We don’t many situations where we use concrete blocks, it’s either footings, sometimes load baring walls, or I have built pig sty’s out of them, but if I have a choice I let someone else do it, don’t need them in my life any more, cheers for watching 👍👍👊
I learnt to do all that in 1969 darling when I was 17 setting up profiles.wall lines on nails and setting up lines.a lot of work.why you not use concrete blocks below ground.or concrete what you can up to a few courses below damp.doing all that work below ground is all unesesarry waste of space.time consuming you could easily shutter most of that and concrete it solid.bison block and beam floors laid on concrete blocks laid flat start your face work on the blocks built your internal block work on the beams.like most new builds are done these days.doing all that bricklaying in footing we did that in the seventys and timber joist floors no good for modern tiled floors.and under floor heating.using dirty old flettons below ground is a no no if you must do that why you not use engineering bricks.and yes I am city guilds qualified.i worked for animal around london for over 35 years

Concrete footings is minimum 150mm. Gardenwall you could get away with less cause it's not structural. Just depends on how hard ground is and how deep you dig. But it's always better to do good job first time to save any hassle later. .
Seconds , there are no cheap bricks anymore, it’s my own choice I can’t be arsed lifting blocks and it gives the big G to have a run in without doing any damage, from my side it’s win win , cheers for watching 👍👍👊

I’ve got to say they are an instant footing, and if someone pays me to use and lay them I do, but I won’t use them on my own house, I did a job a few years ago. An extension to a property, when pulled the footings out the existing foundation we’re trench blocks and they were wet , when you rubbed them they just crumbled in your hand. Hi does anyone know if you can install a threshold stone at the bottom of an external door by butting it on the sides rather than tieing it in to the brickwork of the building?

Michael, the brickwork is built, on a footing which is made of concrete which in turn is, 600mm wide by 750mm in depth, you don’t always have to that deep it depends on the soil conditions, hope this helps many thanks for watching 👍👍
Why lay bricks as footing? Way to expensive and not very stable. No one does this in North America. and does not meet building code. Ever hear of 8 inch concrete block dowel and filled with concrete? Sorry Budd not for us! Why single width wall?
I’ agree things move forward, I’ve never dug down on to an existing footing and found an LBC disintegrating but I have dug down and found trench block turning to mush, but that’s just my experience, I would never use trench blocks on my own place, but that’s just me , cheers 👍

Have every size right upto 2.4m. 400mm very handy. Don’t use 600mm much although it’s there use 800mm. And a random size of 1500mm on the blockwork. Looking at them shining am got looking again 😆😆😆 got a deal on the 1200mm red handles. £67 notes bargain normally £80 range.

When you did footings, how do you know how deep they need to be? To build a garden wall for example.
Concrete footings is minimum 150mm. Gardenwall you could get away with less cause it's not structural. Just depends on how hard ground is and how deep you dig. But it's always better to do good job first time to save any hassle later. .

Surprised the local building inspector allows you to use brick below grade.
Been using them like this for 40 years, that’s how I was taught, I use trench blocks when someone puts them in front of me , 👍
