2018 Stock intel coolers suck when compared to AMD coolers
Laxmi Narayanan KS lol have you seen the old ones?
not just cooler
how amd designed their cpu's TDP and cpu's perfroms
AMD Ryzen is king on the TDP/Cores/performance/Price.
Na any stock cooler since 1155 there like 1/2-1/4 the hight
Intel stock coolers, and even more their thermal paste have been sucking hard since Skylake. It was so bad I had to replace my i5 6500's stock cooler with a Cryorig M9i just to play GTA 5 without overheating!
how to mount an intel cooler on amd motherboard and processor? please reply fast and link for the swap bracket. thanks
But anyway...
Back on topic.
2:22 That's what she said?
Noice shirt
Waste of time. Deepcool, Raijintek, Cooler Master, Arctic and many more, have coolers around $20 which are way better than Wraith Spire.
That's nice. You totally missed the fucking point.
Please explain. Please explain why the fuck would I put an old Ryzen cooler if I want to switch to Intel? Why not just sell it and buy something better? Please explain the point then....
Back on topic!
Jarrod'sTech but anyway...
Hi bro
You madman! Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
"Literally screwing them behind and matching up the holes" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Bryan 2018
"Screwing em down from behind by lining up the holes"
Oh yes, yes we can.
actually pretty useful. I ditched my wraith spire in the ryzen for T4 cooler, so now I can use that wraith spire for something. I got like 5x h55 builds here.
tamo junto meu parcerin, faz um video mostrando isso pa nois na humilda
O Wraith Stealth tanka o X3430 numa h55 simples da Brazil PC? Salva o vrm?
Pre-drilling and tapping the holes is a nice solution, also the fins could have been dremeled without totally ruining the cooler
Grind it ,don't hammer it , it's restricted the air around it !
My stock cooler that came with my Ryzen 5 1600 (The Wraith Spire I belive) got me to 3.8ghz solid, I still had thermal headroom to go to 4ghz but the CPU would crash instantly on a cinebench run so I believe it was an bad overclocker, but the cooler is really effective
Hi Bryan, I'd love to a test of some budget SSDs you can get from Aliexpress and eBay from brands such as KingDian, Vaseky, Kingspec etc... Keep doing what your doing and love the channel.
Only read terrible things about those... Like the SSD´s failing after 2 months etc...
I'm only interested in the raw performance of these things (or lack there of). I wouldn't ever consider purchasing one, period.
Just buy a cheap SSD off AliExpress they work fine I’ve used them, the only bad one seems to be the nvme kingspec that runs extremely hot
Bob Clapperton works fine
T0T0L`/A they have better graphics on the product pages lol. What is the advantage?
you say that the copper slug isnt permanently attached however as an engineer i can say it is as there would be no other way other than a compression fit to connect copper and aluminium as they wont weld or solder together and a compression fit wouldnt need thermal paste or adhesive.
pepsi bottle, coca cola glass, *I don't give a damn*
Those didn't look like self tapping screws. Self tapping screws have a vertical cut in the end perpendicular with the threads. This sharp end is what cuts the threads. If those were actually self tapping screws you would have seen aluminum shavings come out where the threads were cut.
These are just regular screws but since they went into aluminum it just deformed the aluminum to accept the threads. Self tappers aren't required when going in softer metals as long as your hole is the right size
Haha loved the transformers ref! Gen 1 movie, doesn't get any better!
Pro tip. Screw the screws into the cooler without the mobo use the screws as a threading tool then use new screws when mounting.
While I love the idea/concept, the execution here was... lacking. Breaking off the screw mounts for the stock screws? Why not just pull off their c-rings and remove the screws without damage? Similarly, bending away fins with a hammer? Why not use a dremel or hacksaw? I suppose you use what you have, but that's not exactly good DIY advice. Oh, and the copper vapor chamber slug coming loose doesn't bode too well for thermal conductivity between it and the aluminium, now does it? I suppose lowering it down had benefits for fitment, but I'd at least pull it all the way out and smear some thermal paste around it to avoid air gaps as it's already loose. Not that the temps seem bad, but once it's loose, chances are vibrations will cause it to loosen further.
