Question for someone in the business out there.... I had a professional service come out to vacuum our old attic. The insulation was blown in and made up of some ground up newspaper material. The professional's equipment looked new and very clean.... he has a nice operation. However, once he started vacuuming the attic, the large white bags filled up and kicked out significant amounts of dust.... enough to make it snow particulate for a couple of houses down the block. Is this normal to have this much dust and particulate escape the bags? TIA!
It sounds like you're referring to cellulose insulation, which is notoriously dusty.
Just started doing insulation for about 2 months and I love it. Never actually removed old insulation though

It’s about $600 just to clean remove in Chicago.
1000 sqft attic with R-15 fiberglass and a steep roof (more than 7:12 pitch) is around $1000 or more. 1000 sqft attic with R-30 cellulose and a shallow roof (less than 5:12 pitch) is around $2000 or more. The type and amount of insulation are considered, the geometry of the attic is considered. The sq ft of the attic is also considered. If there is a lot of mouse poop and/or other debris, the cost goes up and also hepa vac and subsequent sanitizing of the space may be added for additional cost. After insulation is removed, you have a great opportunity to fully inspect the attic space and perform any maintenance and repairs that are required, which can add to the cost. There are many variables to consider.
