This is Episode 1 of Switzerland Travel Series, we travelled by train TGV Lyria from Paris to Zurich. We also discussed about Swiss Travel Pass, our Hotel stay in Zurich and it's cost.

Hello Nilesh, nice & informative video. One question when you take direct train from Paris Gare de Lyon to Zurich then why to change the train from Mullhouse & Basel ? Kindly reply i am traveling this December
Hi Shefali,
1st break is at Mulhouse because it is the last train station of France near Swiss border. There are no direct trains from Mulhouse to Zurich and the station Basel is the entry point to Switzerland. You will get the Swiss train from Basel. If you purchase a train ticket from Paris to Zurich then it is all covered and all the train change will be mentioned in ticket.

There is a digital map at the tram station, it is outside of Zurich HB. Or you can search you destination on google maps and you’ll get the tram number.

The transfer time was 24 mins and this is enough.
It hardly takes 5 mins to switch the platforms.

What’s the advantage of Swiss travel pass .. it’s possible to manage without taking it .. can we use this for all local transportation such as train , tram or bus ??
Hi Sameer,
You can travel hassle free in Switzerland if you have Swiss Travel pass. You can use it in all the public transaport bus, tram, train, cruise, museums, discounted rates at attractions etc.
If you are planning to travel several cities in Switzerland then it’s good to go with Swiss Travel Pass.
You don’t have to book anything, just board and show swiss travel pass and travel.

Wht about flixbus that operates from paris to swiss? Is it gud??
Flixbus is a good option, it will be cheaper than train sometime but it takes around 10-11 hours. There are some night buses and early morning as well.

Hi,
We did not purchase a sim card in Europe, we used the same sim card which we were using in the UK.
If you are travelling from India then you can purchase one sim and use across Europe. EE, Vodafone, Lebara are good, or you can buy any other sim from store.

Hi,TGV LYRIA is joint venture between France’s SNCF and Switzerland’s SBB. TGV LYRIA is the fastest train operated.
SNCF is France’s National Rail network and SBB is Switzerland’s.
Swiss Travel Pass works in SBB trains only.

I will be on an event in Switzerland and I have the schengen visa of Switzerland, but I was thinking to go to France and catch a flight from there to return to my country. It's possible if I showed a return flight from Switzerland in the visa interview? There is control in the border between Switzerland and France? Do I need to explain this in the airport if I take a flight from Paris?

Yes, you can catch a flight from Paris to your home country.
There is no border control between Switzerland and Paris, you can travel by Bus, Train or drive.
You can always change your plan when you are in the schengen area, it’s not mandatory to stick to the plan submitted during visa interview.

We booked tickets from www.thetrainline.com, we use the same website to book tickets in the UK as well.
You can save some money if you book early morning train tickets say around 6.30-8am.
If you have Swiss travel pass then no need to purchase ticket all the way from Paris to Switzerland. You can book ticket from Paris to Mulhouse or Basel.

If you are getting schengen visa then no need to show the internal transfer tickets. Visa office mainly ask for International transfer, accommodation.
You can book train from therrainline.com and the tickets are mostly non-refundable.

No, One needs to purchase ticket from Paris to Basel, Basel is a city in Switzerland and from here onwards one can use Swiss Travel Pass.
Ticket price varies between 65€-100€. If you book early you will get a cheaper ticket.

You can directly book a train from Paris to Switzerland, it will have a break journey tickets. It will be like If you book from Paris to Zurich then you will get tickets from Paris to Mulhouse then Mulhouse to Basel and then Basel to Zurich.

No, SCHENGEN visa gives access to 26 countries which covers France and Switzerland along with other 24 European countries. It’s one visa for all the 26 countries.

yes, the fare starts from 25-30 euros. Ticket prices are high in summer time and you will get tickets around 100 euros. The train tickets are like flight tickets, they keep fluctuating. We booked out tickets from thetrainline.com.

Yes, you can plan that way and it’s possible to budget Swiss trip within 3 lacs. Please plan ahead and you will get cheap travel tickets, get Swiss travel pass if you want to travel within Swiss a lot, book BnB where you will get family house, plan eating out cautiously because food in Swiss is expensive.

Prices differ karti hai seasons ke hisab se 8-15k lagte hai aur baki agar aapko Switzerland me ghumne ka ya phir India to Switzerland ka kharcha janna hai to apne channel pe video hai woh dekh sakte hai.
