Why couldn't the writers keep Maxie and Spinelli together. I mean, I like Nathan and all, but Maxie and Spinelli have history together.

Because Spinelli isn't on the show anymore on a regular basis (he doesn't want to be), and Kirsten said in an interview just this week that she doesn't want them back together.
