The games controls are way too reliant on the Hover nozzle that when yoi don't have it it feels incredibly janky. Pretty much the only way to jump over large gaps is the spin dive, which is not simple at all
The main reason for the jank is that as a result of time constraints Nintendo just ported over a lot of SM64's codebase to build Sunshine on top of, meaning both games have the same underlying technology and physics.

@@Guyro3278 so after you just watched this video of him saying it's a hated level and he gave the reasons why (I also don't like it for the exact same reasons he just said), you still think it's your favorite level huh?!
Sirena Beach (and definitely Sunshine in general) wasn't that bad. I agree, felt frustration when I first played it in 2002 looking for that pineapple, especially in a time where things like gamefaqs did indeed exist but internet access was nowhere near as easy to come by as today (was wifi even a thing at that point??) But that was part of the charm of gaming back then - getting stuck was a thing that would happen sometimes. If you were at a friend's house with no computer or on vacation somewhere with your family, you would either have to accept defeat and put the game down, or if you had nothing else to do/ no other games to switch to, really buckle down and try to figure shit out. Which meant meticulously talking to all the NPC's and trying to work out which dialogue was flavor text and which could be cryptic hints, combing all the nooks and crannies of the map looking for small visual indicators, etc. Especially for that mission in particular (wasn't it called "the mystery of the missing pineapple" or something?) the struggle felt immersive, really made you seem like an investigator questioning everybody and searching the entire hotel, lol. Not saying it's bad that games today are generally much easier, but that is something which is much rarer to come by, I mean the feeling of finally getting past a part you were stuck at for the longest time. Because at that point (remember, UA-cam was far off from being a thing) that meant unlocking the rest of the game, and feeling like "oh nice, I get to finally see what else this game has to offer!" Call it bad game design, but stuff like that had it's own charm.
I understand your points and I kinda agree. However clearing out the hotel mystery level as a kid, after exploring absolutely everything, made me feel like such a galaxy brain. I really appreciate that my hand wasn't held in that level. Also Sunshine's atmosphere and aesthetics are unmatched. It's so serene yet so eery, so comfy but something is always bugging you deep in your subconscious. Some levels have an "outerwordly eternity" feel to them, that I cannot explain.
I get what you’re saying but as a kid I got to hotel delfino and was just confused by the entire format of what was even going on. I quit and didn’t really pick the game up much after that. And that’s an experience a lot of kids had
@@PurgPurg their problem. I played this as well as a kid and beat it multiple times. Most people just have skill issues and want everything handed to them or their hand being held. When they grow older they hate when games do that - double standards.
I can't be the only one who only used the hover nozzle when fighting the Manta boss. Way easier that way. Sunshine, while a bit rough around the edges at times is still my favorite in the series. It's no where near the unfinished, broken messes that get released nowadays, and the creativity in the level design makes up for the occasional lack of polish. Most of the time it plays fine.
I think the spin jump spray is probably the best once they get smalller. But yeah I totally agree. I've replayed Sunshine twice this year, while I haven't replayed any of the other mario games. It's just a fun time! I think it's mostly that the movement mechanics are super zippy and make moving around fairly enjoyable in itself (i think traversing the level being generally pleasant is one of the defining characteristics of Nintendo games as a whole, actually!)
As someone who has recently finished playing this game, I give Super Mario Sunshine a solid 6/10 GOOD: - Has an interesting premise and setting - Beautifully designed locations - Essentially plays like an updated version of Super Mario 64, with its similar control scheme - FLUDD (especially the Rocket one) is fun to use, even if it's a bit gimmicky BAD: - No long jumping - Controls can be annoying when trying to be precise - Most levels are frustratingly difficult at several points, to the point where getting Shine Sprites doesn't feel satisfying because you'll be anticipating something worse in the next level. This along with the point below ruined the game for me. - The game often doesn't provide enough clearance on what you're supposed to do, which lead to more than a few times when I consulted UA-cam to help me out. - Camera often clips through walls, making it annoying when you're navigating through certain areas or trying to wall-jump - The climax felt rushed, and the ending was pretty meh
The Manta Ray boss was cool! it made effective use out of Mario's FLUDD and really tested the player's knowledge on some of its mechanics! This is one of the harder Mario bosses and I find that really cool because Mario isn't known for challenge especially when it comes to the bosses!
