    Getting rid of the draft will be the beginning of the end. The wnba already have a cap/roster problem with teams like the aces boasting 4 olympic players. Theyve just now got eyes on the league and they cant help but find ways to fuck it up.

    If the PA succeeded and got rid of the draft it would be the end of the WNBA. The Have Nots owners would sell or shut down their franchise. It would give their franchise very little value versus the Haves. These damn players do not want to play on a even playing field. They mostly went to UCONN, South Carolina, Tennessee, LSU and Notre Dame. They want to share Championship in the pros as they did in college. Damn Iowa and all the other colleges that are not in their clique.

    The draft is what keeps the rich from getting richer and the poor from getting poorer. If the draft is abolished, all the teams in poor locations and with bad records will fold. Up to the WNBA if they want to try it. If Paige gets drafted and refuses to play for Dallas, what will she do if they do not trade the rights?
    People will want to go to New York or Los Angeles for media or to the top 3 or 4 teams with the best records. Who would choose to go to a bad team?
    The reason pro sports teams have a draft is to keep all the teams competitive. Who wants to go to a bad team in a poor market? Those teams would fold, one by one. I think that they might try the experiment and maybe a smaller league would be better, though I doubt it.
    By the way, I think Paige to Dallas would be good for both players. Arike would not have to take absurd iso shots and instead could spot up like Mitchell. And Getting easier, clear looks would help her shooting percentage. Page would get a spot up shooter who is not afraid to take the shot and she would get the pass when she was open. It is the same as Clark being good for Mitchell and vice versa.

    If this is true it’s one more nail in the coffin for professional basketball! Michael Jordan was drafted number 3 to a pathetic coked up Chicago Bulls team that so bad it was laughable! In his rookie year he started winning games they weren’t supposed to (like Caitlin and the Fever), and they even went to the playoffs with that garbage team and of we know what happened from there. Suck it up Paige, play for Dallas and see what happens from there. Make it your own!

    I can see the logic behind losing t he draft, but I can also see the reason for it. SO. Lets say they lose the draft. what happens.
    1. College players will go to the winning teams. hands down. there's no moral high ground here, players want to boost their stats, put championships on their records. its what they will do.
    2. The owners of those teams will get a cheaper team because at this stage rookies are only getting 70k so all the talent, no cost or less cost. Even if that salary goes up, it willa lways be relative to the veteran players.
    3. The owners of these teams will capitalize the success with advertising. more money, more wins etc. So effectively the WNBA becomes a competition for what business can spend the most money.
    4. Owners of the losing teams will never be able to get off the ground, so private funding dries up and they collapse.
    So what if the draft stays?
    1. The competition becomes more even keeled.
    2. Players salaries wont be linked to where they play.
    3. Owners will only spend money when their team wins so they can capitalize on the team (they will always do this, its just good business)
    4. Teams will rise and fall constantly.
    SO, whish one is better? obviously the draft is a winner for fledgling teams to keep them competitive. Rookies pay their penance and can then get selected once they are free of their rookie contracts.
    If the draft goes, there must be some kind of balance so half of the teams wont always end up with the best players. The obvious solution here is to adjust the player salary caps for the bottom ranked teams. So, while some rookies will go to the winning sides, they will do that sacrificing the pay. Also some veterans who are on a peak salary with a winning team can earn more by heading down to the lower teams. This way the lower teams have a chance at still being competitive.
    My opinion... Keep the draft.

      The draft is the one good thing about American sports, the worst team that season gets the no1 pick. I mean the NWSL can get rid of the draft and let players and teams work it out because of the sheer amount of top quality soccer players coming out of collage & you can guarantee the NWSL will be keeping a close eye on salary caps. The WNBA have let the aces get away with paying players of the books since they moved to vegas

    This would not be the first time players refuse to go to the team that drafted them. lets look at the NFL. Eli Manning refused to go to to the Chargers even after being drafted. John Elway refused to go to the Colts even after being drafted. Jim Kelly refused to go to the Bills and instead went to play with the Houston Gamblers (USFL) for 2 years. Quality players have some options if they truly hate a destination. With all the other leagues out there for women in other countries the WNBA is on shaky footing.

    • @ads2686
      @ads2686 3 дні тому

      in the NFL if you sit out for a year you can sign for any team you want. Also that year's draft was loaded with top QB's. San diego didn't want to waste their no1 pick on a player who would never play for them. Also the chargers & Giants worked out a deal. Giants got Eli & the chargers got Phillip rivers. Also unlike the NFL the WNBA is owned by the NBA, you think NBA owners would sign off on getting rid of the draft. Paige should suck it up. Peyton manning wanted to play for the colts who had been awful for years, caitlin clark (who last time I checked was a better player than paige wanted to play for the fever a team who had sucked for years. Paige is coming off as a brat.

However if Arike is the main reason for Paige to not land in Dallas, can she ask them to trade her for idk a cardoso + carter ? and keep Satou ?

    Paige will not play for Dallas. She already has more money than 90% of all the players in the WNBA. Why go to a toxic organization with the biggest ball hog on planet earth? Paige doesn't need the pennies Dallas can offer her. It won't hurt Paige in the least not to sign with Dallas, plus the entire draft is changing next year anyway. Paige will either sit out and play for Unrivaled in January of 2026 or the Sparks will work a deal to move up with a trade. It's not about being entitled, it's about having common sense. But, I can almost guarantee Paige will not be in a Wings uniform next season.

    They will never get ride of the draft because after draft then salary cap. Draft and cap makes it where teams can be somewhat equal. I know they don’t care but you would loss most fans and teams would fold. Think having 2-4 super teams with 8 superstars each 80 million salary each team. Tickets gonna be so expensive to pay for this people will stop going to games. Lmao picture all star game type play durning regular season would be a joke. Last year was the first year the league was so hyped and they acting like it been like that for ages. Soccer fans are built different the wnba fans.

    I understand why there is a draft. If the draft was gone it would force the undesirable teams to up their game to get players. Even then, who wants to go play for a bad team with a bad locker room or a bad coach. Paige's situation is unique. After all her injuries she might well want to get on with her career. Of course, in the NIL world things are very different. I only hope she has good people advising her.

  • @LampFan81
    @LampFan81 4 дні тому

    Definitely don’t know what Paige will do obviously. I don’t know what the rules are about future draft rights in WNBA. Maybe some can let me know. If Paige gets drafted and skips the year playing in Europe or Asia, does Dallas keep her rights or can she be drafted again on 2026? Paige’s injury history makes her a risk being drafted and she has to make though this season healthy first anyway. Does Paige want to go to LA if they have to give up Brink and the 2 pick to Dallas for her? Speculation that Paige doesn’t want to go to Dallas may lead to Sabaly and Howard signing elsewhere leaving the Wings weaker

    • @LampFan81
      @LampFan81 4 дні тому

      As for the Players Association and their plans, I’m hoping the NBA replace the Commissioner with someone with an iron will to force them into accepting a deal that leads to the league being profitable starting in 2026 with the new deal. I’m hoping the NBA stops carrying the league losing money season after season. As I understand the 11 year rights deal, the TV people can renegotiate after 2028 if tv numbers drop back and the Owners can if the CC effect leads to higher ratings league-wide
