feminine" energy.

She is speaking from her ancient Anishinaabe tribal culture in which women have special connections and duties for teaching about the water. Men also have sacred duties and gifts, but for many indigenous cultures it is more about balance and working together than one dominating the other. In many tribal societies women always had extensive rights, such as owning the houses and fields or participating in government.
It is simply a completely different culture, whose lands we immigrants settled on. It is also completely different from European feminism, although there is evidence some of the early American feminists did gain inspiration from long-standing matriarchal indigenous communities like the Seneca and Six Nations.

Hey herb jerk this is a way of life for these people. They have always respected the water. Unlike in the city when you look anywhere in a waterway you can barely even see the water at times because it is littered with garbage or is just too dirty to see the bottom. As for money. If you had any idea of those people's history which you obviously do not, you would know why. This country was never defeated by means of war but a bunch of lies on paper called a treaty or treaties. This country was stolen. But...you'll never get it. Your just a herb JERK.
