Beetlejuice is an animated television series that ran from September 9, 1989 to October 26, 1991 on ABC, and on Fox from September 9, 1991 to December 6, 1991.
Loosely based on the American 1988 film of the same name, it mostly followed the friendship between Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz.
Beetlejuice was a breakout hit, like the film it was inspired by, surpassing expectations to become one of the most popular cartoons during the time it aired.

When I saw the title, I was hoping that something would happen when his name was mentioned for the third time. Not only was I not disappointed, I legitimately laughed/cheered out loud and my co-workers realized I was not doing my work.
It was worth it.
Honestly it just shows how much dedication goes into every episode, tot he point they can just throw this in at the edit, at the cost of doing half of the takes in costume. There's a BIT more work but I dont' imagine that much more work.
I was always impressed that they managed to change beetlejuice into the hero (ish) of the animated series. So much so that people growing up with it tend to forget that Beetlejuice is the villain in the movie.

Yup - any true 90s kid watched the animated series 1st and many of us didn't even realize the show was based off a movie. When I finally rented the movie as a teenager I remember being a little surprised that aside from superficial similarities the TV show and the movie were very much their own thing.

We have some animation cells from this kicking around because my father in law worked with Nelvana. He was friends with some of the folks working on things and here in Canada the show played FOREVER because it technically counted as Cancon.

Doomie is legitimately one of the all time greatest "car" characters in media, and NEVER gets talked about! He's a fifties ride, he flies, he's a car that thinks he's a dog that thinks he's a human, he communicates through car noises done analogue by one guy, a few hand held noisemakers, and a little voice talent-- he's even got the jekyll and hyde personality angle-- AND NOBODY EVER MENTIONS HIM! His theme is cool as hell, his origin is a parody of Frankenstein-- WHAT IS THE DEAL!?
I watched Beetlejuice: The Animated Series, religiously, as a young child, who was just starting school. I still love the series, as well the iconic film. I'd LOVE to see a sequel!!
Let's just leave it good and not give Hollywood any bright ideas. It could be awful. *Cough Ghostbusters cough*

I think the series Stranger Things comes pretty close to being what I would expect a Beetlejuice sequel would be. The people in charge of that show might make a good sequel to Beetlejuice.

I could not get enough of Beetlejuice & Addams Family in the 90s. Their cartoon series were both too short-lived.

Addams family was definitely much more short-lived. I can't remember if it predated the movies (though my guess would be it came out definitely after the first one and maybe before the second one) I remember it was on ABC and I don't remember seeing very much of it maybe a single season of a couple episodes. But it was a fun little show and really well animated and I liked the character designs.
BJ had around 109 episodes, Addams cartoon only had 21
The Tales from the Cryptkeeper cartoon was also great and on par with those series as well.
The fact that they filmed this twice and stuck to the edits every third Beetlejuice earns a sub. 👏👏👏 Well done!

Making Lydia and Beetlejuice friends in the cartoon was such a good call, I definitely wanted a gross and chaotic supernatural best friend when I was a lil girl haha. Loved that cartoon.
Yeah the series seemed way more Drop Dead Fred in nature, especially compared to the movie.

Man, it took me a few times to really recognize the artistry in those transitions. First couple times I was like "oh wow that's neat he's wearing a Beetlejuice costume", but once I noticed the whole transition mid sentence without skipping a beat or sounding like a cut, AND following through with hand gestures perfectly, I was really impressed.
Props, no doubt those must have been a real *nightmare* to film (heh).
I've met Alyson court before, she's a good friend with my Auntie over in the Cayman Islands, I've even got an autographed "Post-Card" of her character Lydia from the cartoon!
She was one of my first childhood crushes on the big comfy couch, thank goodness that didn't leave any weird fetishes. But holy cow I never realized all her voice work, she was Jubilee ok X-Men!

Loved this show when I was a kid, it was actually surprisingly high-brow (in between the fart jokes), with entire episodes based on Roman history, the life and works of Edger Allan Poe, multiple Shakespearean episodes, etc.
I think Hazbin Hotel is the closest we're ever going to get in spirit to a new Beetlejuice animated series.
I can barely remember it, but have this feeling that it got really clever from the second season on? I need to re-watch some!

The detail to have him seamlessly change and keep the same pose, even in movement is quite impressive. Actual Quality!

@@OtakuUnitedStudio It wasn't fun back then with certain lines....Beetlejuice was one of those toy lines that had 10,000 versions of Beetlejuice and that was about it for the 1 year Kenner produced it. Just like the Batman line that Kenner screwed with 10,000 variations of Batman....
Toys aren't fun now for some because they don't make toys with the 40 year old in mind, they make them for children to play with, not adults to display and horde....I can't count the number of toys that 40 year old idiot neckbeards ruined for my own kid, in their need to horde "cause one day they might be valuable".