I 100% agree. I played sunshine on 3d all stars and it's one of those bosses that can be really frustrating at first but become incredibly fun once you get the hang of it.
My only complaint with Sunshine is that it's got only 8 levels including delfino plaza. It's got the same number of shines, but a piddly number of levels, so all the shines are stuffed into the levels in huge numbers. Dude, you don't need to do the toilet to get the pineapple, you need to go to the roof and ground pound through the ceiling. Even then, you can just jump on the toilet, you don't need to sideflip.
Also the fact that you absolutely have to beat the first 7 shines per level and you have to do it in order. It just defeats the purpose of making it doable in any order if you still have to do it all and the order doesn't change how each individual level plays out. And it also defeats the purpose in having bonus levels at all. It's pretend open-ended design, basically.
@@klop4228 exactly! On top pf all the other flaws THIS is the main reason I dislike the game. Essentially all the other shines that aren't shine 1-7 of each level are unnecessary, unless you intend to 100% the game. Which only a madman would do because of blue coins being hidden in the most obnoxious places and scattered within the acts. Which means the entire game is you playing act 1-7 of each stage in linear fashion. And a good amount of these shines suck.
@@solidzack 100%ing this game is ez af if you're not a kid or stupid af and I did it a few days ago once again. This Mario game isn't as linear as Galaxy 2 which is almost always higher rated. You still have different levels to choose and doing the 7 episodes per level isn't really hard. Most people just simply suck at video games simple as that.
The hotel puzzle doesn't rely on the leaky tub at all. There's another way to enter starting from the top floor. I completed it without hints and only just learned about the leaky tub clip. It's still my favorite shine in the game
Interesting, Sirena Beach was my favorite level of the game, I found it very mysterious and fun. My least favorite was the one with the mushrooms and the whole climbing nets under the world, riding baskets and all that crap, I forget the name.
My main problems with Sunshine is the controls themselves are pretty jank and that the shines are pretty linear to collect because you have to collect them in order instead of exploring and discovering secrets at your own pace like most other collectethons.
Yo that Fluff Festival lol I forgot about that level. Its an interesting level that they made. The coins are so scattered then you have to fluff to the shine. Lol
Dude that's prob one of my favourite levels in any game. It's just so cozy to play on a summer day and walking around talking to the residents about their little annual fluff ritual they have
So for the mysterious hotel definio part. The bathroom part, you dont need to do a flip to get to the top. Just stand on the toliet or by the wall of the leak and then jump. Mario will launch up.
I don't know why, I love Super Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy. Super Mario Sunshine was such a relaxing game and doing things with water was very interesting.
Yes I've also hated Sirena Beach as a kid and I still hate it now. I hate the manna rays, I hate that you have to spray the electric goop, I hate that the Shine Sprites don't take please in the hotel (which I guess kind of makes sense actually because it's called Sirena Beach for a reason and not Sirena Hotel). The factors I hated in this game were Shadow Mario (man was he always annoying to catch), the goopy inferno level in Pianta Village (man was that a lot of firey goop), and the 2 levels in Pinna Park where you are riding in a roller coaster and you have to squirt water rockets once at Mecha Bowser, and once at pink Bowser Jr balloons in order to get your rewards. I think I liked the Mecha Bowser level better than the Bowser Jr balloons level because the balloons were just so hard to aim and it was just annoying as heck.
I love how you have Crash 2 music playing and that game also has cryptic secrets. To be fair about the hotel, it's supposed to be a typical ghost house in a Mario game. Full of secrets to discover. But yeah fuck that bathroom stall.
All you gotta do is lay into the giant Manta at the start with Jumping Shotgun Water Blasts (where Mario sprays heavy blasts of water right in front of him), and then when it splits into all the tiny ones, just spam the Sprinkler Spray (where Mario spins like a top and sprays water in all directions). If it seems like you're about to be backed into a corner or trapped by the Mantas, just jump and Hover Nozzle to safety. Alternatively, you could avoid the Manta at start while it's gigantic, slow and easy to avoid, and clear away some of the electric goop to create a more stable fighting area before engaging the manta. And in the event you somehow run low on water, you can withdraw to the beach and refill. In the event the Manta knock Mario around too much, you can hit up the tiki bars in the middle of the map, grab those coins and get some HP back. All told, the battle shouldn't be so hard that Mario will have his HP depleted or run out of water before the Manta is defeated.
