That was a match. Both Snake and Smug did their best and surprised everyone. What stood out to me was at the end of the match, both respectfully shook hands, brought It in and kept it clean. personally that's how I brought myself to be, win or lose be respectful, shake hands and cheer on. Of course with the occasional runback with a couple of more buddies, some drinks and tips on how to play better.
Smug has REALLY leveled up since Evo has passed. Players he would have been free to at one point he nw has to make work super hard. This is a favorable match up for Gief due how he can shut down Dudley's rushdown with little effort and even has the high life and high stun meter to survive Dudley's big damage which come as major risks against Gief to start in the first place. But even then, he gave nothing to Snake Eyez for free, it came down to the last game and it was anyone's game. Amazing set.
So now I see. If Smug loses, it wasn't that it was a close match and Snake Eyes got one over on him, it's that Gief is broken and top tier and grapplers suck anyway. Hmm. At the risk of generalizing about a whole group of people, I'll say that I'm not surprised that these are Smug fans...
every time smug loses fanboys always shout bad match up example vs ccg air vs xian vs tokido vs momochi and this to these fanboys they think dudley is bottom tier and they think dudley has no good match ups
This game shouldn't have so much combo damage reduction and Zangief pile driver has way too much range. Zangief backdashes avoids the grab and then can reach him for the pile driver that's not right. Every command grab in this game should have the range of the normal throw.
You know how shit grapplers would be if that were the case? That means you have to risk being thrown yourself to land any of your command grabs. None of Zangief's command grabs have throw invincibility, there's a mere 1 frame difference between a normal throw and SPD, and you can do a normal throw (1-2 button presses) much faster than a 360+P motion. That means Zangief's grabs would get beat out a lot. It would completely fuck him over.
I feel dumber for having read this. There is no way in hell command grabs from grapplers should have normal throw range. That would fuck every grappler completely over.
match is actually 5-5; hit advantage and risk reward is in dudleys favor, he can do all kinds of dumb buttons from a safe distance as well [such as cr hk that was exhibited here] whereas what makes gief scary [and without ultra 2 its even easier to jump away from] is his SPD which is easily and strongly punished from a considerable distance [kidney blow full combo/whatever]

i don't know snake eyez personally, all i know is that i absolutely despise the character he plays. i dont care if he has it refined to a science and an art, i dont like zangeif's or their players by proxy
Snake Eyez is an amazing player. But I don't think ANY sf player sees Gief at the character select screen and thinks "Yeah, this'll be a fun match". Every match vs Gief is such an annoying grindfest with so many characters...
No one really likes playing against Zangief. I main him, and I don't like playing against him. That said, he's really easy to keep out, and his gimmicks are really easy to counter. Only bad players who suck at the game think he's a problem.
That Smug Duds is nasty. He really did make that match look way better than what it actually is for Dudley.