Let me just go get my dremel... oh wait. I don't have one. and how exactly would you use a hacksaw for that? Maybe tin snips at best, but the idea of using a hack saw for that? Laughable.
The idea of mounting an AMD stock cooler to and intel board itself is ghetto and budget. Him hammering it is totally in character for what he's doing.
@@bearhopman6785 Wow, not often I get a reply to a 2-year-old comment. Oh well. Firstly, I wouldn't say it's ghetto in concept, more of an experiment in testing how AMD's stock coolers compare to Intel's. Nothing at all ghetto about that. Someone wanting to do this rather than go out and buy a $30 cooler is of course a bit of a hack, but then why do something like this if you don't have the tools for the job? Secondly, trimming off the corners of the fins with a hacksaw wouldn't be that difficult - just angle it across at an angle and go at it. (Unless you need to remove them all the way in, but it doesn't look like that's the case.) Tin snips would probably work decently, but with those you always have the issue of actually getting them in there in the first place. Grinding them away with something like a power file might be the best. Or given how soft aluminium is, just a sharp chisel and a mallet.
i want to come over and smoke some of what you're smoking
Cooler Master makes a cooler series called X-Dream, they are almost identical to the SMD Wraith coolers
I sometimes forget you're from the down under I guess I just got used to your accent. You keep mentioning summer and I look out the window and it's piss pouring rain here in the states. Lol I'm up here wishing for summer!
Where can i get those custom Corsair monitor stands
Hey Brian, I have a problem, see I was inspired by you to buy used hardware but I'm not sure if my Acer M3910 H57H-AM2 can support Xeon x3430 or the x3440. I will really appreciate your help.
This is why I like u better than Linus 😍
To anyone who is thinking of doing this, just fucking don't. Its a terrible bodge and you should just fork out
No.
Not going to lie, you guys have the best money design I have ever seen.
Mac Dee Australia prints about 40 countries currencies, including the British Pound
Thanks for that fact, now the question is, how do I get a hold of some of them. I live in the US and now I am thinking of collecting them, looks really good. Just curious if you know any legit website that offers them?
If it doesn't fit, bet a bigger hammer!
Yep. Did something similar on my Q6600 with the stock Dell heatsink. The plastic part of the Spire can be unscrewed from the heatsink, the screw holes matched up with the LGA 775 Dell heatsink I had already. No extra screws needed. So now I have an HP PC from 2009 that originally had an AMD system in it, upgraded to an Intel system from another HP computer, used a cooler from a Dell Intel system, and replaced the fan part with an AMD Wraith Spire LED cooler. Totally worth it.
Ah, don't smash the fins, so ugly and you are messing up the airflow that suppose to pass through the fins... trim them with a dremel nest time :)
It's fine....
I love videos and projects like this man, but honestly all the work and damage you had to do the spire. I think would be better just to spent the 20ish and get a working cooler. I know every buck count with a budget build but if you can't do 20 more prob shouldn't be building.
You should think about to cut out the capacitors from motherboard, or smashing 'em down with a little help of hammer :))) Poor Amd cooler don't deserve to treat like that xD
I have a Pentium 4 cooler on my Core 2 duo E7300 pc and I must say that heat transfer is better than a stock intel core 2 duo cooler even when overclocked to 3.30ghz it keeps the processor amazingly cool around 40 to 50 degrees but my Pentium 4 processor which came with this cooler heats up to 70 degrees.
Better to cut the fins then hammer them to push out the slug. Also, hopefully people will tap the screws before install as aluminum shavings on the motherboard can't be good.
Late to the show, but the stock mounting screws can be removed by lifting the silver metal tabs up from around the black screws one by one until they release. This way you can restore the stock mounting screws if you want to move the cooler back to an AM4/AM5 system.