There are two main things that stop me from coming back to Sunshine, particularly in regards to 100%ing it again or even playing around on a 100% file" 1: No freedom. Sunshine brought a lack of freedom with it's mission mode. With Mario 64, you could go into any of the worlds and barring only a couple of selected stars, you could complete virtually any mission at ay point in any order. It was often fun to go into an area and see how many missions you could complete without collecting any stars. Sunshine heavily restricts this. 2: Blue coins. In Mario 64, collecting 8 red coins was sometimes irritating, and in some courses getting 100 coins was annoying, but the coins were not hidden from you and they were often clustered, so if you found one you found them all. Blue coins, however ,are in obscure, out of the way locations and they have no checklist for them anywhere. They also don't provide a reward right away when you get them, requiring you to trade them in batches of 10 per Shine. Woe to anyone who puts the game down for a bit then picks it back up without writing down which blue coins they have and haven't got.
Im surprised to hear that the leaky toilet was an issue for people. Considering there were so many secrets in the hotel, to me it was obvious to check it out when a pianta said something about it
A. The npcs all gove you hints of the hidden rooms location and all rooms puzzles. B. You DO NOT have to sideflip to go through the water in the bathroom. You literally just have to jump into it. 🤨 C. Flood teaches you the basics on using her.. at that point in the game if you haven't figured it out then I think my 6 year old self would give your current self a run for his money.
Sirena Beach is my favorite part of sunshine, I always love spooky stuff in Nintendo games and when I was a kid and even still today, I love exploring the hotel. My only two complaints about it is those darn tiles that flip a million times, and how quickly I get done with the stage 🤣🤣🤣I wish Nintendo did more stuff like Mysterious Hotel Delfino more often with all the crazy room transitions and whatnot. I guess I was the only one as a kid who was good at this stage lol.
It's one of my favourites, despite the occasional bit of jank, the vibes, the mechanics when they work, the yoshis, the level and character designs etc. I doubt I will ever love a game quite the same again
This was probably my favorite game as a kid and I'm pretty sure the first Sirena Beach level is why I stopped playing. I don't think I would've ever finished the other ones after that either.
I remember as a kid I spend a whole day playing the Yoshi mission, the casino part is literally my most hated part in any Nintendo game, thankfully the speedrun community found a way to skip that whole part entirely and since then I'm finally able to enjoy the level without suffering through anxiety attacks for how sensitive and random the panels are.
There’s so many things to hate about the game but like it has so much more soul compared to a lot of the other Mario games that I can’t ever hate it, it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played.
enter me, who went into the bathroom and jumped through the floor first thing. Sometimes I have the intuition for shit like this, sometimes I will spend an eternity looking for something that was more than obvious.
I loved the aesthetic of the hotel, but I hated that second secret stage. I liked wandering around the hotel. I remember my dad looked up how to beat the third episode on the internet at work.
The game not telling you all the little secret moves is a major plus for the game not a negative in my opinion. It encourages experimenting with flud, I remember being thrilled when discovering something
Super Mario Sunshine first came out when I was in middle school and I have good memories of playing it with my cousin during summer break. I also love Isle Delfino; it feels so alive compared to most 3D Mario worlds, which are essentially floating obstacle courses and the way you can see glimpses of one area of the isle from another is the icing on the cake. I also like a more story-driven Mario game with actual more voice-acting than usual, hopefully we'll get another some day. There are missions that seriously piss me off though; Blooper Surfing, The Shell's Secret, The Watermelon Festival, Red Coins of the Pirate Ships, and the Manta Storm to name a few. The over-reliance on Fludd can be a serious problem, especially since Mario can't jump nearly as well as in SM64.
I played this game for the first time when 3D All-stars came out. I played through most of the first level, pushing myself. I kept thinking it was going to get good soon. It never did. As far as I can tell, this isn't even a real Mario game. It just has Mario characters in it. Other than that, it has nothing to do with Super Mario. I skipped it & played Galaxy. That game is great!
In Sirena 2 that cork took me from when I was 6 to 12 years old to beat. A lot of that time was not doing it but I took me over 200+ attempts. The sand is ok not super hard. I tried it without jumping one time because it doesnt look like you can walk over the slopes and I got it. I can do it first try now because I play this game too much.
