Awesome chapter. This really was the book that sets it all into motion.
I do like that Sarpedon got a really cool death; and though his armor got looted, I'm glad that at least the gods take away his body before it can be trampled or dragged around the camp(like what will happen later to a certain someone).
Man I'm glad to see Ajax the Great still going strong, and still fighting even when he has just a broken stick along with his huge shield.
Patroclus has some great moments all throughout this book. He has such a great killing spree that I gotta rank him up there near Diomedes and Ajax; less than them, but if so, only slightly less than them(if we're judging how effective they are as warriors).
And Hector has been looking really bad for the last few books now.. full of himself and cocky and wants to take full credit for things the gods literally give him for nothing(and thinking its by his own prowess alone that he took the Greek camp).. Hector has transformed from a dutiful and noble warrior from the early books into someone very similar to his awful brother that started all this, Paris. Hector's a far better warrior even without the gods help but still... and the circumstances around Patroclus and Hector's "fight"(wasnt really a fight so much as the gods injure Patroclus, another hero wounds him badly, then Hector comes running out of the trojan line to steal someone elses kill basically and stabs Patroclus after Apollo has removed most of his armor and shield and weapons already; when hes already been badly wounded twice including the concussion from Apollo and the stab wound to the back) just make me dislike this cocky version of Hector even more. Esp when Patroclus says with his dying breath that not only was the kill meaningless cause it wasnt by his own power; but that Achilles is gonna be super pissed and is coming for Hector. And Hector laughs at that? Well he wont be laughing much longer after Achilles really does come for him.
I like how badass the Myrmidons, Achilles men, are. The book says their something like "Achilles is the best of the Achaeans" and same for the warriors he commands(and presumably has trained himself, or his father trained them; all these heroes are basically noblemen and one of their jobs would be to train their soldiers, and gear them up if they had the cash for that).
I look forward to the rest of the book. Also lol @ Zeus trying to bend the rules only when his son/sons are involved. I didn't exactly wanna see Sarpedon die either but it is amusing how hypocritical the gods are.
I gotta said maybe its just cause I like The Aeneid so much but Aeneas is my favorite Trojan hero. Hector starts off great but slowly and surely becomes somewhat contemptible. Glaucus is cool too but we dont see as much of him as other heroes. And by this point most of the Greek heroes have been sidelined from injuries and the Greeks dont have magical healing from Apollo like the Trojans.
