Try not to trivialize your PC decal tutorials. They are so enlightening and a huge help to people like me. If it wasn't for those tutorials, I wouldn't have the great looking cars that I have so my better quality of gaming is because of your work. Thank you for doing them. I don't think I'll be using my phone as small screens just annoy me. I much prefer the PC.
I appreciate that man and it’s great to hear how you’ve been putting the tutorial videos to work! I’m actually right there with you where I much prefer the larger screen and a mouse/keyboard vs the touch interface.

Haha thanks bro! That’s my thought too, just hanging about and have your phone and can pump out some decals. Little bit of a learning curve with the app but a little practice goes a long way

I just want to say your tutorial is simply excellent. Love your approach to teaching and it was very inspiring. Although I now tried to do this and learned Linearity took over and seems the app is no longer available. I see it has changed to Linearity Curve Graphic Design. Would this tutorial still apply with this version?
Yep! I’ve been using linearity quite a bit on my iPad. It works really well for drawing/sketching. The only function that seems to have gotten dwarfed in linearity is the auto trace unfortunately. I can’t get it to output a high quality trace anymore.

Hey Kix! Yeah that error is the catch all error GT throws if your file is either too large or the wrong format. I’ve found that most of the time it’s due to too large of a file size.

You can use Inkscape, but it’s on your computer. I’ve released a few videos on how to do it
Followed the directions to the tee and it’s telling me “my browser isn’t supported”, and I don’t think that’s the case.
Does the file have to start out as an SVG?
The files doesn’t have to start out as an SVG. That error code is used for pretty much everything, which makes debugging things hard. Especially because there is no specific browser that’s needed, so the error doesn’t even make sense lol. It’s most likely the file size though.

Hey Skully, so it looks like the illustration mode is only available on certain iPhone/iPad models, probably due to the resource demand it causes on the device.

Photography mode works pretty good still, just takes a bit of fine tuning afterwards

I agree! Although after playing around in vectornator I can see why they haven’t. It must have taken a ton of effort to get the app where it is, and functional so people will want to use it. I honestly have a hard enough time on a computer in Inkscape sometimes and the thought of translating that to a touch interface would keep me up at night if it were my responsibility!
Anybody recommend buying this game? I've been wanting to play it for a while now because of the livery for the cars.
I do. I go through periods where I spend a lot of time in the livery editor, and other periods where I’m more focused on racing, or just hanging out in open lobbies drifting, etc. the game has a lot of playability and will for at least a couple more years.

Hey Ralphir the two most common reason for this error are you file is over 15kb in size or it’s not a correct svg format
I have recently found out that the Android version is like 10 bucks. Do you happen to know any alternatives?

Subscribed, then saw this, and appreciated the video, although this is clearly only for iPhone - sadly as a android user, we don't have the Vectornator app available as far as I know.
But I did find out that I'm not using SVGOMG (thanks Jake!) correctly as I've never been shown the numbers bit!
And @GTJesse - feel free to make a video from my request, if you can crack it!?!

Hey Nathan glad you were able to see svgomg in action and at least get a little bit out of the video. I’m sure there’s a similar android solution out there but just not familiar with it. Might make a video of your request, we’ll see how it goes! 😂😂 been traveling for work this week and haven’t been able to really sit down with it yet.

I have used SVGOMG previously with varying success, but that feature was new - so thank you for that!
I shall have to search for an android version somewhere, the people behind Vectornator don't do android and have no plans to, shame really.

Unfortunately it doesn’t always work properly.
I created a decal design with 4 shapes in red on a white background in Procreate.
Very simple, nothing crazy!
I then opened Vectornator and imported my decal design (jpeg), did what you showed here in the video and the decal design had weird outlines.
Even though I tried the 3 options (Photography, Sketch and Illustration).
Ah, unfortunately vectornator was purchased by linearity curve, and they did something to the auto trace algorithm. It hasn’t been the same since. If you have a PC I’d recommend using Inkscape for auto trace.

Found the reason it’s not working for me. “The Illustration Mode is only applicable on an A12 processor or its corresponding devices, such as the iPhone XR / iPad Air 3rd gen and newer, and M1 MacBooks or higher.”
Oh wow! That’s really good to know man thanks for coming back and letting me know. The photography mode does work but it just seems will require a little bit more massaging with the nodes.

hello, is there any program for android phone?
There are some out there for creating vectors but I just haven’t had a chance to mess around with them. PainterSVG has pretty good reviews but I’m not sure that it will let you convert images to vectors.

there was an update recently to Linearity curve and the autotrace function doesn't seem to work as well for me as it did when it was Vectornator. Quite disappointing honestly.
is there a better app or way to make decals on phone? Maybe you can make an updated tutorial?

Yep. The decal upload process is the same for GTS and GT7
How was you using your iPhone like that?
Good question! I used screen record on the iPhone and enabled the microphone option too so it picks up what’s on my screen and what’s being said. Then to zoom in and out on the screen I turned on some of the accessibility settings. Now when I tap my screen three times with three fingers it will zoom in 5x. If I tap again 3 times with three fingers it will zoom out.

"Create decals on your IPHONE," it should say (this app & video info don't work for PC, Android, Linux, etc., & I have no i-products but still enjoyed the video).
I do have another video on Inkscape for Windows/Linux users. But you’re correct this is only for iPhone at this point.

So at some point vectornator was acquired by linearity curve and when that happened the auto trace functionality went to shit. The same thing happens to me on iPhone and iPad no matter what settings I use

No vectornator on Android yet unfortunately. You could always try Adobe Illustrator

Hey buddy! 9 out of 10 times this is because the file size is too big. Did you try running it through svgomg?
@@GTJesse the file size is good. When it’s not the system says file size is too big. I can’t find a way of using this. I’ve tried 4 difereent softwares.
How can you make the image under 15KG?
That’s the million dollar question. It’s a balance of removing unnecessary data while also retaining the quality of the vector. I’ve made a few videos on the topic if you have a look at my playlists.
How do you upload it to GT7?
If you search for GT7 My Page it’ll bring you to your online portal where you can sign in and upload decals
Absolutely trash app, still to this day I can’t even get logos into the game on my computer or iPhone, the files are SVG and under 12kb this is frustrating
It’s definitely not easy and has given me a greater appreciation for graphic designers

Yeah, they were bought by a company called linearity curve which I can’t really stand behind so I haven’t found a suitable alternative to make a 2024 version.
