Thank you for this in-depth video full of information that has helped me understand the fabric production…..I am going to be a lot more informed now when making fabric purchases! 😊
Thank you for such a very informative and eye opening video. We also need to be more conscious about the amount of fabric that is stashed away in cupboards for years that we fall out of love with.
Nicely done! Thank you for this important information and putting it all together in a nice coherent presentation! I love Sew Me Sunshine UA-cam videos because it always keeps me up with fashion. However, with this video, now I am updated on how we can make our world at better world. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this, incredibly comprehensive. I think the sewing community really needs to start taking responsibility. We tend to encourage the massive fabric haul approach, rather than choosing less fabric but of a better sustainable quality. Stashing fabric is just not good for the environment whatever type it is and even worse when we chase cheap material which may seem like a bargain but at the price of the planet. Thanks for emphasising that we should only buy nylon and also poly fabrics which are recycled.
Great presentation- very informative. Thank you for pulling all this together. It’s really useful to have all these different sustainability labels explained combined with such a comprehensive overview of the different environmental and ethical issues related to fabric manufacturing.
A really helpful breakdown of different fabrics and how sustainable they are compared to each other. I also found the explanation around the different certifications super-helpful too.
Thank you Harriet for such an interesting & informative video, it has made it a lot more clear on fabric choices to make home sewing more sustainably friendly. It has certainly opened my eyes to production of fabrics which I thought were natural in the manufacturing process. Loved the topic x
This was a great video! I’ll be going back to it for a refresher to remind me of the information. Do eco brands and certifications vary around the world? I’m in Australia so just wondering.
WOW… that was fantastic thank you so much for imparting so much valuable information and food for thought. I have become more aware of the issues around the production of fabric and have made some changes to the purchase of fabric but now realise I have more to do, so thanks again for taking the time to highlight the issues 👍🥰
Thank you for providing this detailed overview, Harriet. Silk is actually one of the most environmentally destructive fabrics, according to the Higg Material Sustainability Index Score. In addition to avoiding synthetic fibers, fibers made from animal products should also be avoided. Wool, leather, and fur drive biodiversity loss and climate change while harming workers, animals, and local ecosystems. Animal materials are often treated with chemicals to prevent them from decomposing, which means they do not degrade fast but last for many years.
What an informative vlog. Thank you so much for dispelling so many myths and putting the facts out there.
Thank you Hariet for such an interesting, informative video. Certainly food for thought!

Sometimes, but the main one like GOTS / Tencel / Lenzing are worldwide certifications :)
