I just got a Google Pixel 7 pro and I love it! I have always wanted to be able to do this and I am very happy with the results, though I'm not in an area where I can see the milky way and there is some light polution, I agree, its a shame that it is only one second, I hope Google listens and realises we want to be able to do longer ones! Great video :)
Hi Loïc, Living in the middle of nowhere in the Centre of Fr. we have the privilege to see non light polluted night sky's. So with my new 4a I will try this out thanks to your tutorial. It amazes me how performant this smartphone is... and I only just discover ! Thanks for sharing & greetings, Filip
Oui, ce téléphone est super impressionnant! C'est vraiment chouette que tu peux facilement voir le ciel étoilé sans pollution lumineuse (btw I hope answering in French was okay, it's my first language)
I live in New York and stars are nonexistent here lol can't use my pixel to capture the night sky unfortunately. The fact that a 400 dollar phone can do this is highly impressive the future is not coming it's already here 🔥🔥🔥
It really is impressive!! You should check this site to find where you can get dark skies: darksitefinder.com/maps/world.html. You want anything darker than yellow.
Both great phones but the Pixel 4XL is getting old. The rumours that the Pixel 5a will be very similar to the 5 but at a cheaper price and should come out in the next weeks (if the rumours are accurate)
@@loicba Aa it's clear, I just fell in love with the pixel 4xl, but can I ask you if these are the same photos? As pisel 4a and 5. Or the same thing is the same? Thank you for the information , but your videos are the coolest and everything is clearly clear😍
Nice video! It's amazing how easy it's become to capture stars and the Milky Way! I really wished Google allowed users to determine the length of timelapses. It's also rly disappointing that Google delivers updates only to phones that are 3 yrs old or younger, makes em less usable on the long run... :(
I totally agree! I understand when they change the lenses or sensor that some new features can’t come to old phones but it’s exactly the same lens/sensor since the Pixel 3…
That shot of the Milky Way was absolutely stunning. Been trying to capture that for quite a while now if it wasn't for the clouds. Thank you for the upload. 👍
Astrophotography time laps would look awesome with a full moon, scattered cloud and a lake right in front. Only thing is the moon would be too bright. I tried few and those are awesome but the moon would mostly look like the sun :D.
Yep exactly! I tried some light painting for the foreground in the past but the results where disappointing. I will continue to try testing it out and share my results if they are good!
Alford exactly how old might you be? You look a teenager to me ! But your presentation and coverage of the subject are soooo mature! Did you take a photography course ? ❤️❤️
Haha I'm older than you think, I just look young in videos ;) I think I was 23 when I filmed that video. I learned photography by my own, mostly just by trial and error. I did take one photography class in school but it was very technical and didn't find it very useful. I always recommend to just take pictures and then analyze them to understand what is good or bad about them.
Awesome video :-) I have an LG V40, and I plan to attempt some astrophotography timelapses this summer. Is it possible on that phone, or would I have to manually take a picture every like 20 seconds :( ?
Thanks! Not only is it possible, but I even have a video about it: ua-cam.com/play/PL6kUdfoIX4tzkZ5_Np2w4YNkimdcZtoYo.html (watch the astrophotography one)
so you have to sit there - in the cold - and keep poking it.... wouldn't it be marvellous if we could get a machine to do that? You know, maybe like the sophisticated computer in your effing phone! I can only assume this is some deal Google has struck with Camera manufacturers as "unfair competition" because CLEARLY the electronics and lenses are very capable of this. Same nonsense with my Canon Camera - you can do timelapse or night photography, but not both.
In this case, it kind of makes sense because they merge 16 shots to create one picture. There are other apps that have built-in intervals timers and can be used to create astrophotography time lapses: ua-cam.com/video/RgKgM73yBQw/v-deo.html
Yes, but the results are way worse! The Google Camera app does photo stacking to reduce noise and make the stars more visible and this is must on such a small sensor. If you want more control, enable RAW and you will get a file you can fully edit afterwards without loosing the computational photography that makes the Pixel phone so great!
I am using pixel 4a 5g and it also has the feature... but after taking an astrophotography shot i didn't find any time lapse video in my gallery. How do i fix this ?
Yes, all Pixels since the Pixel 3 have the astrophotography mode. Just make sure it's dark enough and the camera doesn't move for a few seconds. It will automatically suggest the mode.
#Tip To Take Longer Timelapses - 1 shot captures 1 second of timelapse. So take as many shots as you want back to back and combine the videos together. ✌️
It's a good tip but it will create small visible gaps. I have a video that talk about how to get longer timelapses of the stars using your phone: ua-cam.com/video/RgKgM73yBQw/v-deo.html
He uses Photo Pills, a paid app, but he said in a previous video that Stellarium is a decent free alternative. I haven't tried it yet, but I believe it can also be used to plan shoots.
Exactly what @ddc answered. Stellarium is an astrology app so it’s not meant for photography but you can locate stars and the Milky Way with AR for free, so it’s still very useful!
I have recently purchased Google Pixel 6a and have been trying to do the astrophotography like a pro but getting unsuccessful everytime. Your videos are amazing. Can you tell me which app you used to find the milky way???
Happy to hear the video are helping! I often say it's harder to find the right location/conditions than taking the shots. The app is called PhotoPills. Stellarium is a great free alternative.
Yes it’s still a great phone but I would wait for the Pixel 5a that is just around the corner. Google offers 3 years of software update but the Pixel 4a has only two left. The difference between the 4a and 5 are an extra wide-angle lens, bigger battery, wireless charging and slightly better screen. In my opinion it’s not worth twice as much. The Pixel 6 should also come this fall and they are expected to update the camera sensor and lens after using exactly the same one for 4 years!! It should be quite an upgrade in photography department.