Nah dude that manta storm shine its one of the best missions on all marios history. And misterious hotel delfino i think thats the point xD thing being a mistery. I remember when i cracked the mistery as a kid traversing invisible walls and fighting boos like a detective
This video is funny because Serena beach is one of my favourite levels. Jumping burst fire works best for the manta ray. This is why having the manuals in games were awesome. Also the water leak. A double jump or wall jump is actually all it takes to skip the floor. This shine was my fav because it encourages exploration to find all the hidden rooms and exits.
To add on (you probably already know this, but for those who don't) - when you jump you can spam shoot+jump to go HAM with the burst fire. It's unbelievable how much water you can lay down that way. But it also uses your water up very quickly, so keep an eye on the meter and mind your positioning so you don't accidentally run dry and get cornered.
Honestly, the first level was so memorable for me! It terrified the hack out of me! XD And I love it! My pick for my least favourite levels of this world would be stage 4 because of the tedious foreplay (yes the bonus level was good!), and that level which covered the whole level with goop in a shape of Boo... My gosh... This was already a hard world... But that one... Jeez... Nowadays I am fine but back that I had no idea about that spray cannon thing...
I feel the early 2000s are some of the jankiest when it comes to videogames, which probably has to do with the generational jump between 5th and 6th gen. That jankiness either bring graphical or gameplay-wise. I also think it might be due to this generation being the first one that lets games have a better visual fidelity (aka, Mario actually looks like he does in the boxart)
As a kid, it took me a very long time to learn how to get to Noki Bay. I think I needed to see people talking about it online to even know that it existed. I know that the alerts give you a hint about it, but I never made the connection between that and the place where you enter the stage.
My main issue is the required Shine aspect of this game. If this game let me do whatever say 60- 70 shines I wanted I’d probably already be finished by skipping the secret levels I struggle on and getting some extra shines + blue coin shines
My problem with Sunshine is the story progression. To open up the final stage you have to defeat shadow mario in episode 7 of every level but there's nothing leading you to do that. I was at 80 shines or so until I accidentally triggered the event. The last story related cutscene before the final boss happens barely a quarter of the way into the game and you're left wondering how to get into the volcano because that's where flood said bowser Jt fled to. What's worse is that more than half the shines don't matter in the end because only the episode 7 shine matters for progression. Everything else is either leading up to ep 7 or wasted time. The blue coins are there just to make sure you never 100% complete the game without a guide. Some of them are so obtuse to obtain that I'm surprised even a single person found them at all and also posted it to gamefaqs.
manta ray is trivialized by just using the hover nozzle tbh as for the yoshi level, finding every fruit besides pineapple at the fruit stand is a nice little joke (plus the dialogue you get if you talk to the NPC running the stand) that works to tell you that you need to go exploring for the pineapple. the secret in the bathroom stall is indicated by it being the only stall with visible leaking water on the side. what one person sees as obscurity, another person will see as minimizing hand holding and letting the player have the satisfaction of figuring it out on their own. to me its a strength of this shine, and its one of the most memorable in the game that being said i agree that the grid of panels in the casino is flat out broken lol while you skipped over the boo boss, i will say that in terms of gameplay it represents the weakest attributes of old nintendo boss design, just too much waiting for your opportunity to do damage. i suppose there is a bit of puzzle aspect to determining that the hot pepper makes the boss vulnerable, but once you figure it out, you just have to repeat that three times and the boss is over. though it does get points for being bizarre & memorable i think over time people will start to appreciate that mario sunshine is actually one of the strongest 3d marios overall. despite its jank i just think theres way more creativity here than in galaxy. internally, sunshine was probably seen as being too carried away by its ambitions and needed to be reined in, so galaxy offers a far more polished experience. but ultimately it waters down mario's challenge a bit too much and is essentially a flashy crowd-pleaser. sunshine is due for its renaissance
I'm honestly confused. What is wrong with Super Mario Sunshine? Also, Sirenna Beach was favorite world of the game. I literally would go on vacation to the beach and would pretend like it was Sirenna Beach because of how much I love that map.
Oh you're good lol. I love your videos, I just was like I love Sunshine amd Sirenna Beach. But I can see how it could be annoying. Especially with the Secret Delfino area. If you don't speak with the Piñatas you won't know where to go
I played Super Mario sunshine for hours back then. Sure it has a few dificulty stages But that didn’t stop me. Those who hate that game just are easy quiter.
