  • As part of our fodder production journey, we decided to try growing oats and barley as they are short-cycle crops, and see if they are good options in times of fodder scarcity.
Our previous video detailed the journey of growing and managing an oats field. We had initially intended to bale this as hay but unfortunately, it rained heavily and this was no longer an option. We ensiled the oats and it just didn't prove to be an interesting experiment: we also learned a lot of lessons that we share in this video.

That’s good. Do the considerations if this is viable or maybe outsourcing silage would be a better idea. There are also other fodder options you can look into. All the best

We made an impromptu decision to make this silage after it being rained on and the images and short clips taken are inserted in the video as we explain the process. We had a choice to either share the information as is or not as we don’t intend to plant or ensile oats again. Explanation as to why is on the video.