Beetlejuice would be an awesome friend. Except I don't think I could stomach his terrible hygiene. I mean would you want to hang around someone who revels in having horrible body odor, bad breath, rotten teeth, head lice, fleas, etc?

Beetlebones, the Rappin' Raven, the appearances by dead historical figures, the Robin Hood episode, the Wilderness Girls... so many great episodes that I still remember to this day.

The "BeetleDan" persona is quite appropriate for this time of year.
I loved the show as a kid. The cowboy neighbor always said, "what in tarhootie!" People used to ask me where I got that from.
"And that is why I won't do two shows a night"; Great use of the quote to reference they shot this twice swap between Dan and Beetlejuice-Dan every tree times he says the magic words.
Fun fact: Beetlejuice’s voice actor voiced a character on an episode of “Tales from the Cryptkeeper”.

What dedication it must take to do those transitions, I'm sure it was more than just recording the same thing twice too, what with reshooting for either being off cue or some line flubs and making sure it all syncs together when editing. Great job guys, a lot of hard work for such a minor detail that most other channels wouldn't have been able to pull off nearly as well.
A Hell of an episode, love the set and costume change. I have a fond memory of the movie and show so it's just a win but damn that swear was dope! Good on ya Dan!

This was one of the first cartoons I watched that I saw CGI in. The show had a Neither commercial that would pop up every episode w/ a skeleton guy.
And then the ABC Saturday Morning lineup drops a gem on us 80's/90's kids with REBOOT, the first CGI series to last more than 1 season. I had to stipulate the 1 season part due to CRASH TEST DUMMIES being CGI, too!
Very impressed with the commitment to the bit, and hats off to your editor. The transitions were flawless. Awesome episode.

the 'beetlejuice three times' gag, so great! I do remember the movie and kinda digging the cartoon. don't think I got into any of the toys. I know there was a videogame but I didn't really play it til somewhat recently... yeah it was about as bad as you might expect from a movie license tie-in. great videos as always! fun to revisit shows from my childhood!

I didn’t realize the first time I watched this that every time he says “Beetlejuice” 3 times he turns into him, and when he says it 3 more, he changes back. Nice touch.
Saw the thumbnail and thought, "I remember that!"
Then I remembered I was actually thinking about Bobby's world.
Being a fan of The Real Ghostbusters I gravitated toward this show as well despite being in my teens. It was a fun show to say the least.

Dear God the amount of effort they had to be put into filming the episode twice once normal and once in the beetle juice get up and then keep count of every time he said beetle juice so it changed had to be ridiculous. My hat is off to you for the production value on this.
As a kid, I was a huge fan of Beetlejuice, the movie and the cartoon. This is one of the most unique cartoons ever made is nothing like it.
There are so many moments from this show live in my memory. The show didn’t compromise it’s content and truly created something unique and memorable.
I fondly remember this cartoon as never having a set air time (at least in Australia), it would just appear on TV randomly. It always made it feel mysterious!
10:46 Is one of my favorite lines ever delivered in a movie. Keaton's yell in that scene is pure perfection and I laugh out-loud every time I hear it.

In a silly, fun movie full of quick wit (some of the stuff Keaton utters, nearly under his breath, is hilarious); the BEST line/scene, to me, was the scene that you mention, and Dan quote's. His anger, and outright appalled tone of his voice, and the punctuation of, "Nice fu+kin' model!" by grabbing his junk, with the honking noise 👌🏻 😆🤣 also, make's me laugh every time ("...the Exorcist keep's getting funnier, every time I see it!...").
Significant, given that I've seen it... at least 20 time's, and probably more.

The show was ok, but my strongest memory was having an Art teacher in Jr. High in 1990 have us watch episodes of this show in class as inspiration for abstract art projects 😂.
There are far worse ways the teacher could have done that. At least using this cartoon was a bit more entertaining than looking at books or slides of still pictures.

Fun fact: I actually saw the animated series first as a kid before I even knew the movie existed. lol. I used to watch reruns of this show all of the time after school when it was on Nickelodeon in the 90s. I love both the movie and the cartoon. The cartoon was just doing its own thing. It's too bad the Maitlands never got to appear in the cartoon in some shape and form. Good video!

To all my fellow BEETLEJUICE fans, both film and cartoon versions, this urban legend is for you. Having attended middle school by the time the film and cartoons first premiered, we NYC kids had fun making up stories connected to pop culture figures. One popular theory that always stood with me was the origin of Beetlejuice. Apparently, Beetlejuice was an Italian blue collar worker from Brooklyn making ends meet by working as a cabbie. His preference was the Time Square district. During his time, the sin of prostitution was well established at The Duece. And dear old Beetlejuice was a willing John shelling out some dough for a good time. Unfortunately, one night of pleasure led to eternal damnation as BJ ends up getting shot to death by a pimp. A little much, you say? Check out the film. His first appearance wearing the raincoat and cabbie's hat. His reaction to the House of Sin inside the town model. BJ telling the Maitland couple his love for Italian food. Not hard to piece together his backstory if you look carefully!
Thumbs up for COMMITTING to the 3 Beetlejuice transformations. I ACTUALLY counted [I know, my life huh...] I think I may have miscounted, because there was a transformation after only 2? Meanwhile, the makers of the Police Academy cartoon did all they could to avoid any similarity to movie Zed - which seemed to be a thing with cartoon versions of movies at the time (as mentioned by Dan in the Ghostbusters episode).
I loved the movie and the show equally for different reasons. I definitely prefer the less villainous version of Beetlejuice presented in the show. But I was sad that the Maitlands weren't in it.
Had the Maitlands been in the series, they could have been Deetz very own 'Fairy Godparents' before that became a series too.