I remember when I discovered the toilet no clip part, I was really thinking that I did something it shouldnt happen, like a glitch used for speedrun or something.
I know that the Controls are wacky, but.. I oddly started to REALLY enjoy it, particularly after completing 2 100 Coin challenges, sure, the Blue Coins are annoying at times, or the timing for graffiti Blue Coins are a bit too fast, and that the levels just throw you into the world to find the shines, and some shines are difficult, however, it's actually a great game, once you can master the annoying off controls of course.
6:14 These are much, much worse in the Switch re-release of 3D All-Stars… if you play with any of the Switch's controllers. The GameCube had analog L and R triggers, and Super Mario Sunshine was one of the few games that took advantage of this. Basically, however far down you pressed R affected FLUDD's water pressure. On Switch, because the ZL and ZR triggers on either the Joy Cons or the Pro Controller are digital, the game assumes you're spraying with the highest amount of water pressure… which not only affects your aiming to some extent, but it means that flipping these switches takes MUCH longer than it needs to. I 100%'d this game BEFORE Nintendo patched in GameCube controller support. I do not recommend playing this game to 100% completion in general, but I especially don't recommend doing it with any of the Switch controllers.
The main reason I do not like starting to play mario sunshine is because the first part of the game is all fighting a goop enemy several times which requires to spray their mouth 3 times. It also has unskippable cutscenes. So before you can enjoy the game you have to get through a hour of cutscenes and fighting the same boss again and again.
Somehow the sirena beaches levels were fun for the weird issues even when I was five. I really enjoyed the challenge of this game and at first I didn't even realize how buggy it was. I just thought it was fun (and difficult 😬.)
Mostly good points, but complaining that something is in the manual instead of the game is silly. In that era, reading the manual was part of the gaming experience. You'd read it in the car on the way home. Or you would pick up info from gaming magazines. And even mentioning buying digital is ridiculous, given that the game is from way before online distribution. Nobody designed things on the basis of "what if someone buys it in a format where they don't get a manual?" Because every game had a manual and it was common knowledge that mechanics, story and flavour text were in there. Plus Nintendo was well aware that the schoolyard a place for sharing tips. One kid reads the manual and shares the tip with everyone else. Really not a big deal. Normal for the time.
Hate is a very strong word. I doubt any sane person would say they actually hate this game. Most people who dislike the game, dislike it because it's just so different to what they're used to. All these janky things literally dont bother me in the slightest XD
No, people dislike it because it’s janky and repetitive. If the janky things don’t bother you, that’s awesome. Doesn’t mean they don’t bother other people.
I guess you could say I have a love-hate relationship with this game. I love Isle Delfino, it's one of my video game dream-homes, but the things in this game that piss me off REALLY piss me off.

I would use the hover nozzle in the beginning, but then switched to spin jumping as they multiplied
No you’re the only one
Hover nozzle helps a lot during the challenge.
@Cheeks Flexington literally what
As someone who has recently finished playing this game, I give Super Mario Sunshine a solid 6/10
GOOD:
- Has an interesting premise and setting
- Beautifully designed locations
- Essentially plays like an updated version of Super Mario 64, with its similar control scheme
- FLUDD (especially the Rocket one) is fun to use, even if it's a bit gimmicky
BAD:
- No long jumping
- Controls can be annoying when trying to be precise
- Most levels are frustratingly difficult at several points, to the point where getting Shine Sprites doesn't feel satisfying because you'll be anticipating something worse in the next level. This along with the point below ruined the game for me.
- The game often doesn't provide enough clearance on what you're supposed to do, which lead to more than a few times when I consulted UA-cam to help me out.
- Camera often clips through walls, making it annoying when you're navigating through certain areas or trying to wall-jump
- The climax felt rushed, and the ending was pretty meh
Also, when you speak to the npcs in the hotel , they drop hints about there being a pineapple around.
GETTUM!
Fuck that level, I think it was the Pianta Village
My main problems with Sunshine is the controls themselves are pretty jank and that the shines are pretty linear to collect because you have to collect them in order instead of exploring and discovering secrets at your own pace like most other collectethons.