People, I want to know something. I'm starting a new watercooling build (my first) and I have a few questions. I have vega 64 gpu from msi, an I7 8700k, the Asus strix z370 e, 16gb trident z memory and a 1000watt psu from cooler master (the v1000). I was thinking of putting a reservoir in the place of the hard drive cage. Would that work? I am thinking of using the ek xres 140 revo d5. If not, what will work? I am also planning on using the vega 64 water block from ek but it doesn't look like the radiator, fans and the block will fit. I just have the pc and no watercooling equipment as of now so I haven't bought anything. I am thinking of using the ek supremacy evo cpu water block or the phanteks cpu water block (the c350a_bk01). Would it be possible to squeeze a 360mm rad in there? Or a 240 up top alone with fans in the front? Will a 240 alone be enough for both the cpu and the gpu? Or should I just change the case? Do you guys have a better suggestion for the case? A case with better watercooling support, maybe? With decent airflow? Also, if you can help me out with the fittings and stuff, it would be appreciated. I'm probably not going to be using hard tubing cause I'm lazy so bends and stuff don't matter as much anyway.
linus would have cable tied his way
You'ed still have to buy the spire so by that point you mayaswell buy a H 212EVO. anyone building cheap whont have a wraith spire knocking around from a 150 dollar cpu.
Hmmm Aussie money looks like our new-ish Canadian money.
John Kramps Australia has had polymer notes for almost 30 years already
We (Australia ) print your money
oliverpaints Wow... that is an interesting fact!
This is surreal seeing Brian with black hair.
I came here when he mentioned the RGB Wraith Cooler when fixing a flood-damaged PC and I wondered if there was an Intel version.
Im planing on replacing the old intel stock cooler to my x58 motherboard and use my old wraith amd cooler wich i moded with a 92mm fan for less noise and better performance i found this on the internet www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233060 but i cant find any mounting solutions for the 1366 socket nor the 115X socket do you now any good mounting solution to this ? thanks in advance
believe or not i found one of those amd wraith in a junkyard, and i modded into my lga1155 i5, i had a milling machine so it was easy to do using a sheet of aluminium and some nuts , my i5 is super cool now
YOU CAN MAKE A 3D PRINTED PLATE TO ADAPT THIS
Man are really have covered almost all possibilities haven't you.
Everywhere I go I see his face
Im literally on the other side of the world, but that unorganized screw drawer is bothering me.
I would've taken a dremel and cut off some of the heatsink at the sides were the capacitors are.
But that works too :D
I am waiting on the Cooler Master G100M cooler that looks like an UFO.
odd, hell I did this twice, its so much better than the half inch thick one that came with the 3770K I am rebuilding for a extra computer
I found a smarter way but i dont have this cooler i just saw the look u can remove the cooler from the heat sink then put it on ur intel heat sink and screw it on the heat sink
The copper heat base you talk about is actually a vapor chamber.
How many hits of that Whiskey did you do after making this video?
That currency is transparent!
Yes, it's what Australia's and New Zealand's notes are like. Sorry if it's not 'murican notes.
The Slendcrafter ya man! Just watched a video about the note, it was awesome and the safety features were very good! Nice!
Aussie currency goes in a linear scale increasing in length, size and weight as it goes up
Yep plastic notes we have the same kind now in the uk.
FullSpectrumWarrior australia was vasically the first place to use polymer notes in the early 90s
Can this fit Lga 1155 socket H2? Please let me know ASAP. I’m waiting
anyone know an older graphics card that is better than a gtx 1060 3gb for $250
I know I'm late but I got an old PC and you can just unscrew the amd cooler fan and put it on an Intel heatsink and use it that way
Good day, what is the name of the item needed to mount AMD cooler on a Xeon processor?
intel will love this! thare chips are better cooled by a free amd cooler after just a little hammering. epic!
almost any cooler can be attached ghetto way (with some wires or those plastic dented thingy) to any motherboard
Diagonal mount and then use zipties!
actually good idea mate :D
Intro music?
Chillstep Is Life yeh I want to know aswell. Keep asking so we can both find out.
answer this so that fan will be compatible in asrock or what mother board is that???
this is like drinking pepsi out of a coca cola glass
Not into bangin' coolers mate, but good info none the less.
