This problem doesn't even require all the math. Given the bearing you know that the point PI is south and west of the point PC. Of the choices given answer B is the only answer that meets this criteria. Or am I missing something?

Not sure who will stumble across this, but the correct answer is B. The curve is moving West and South, so the delta(x) should be added since we are dealing in Northing and Westing. Additionally, to save yourself time on the actual exam, this question can be answered without numbers if you know the direction the curve is pointing. Happy Studying!

such a good series of pe exam questions. Too bad the sound is of poor quality. Thanks for all the tips! I do intend on purchasing the practice exams!!

The 43.5 angle and I/2 should add up to 90 degrees but it does NOT! The given degree is wrong and is not necessary.

Hi. I was wondering why the X is subtracted from the original westerling coordinate. Shouldnt we add X since PI is more west than PC?

Civil Engineering Academy Yes that makes sense but since the coordinate is to the west then isn't it essentially a negative X coordinate so yes we subtract but we would be subtracting a negative essentially which would result in a greater negative number or greater valued westing coordinate shouldn't it?

I fixed the problem. Thanks for the catch. I don't know what I was thinking.

+Civil Engineering Academy Im confused.. It seems like you had it right the first time. The question is asking for a coordinate and with the given bearing of the tangent you can tell that the x and y location of the PI will be lower and to the left of the PC. To get your revised solution the bearing would have to have been to the east which would result in a larger x coordinate??

you are 100% correct, This is very confusing. They shouldn't revise it. It was correct the first time

I believe since the problem is Northing and WESTING, then you are assuming that your origin is to the right of the given point. Therefore, you would add to the x-coordinate because it is getting farther away from your origin. I believe the correct answer is B.

Love these videos. However this is the incorrect solution. B is the correct answer. Since the PC x coordinate is a westing, the SW bearing pushes it further west. So you’d add the 233.86 to the 1034.32, not subtract.

Why do you add the westerling to get the final coordinates of PI (I don't understand)? What are the rules to adding and subjecting (northing and westerling) from coordinate points? I understand the subtraction of the northing, because PI is south of PC, right? Thank you,

Hi Civil Engineering Academy,Please explain the X and Y components. My understanding is that….Sin 43.5degree =Y/339.75 which yields that Y =233.87 and the Cos 43.5degree = X/339.87 which yields that X=246.45. Is it possible that these values are inverted on this video? Please explain what I am missing????