It's kinda incredible to me that Kenner "or anyone else" Never made Beetlejuice Animated Series Toys. i mean, it was literally BEGGING For them!
I loved that series so much as a kid. Something about it was just so fun. One of my first memories of the show was watching a clip with my dad on a Friday night. This was back when ABC would use one of the their Friday night sitcoms to premiere the new Saturday morning lineup. It's amazing that they made a show so different from the movie but so good. I imagine Tim Burton's involvement probably helped keep it on track to what it should be. One moment I still remember that if I'm remembering it right shows how great the writing really was. When Beetlejuice takes Lidia on a vacation to visit the family farm she meets his Auntie Em. Only Auntie Em happened to be an anthropomorphic cow. Lidia points out, "She's your aunt? But she's a cow!" Beetlejuice just kind of shrugs and says, "Yeah well, she's a cow...It's the Neitherworld." And just leave it at that. A great way of the writers saying, "Yeah this world doesn't really make sense, just roll with it."
That is a really cool (and obvious, in retrospect) connection between the action figures and the Real Ghostbusters line! Dan, my projected toy budget always takes a hammering when you release great content like this! 😅😅 Thanks always.

Love this cartoon! I watched reruns on Nickelodeon back in the 90's. I have the Complete Series DVD that I bought in 2018 & was a great purchase indeed. Easily one of the best cartoons I've watched in my lifetime.
The things that I remember the most about this cartoon:
-The look of the sandworms
- MÚSICA AXILAR, ES ESPECTACULAR, TE METE EN LÍOS, Y CAUSA MUCHO FRÍO!
Can we take a second to appreciate that this most likely had to be filmed twice, in and out of costume, and then seamlessly edited together.

I distinctly recall hating this cartoon as a kid, but as an adult, I look back on it fondly. Nostalgia is weird like that.
I am so happy that someone out there remembers this and does a review, I am a HUGE fan of this show and hv been since age 2 and watched it religiously along with Mighty Max and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
As a side note, the spanish latino dub was very good and respectful to the original voices.

Now that ive seen some of Tim Burtons art, it really does seem like they based some of the characters on his art style. (I remember not liking the art as a kid compared to the real ghostbusters)
This has got to be one of the best pieces of content ever uploaded to this platform. Not only is it thorough and well paced, but the creativity and commitment to changing seamlessly whenever BeetleJuice is said on the 3rd time is absolutely fantastic. Truly, what an achievement. Taking a simple "The History Of..." video and turning it into something of pure enjoyable entertainment and an exercise of how to do something completely different than everyone else is doing. Bravo. Just Bravo.

Was a huge fan of the show: even loved the lost episodes that were aired on Fox Kids towards the end of the run.
I watched the cartoon before seeing the movie, so of course I was in for a mood whiplash. I'd like to mention that I've seen exactly two Lydia cosplayers in the last few years.
Also, Allison was the voice actor for Jill Valentine in the original Resident Evil.

I still watch Beetlejuice cartoon since 1989 & I'm 42 years old now. I was 8 years old when I was the Beetlejuice movie & still a fan of the to this day after watching it close to 100 times.
The computer game is legitimately good, simple arcade action, which is a surprise given Hi Tech Expression's usually terrible output. They're best known for the infamously awful Mega Man "port."
I've heard about the Beetlejuice animated series but I never was truly interested in it...

As soon as I saw this in my feed I went, "Okay, what joke is gonna happen when Dan says Beetlejuice's name three times?" Didn't realize you were gonna keep the joke up until the end. You had to of done the review two times pre-and-post makeup/set dress to do this. The transitions had to suck to edit.

I got a 20th anniversary DVD edition of the movie that had like 2 or 3 episodes of the animated series. I loved the bits of the animated show that looked like paper cutouts or claymation as a kid, they were absolutely fascinating.
I don't usually comment but the Beetlejuice gag was so perfectly done I want you to know it's things like this that keep me watching all your videos please don't ever doubt yourselves over at toy galaxy as long as you keep doing it with all this love for the content you cover/create
Beetlejuice actually made puns fun before early dubbed anime ruined them.
I hate that Jeffery Jones is in so many good movies. Even after he was arrested and convicted he was still being cast in movies. That should not have been happening.