One thing I'd like to point out is that with the older LGA1155 and LGA1156 socket ASRock motherboards, there's an option called CCO aka Combo Cooling Option, which allows you to use any LGA 775 socket cooler you may have lying around through additional holes to accommodate them at the back of the motherboard. So, if you have a LGA1155 and/or LGA1156 ASRock board, and you don't wish to invest in an expensive cooler, you can grab an older intel LGA 775 Cooler and get a decent performance out of them.
lol the old japaneze transformers cartoons I have all of them lol
Can you do a video about cheap lga 1155 CPU's
Can i used wraith stealth cooler in a8 emaxx mobo?
zip ties will do the work of those screws wihtout all the hazed.
Would like a less janker version of this tho
You just took Winking way better than Priya warrier
Hi Brian! I have a Xeon x3440 and I can't get past 3.3ghz on my ASRock H55M-LE (voltage: 1.25v). I have a CoolerMaster hyper 212x. Increasing the voltage isn't making a difference. Do you think the mobo is the problem?
This crazy stupid idea came into my head just now and I decided to google it, just to end up on what I was assuming would be some mad man's video. Turns out it was already-familiar-to-me (still mad man) TechYES :)
and some guy in india said: YOU´RE WEIGHTING THE CABLESZZ... CABLELZZ DONT DO COLINGG......CABLES JUST MAKE THE FANZ SPINNZ.
That's from Coolermaster, not Noctua. Noctua has a plate for LGA socket only while using AMD's backplate for AM4 mounting. This is LGA 115x/775 and AMD mount brackets, typically from Cooler Master but the new ML240R doesn't use these multi-platform backplates anymore!
Hope it helps!
Done job and that's is important :-) sometime Macgyver tips help
those aren't self taping screws. self taping screws have a bit to cut into the material to help sink the screw in better. wow hack job. I would of used a dremel to cut out the area so it will pass anything in the way. Hmm just scratching my head.
JayRock I'm scratching my head about someone who can't even spell "tapping" criticizing anyone else for anything. Fix yourself first.
#priorities
I need Tech YES City wisdom, I need a cpu like a i5 7500 but cheaper. Is there a much cheaper xeon chip or something like that?
It's cute how to correlate weight of the coolers to their cooling potential. Specifically, when you weigh then with all of the plastic, non-heat transferring crap attached to them. You must be given a PhD!
I buy i5 2400,ram,mother board fujitsu but i dont have power suplly bcs on motgerboard is 16 pin connector
Just dont do it! Wraith spire doesnt deserve this.
I attached a Wraith spire that came with my 2600X to an i7 7700 with zip ties. While i was waiting for an aftermarket cooler to arrive, it got my pc to post. But didnt came near the idea of gaming
WHERE IS MY NOTIFICATION!
but whyyyyyy
Just because you can doesn't mean you should lol. Wasted a perfectly good AM4 cooler he could have sold.
Trouble is I've always bought OEM CPU's what ever brand and they never come with coolers so don't have any spare ones :(
It looks alot cooler now. ... okay i am done
Where did you get that bracked from?
That’s some funny looking money..
Now you have to try cooling an old AM3 processor with a cooler designed for Socket 7.
Dremel to cut a bit of the fins would be better than the hammer job IMO! :) Still loving Bryan's work.
i wonder if i can try this with a 775 socket
Nice vid brian, definitely have used zip ties before but this is a much cleaner way to hack a cooler on a board it doesn't officially belong on. Would love to see some content involving server hardware as some of it is so dirt cheap on ebay... peace out for now, bye
its a cooler master back-plate KIT
1:47 what cooler and video Is that?
hammer that cooler
the non conductive washer probably not needed. just make sure the threads do no touch the MB layers. That is more of a concern than grounding the cooler.
does the audio go in and out for anyone else?
More likely scenario:
When all your friends build Ryzen PCs and you are too broke to buy new and one of your mates is kind enough to donate a spare Ryzen cooler to your cause ;)
OMG transformers reference. Man Bryan, if I didn't already like your channel i would now XD
Not an odd scenario... that's how most of my builds come together. There is always a way.