Dude I’m playing it for the first time and I’m absolutely done with it. The controls are absolute trash. The camera is absolute trash
@@EXISTINFREEDOM L2P. This Mario game has great controls you guys just suck because it's not as easy as 64 or Galaxy.
Sunshine is still my favourite Mario. Just the setting and it's levels like the hotel and the fluff festival is so damn comfy.
I agree, I love the atmosphere and theming of all the levels. i just don’t love how all of them play lol
Yo that Fluff Festival lol I forgot about that level. Its an interesting level that they made. The coins are so scattered then you have to fluff to the shine. Lol
Dude that's prob one of my favourite levels in any game. It's just so cozy to play on a summer day and walking around talking to the residents about their little annual fluff ritual they have
Same! I really hope they remaster it someday. I'd love to see it with that final bit of Nintendo polish.
Remember guys. When there's a hotel in a Mario game, you know it's another *Nintendo Seal of Quality* Hotel Mario game.
What about lodgenet
Luigi’s Mansion 3?
So for the mysterious hotel definio part. The bathroom part, you dont need to do a flip to get to the top. Just stand on the toliet or by the wall of the leak and then jump. Mario will launch up.
I don't care what people say. I love Sunshine. No, it's not entirely like Super Mario 64 and the story is weird, but it's still a great game.
Fun fact the manta is a reference to the ending of The Shinning, the book specifically not the movie.
Imagine pronouncing this game MAY-REO Sunshine…
I know….it pisses me off SO bad.
There are two main things that stop me from coming back to Sunshine, particularly in regards to 100%ing it again or even playing around on a 100% file"
1: No freedom.
Considering there were so many secrets in the hotel, to me it was obvious to check it out when a pianta said something about it
Imagine getting filtered by the best stage lol
4:34 it's easier than you think, you can simply jump and automatically get up there. I don't know what game would rely on it's disabilities.
I dont remember getting frustrated with this game ...i thoroughly enjoyed it
I was utterly confused in the second episode of the Hotel. Nintendo usually NEVER designs a level that cryptic.
Thank you for this vid!! I don’t see Sunshine’s crypticness being touched upon enough
I didn't like having to rely on that backpack to do almost everything.
enter me, who went into the bathroom and jumped through the floor first thing. Sometimes I have the intuition for shit like this, sometimes I will spend an eternity looking for something that was more than obvious.
I actually really love Sirena Beach
I loved the aesthetic of the hotel, but I hated that second secret stage. I liked wandering around the hotel. I remember my dad looked up how to beat the third episode on the internet at work.
The game not telling you all the little secret moves is a major plus for the game not a negative in my opinion. It encourages experimenting with flud, I remember being thrilled when discovering something
I love Super Mario sunshine! Its one of my favorites
WHY DO YOU SAY MARIO LIKE THIS 😭😭
MARRYOAH
Love the crash bandicoot music in the background lol
I don't know how in the blue hell I 100% this on Switch.
this game starts out cute and then i hate it
I played this game for the first time when 3D All-stars came out.
I love how the crash bandicoot music fits Mario so well lol
Nah dude that manta storm shine its one of the best missions on all marios history. And misterious hotel delfino i think thats the point xD thing being a mistery. I remember when i cracked the mistery as a kid traversing invisible walls and fighting boos like a detective
The Manta Ray boss isn’t that bad if you use the horizontal nozzle and fly over the rays.
But it also uses your water up very quickly, so keep an eye on the meter and mind your positioning so you don't accidentally run dry and get cornered.
if u say u hate mario sunshine i will FLOOD your house
Honestly, the first level was so memorable for me!
It terrified the hack out of me! XD
And I love it!
The reason why people hate the game is because it’s fking awesome.O.O
I didn't even know that people hated it. Everyone around me loved the game
I love this game, even I can knowledge how more glitchy it is then other Mario games.
best game in the world i love u forever super mario sunshine
Is it weird I never encountered glitches or bugs while playing this as a kid? Just the normal physics jank like with the chucksters?
