Hate to break it to you but FF7 isn't actually about climate change. It's about how quickly things can spiral out of control as you are worried about other things. Shinra isn't even completely evil they do some vile shit but they end up trying to save the world several times throughout the story even taking down the barrier so you fight Sephiroth in the final confrontation. Burning the mako is bad but by the end it is the least of their problems. The heros also admit they aren't trying to save the planet they are trying to save the people and places they love. If anything it's about tradition verses the wants of the technological elite.
