Instead of a 1k resistor, I would recommend adding a 50k or 100k potentiometer so that you can adjust according to the room lighting.

At beginning I said it doesn't work,
But now am saying it's work, the led will be high at beginning because the LDR is fasing what can be considered low light according to it size. Try different sizes of LDR and you will figure it out.

You should be able to swap that out with out any issues. Just check the Datasheets, make sure you match up the pins.

It's named pond, it's used for tinning machine, i don't recommend to use scotch tape. I recommend to use the tinning machine