Sunshine definitely hits me hard in the nostalgia but in practice on a gameplay level I prefer Galaxy hands down
for that leak all you need is a single jump and it takez you there lol
1:09 Thank you for the traumatic memory... I hate you :')
Ah yes, my favorite video game character…
*Super Maerio*
Some of them are so obtuse to obtain that I'm surprised even a single person found them at all and also posted it to gamefaqs.
manta ray is trivialized by just using the hover nozzle tbh
as for the yoshi level, finding every fruit besides pineapple at the fruit stand is a nice little joke (plus the dialogue you get if you talk to the NPC running the stand) that works to tell you that you need to go exploring for the pineapple. the secret in the bathroom stall is indicated by it being the only stall with visible leaking water on the side. what one person sees as obscurity, another person will see as minimizing hand holding and letting the player have the satisfaction of figuring it out on their own. to me its a strength of this shine, and its one of the most memorable in the game
that being said i agree that the grid of panels in the casino is flat out broken lol
while you skipped over the boo boss, i will say that in terms of gameplay it represents the weakest attributes of old nintendo boss design, just too much waiting for your opportunity to do damage. i suppose there is a bit of puzzle aspect to determining that the hot pepper makes the boss vulnerable, but once you figure it out, you just have to repeat that three times and the boss is over. though it does get points for being bizarre & memorable
i think over time people will start to appreciate that mario sunshine is actually one of the strongest 3d marios overall. despite its jank i just think theres way more creativity here than in galaxy. internally, sunshine was probably seen as being too carried away by its ambitions and needed to be reined in, so galaxy offers a far more polished experience. but ultimately it waters down mario's challenge a bit too much and is essentially a flashy crowd-pleaser. sunshine is due for its renaissance
I was never able to get that goddamn pineapple as a kid... You're telling me, that the way to get to it... *IS CLIPPING THROUGH THE FUCKING FLOOR?!*
Why are you so underrated? You should be famous like everyone else!
More people should start watching you!
Lol I’ve been asking myself the same question!!
I'm honestly confused. What is wrong with Super Mario Sunshine? Also, Sirenna Beach was favorite world of the game. I literally would go on vacation to the beach and would pretend like it was Sirenna Beach because of how much I love that map.
Sorry If I made it confusing, I was saying Sirena Beach is why people hate sunshine.
@@pressaTD Thats just your opinion dude. Speak for yourself
I remember when I discovered the toilet no clip part, I was really thinking that I did something it shouldnt happen, like a glitch used for speedrun or something.
I know that the Controls are wacky, but.. I oddly started to REALLY enjoy it, particularly after completing 2 100 Coin challenges, sure, the Blue Coins are annoying at times, or the timing for graffiti Blue Coins are a bit too fast, and that the levels just throw you into the world to find the shines, and some shines are difficult, however, it's actually a great game, once you can master the annoying off controls of course.
if you hate Super Mario Sunshine, you hate video games
Getting +60 stars and completing the storymode was challenging for me. Completing 100% is an insame acheivememt
Mantastorm is as far as I ever got playing this game as a 7 year old kid. 21 years later, maybe it's time to go back and finish the game now!
The Nintendo seal of approval never really meant anything though. There were all kinds of terrible games on the NES with that seal
I don’t care if anybody says it’s too hard, I’ll still love this.
whats the mellow song that plays during the intro???
Your videos are great! keep up the good work!
Sunshine has the most intense difficulty spikes i've ever experienced
Sunshine was the game that got me into mario. i had ignored the series as a kid in the 90's. and i still think it's one of the best in the lineup.
Super Mario 64 is way better than this
When I was 5 this was my favorite level and had no problem finding all the secrets even tho I didn't knew how to read english.
The manta storm of Sirena Beach was my all time favorite level.
All of sunshine is tedious and annoying with the most jerkiest Mario movement in any Mario game wth where they thinking
So the most responsive movement with the fanciest flippy tricks and spin jump is bad?
Somehow the sirena beaches levels were fun for the weird issues even when I was five. I really enjoyed the challenge of this game and at first I didn't even realize how buggy it was. I just thought it was fun (and difficult 😬.)
Tried playing this on switch and that beach course is literally what made me give up.
"Mary-oh"? It's "Mario"
THE OBSTACLE COURSE LEVELS WERE PURE HELL AND THE SAND BURD AND EVERYTHING ELSE
its not janky. ITS CRAP
i loved playing super Mario sun shine i played the whole game and loved it
Sirena Beach may be janky, but that atmosphere is something else. It has such a great vibe to it.
Meanwhile, Im still locked in episode 4 trying to find 8 red stars
Mantastorm can be fixed if you go into the ocean since the trail can’t show up on the father ends of the ocean
