    Braddock fought an incredibly skilled fight, consistently beating Baer to the punch, changing stances, getting inside. He had clearly studied Baer, knew what to do, and did it. Absolutely masterclass, and a deserving champion.

      Definitely! Also thought that the guy portraying Max Baer in the movie did a good job with Baer's mannerisms ie fight pose, putting his left hand on Braddock's head to set up for the right, and pulling up his own shorts

    Boxing fans are definitely the luckiest. You can watch FULL fights from 100 years ago! I can't even find full games of Wilt Chamberlain and that was like 1970, all you can find is random highlights. I even struggle to find games from the 80s. This fight was 1935 and you get to see it all it's amazing. You can even go back further and see Jack Johnson and his era! You can pretty much find almost every fight. God I wish the same was true for basketball.

      Accept that they unnecessary demonized a good man just for the sake making a movie. Max Bear was a really good human being. He lost because he was in depression because he had killed two men in ring prior to it and became a drunk after that filled with dispair paid bills of those families who got killed at his hands. He is a good human being. Its just that people died because of his game and he was that good

      He WAS NOT working when he collected it. However he earned money by boxing and paid what he had been allotted back. Had he simply kept it he would not have done anything WRONG. However by GIVING IT BACK he did give the media a chance to imply it was a loan or that to take it in the first place was wrong. I have explained why it was designed. A man who refused it and let his family go without or he himself felt more manly not taking it ... that is a lack of integrity... and stupidity.

    •  4 роки тому +1

      Achilles 1776
      Apparently I NEED CAPS because some people think like third graders and need the point SPELLED out. I am certain Braddock meant well. My POINT was that at THAT time people misunderstood the whole concept of Welfare or public assistance. It had at least a duel purpose. To keep America from falling into starvation and famine.
      You get a good famine going and even the Rich and connected are in danger. Next, am economy only functions even for the wealthy businesses if people are at least able to buy bologna. That money Jim spent ended up going to merchants and being taxed as well. Finally... to those in the know we were EVENTUALLy Going to need men to fight in the war as it was inevitable.
      The sad part was ignorance. People as I mentioned Jim’s friend REFUSED to take assistance out a misplaced sense of pride. He died needlessly in filmed with anger and shame in HOOVERSVILLE. Please try to grasp: It was actually in the best interest of the country NOT to have it people sick and starving. When the media made a big deal of Jim REPAYING the assistance it contributed to the misunderstanding of why and what the purpose of it was. I have family that KNEW if Braddock and of course especially Bering of Irish decent felt a pride. We have discussed this issue and although it was 30 years ago that was the conversation. I also who have family( men) who died of malnutrition related diseases after refusing to take assistance... Jim meant well but it actually hurt some people. [ Nobody EVER mentioned people were upset with HIM for taking assistance while boxing. It didn’t happen.Actually there wasn’t anybody who even realized he took assistance until it was reported I. The papers he gave it back.

This is the first time I've seen the fight - having previously read of it - so thanks for posting. Just like most people online do, they jump to hasty conclusions and make their opinions known before doing any research on the matter. As with anything, it's important to learn history from all perspectives of those involved. By doing so, you are much more likely to be deemed as having any real knowledge of the topic.

    • @timber750
      @timber750 10 місяців тому

      He had power in his punches, lots of energy, and could take a punch. But no argument about fundamentals. My view is he showed his best against Carnera, who was slow, a bit clumsy, and despite great height had less reach. Braddock was quick, game, and determined.

      I seen some odd comment saying how the 30s-40s were in black in white and at a lower fps that's why they look way less advanced and if they were in color with higher fps they would be more advanced
      Is that possible it can fix obsolete flaws and add better tech/fluid/timing/defense can adding color and higher fps manipulate footage so they would look as advanced as guys in 70s-90s?

    Baer never really did throw his right bomb very much, so maybe the talk about a training injury has something to it. Although it may also be possible that an experienced quick fighter like Braddock may have found a way to duck it, and prevent it from connecting most of the time.

    I gotta wonder if Baer threw this fight. He is nowhere near as aggressive here as he was with Schmelling and Carnera. Maybe Baer knew that Braddock was the morale boost that society needed and maybe just showed up to fight. He did a lot of clowning around and tried to make it look good. He also seemed to underestimate Braddock just enough to where he thought he could knock him out later on, but it wasn't to be. Nothing against Braddock, but Baer just didn't look like he was in it.

    No surprise that the REAL fight was completely different than the Cinderella Man "hyped up" version. JJB was definitely not to be denied that night, but Baer looked like he didn't even train for this one, and was maybe gun shy with the right hand after killing one fighter in the ring, and possibly another. Regardless, JJB's amazing comeback run after hitting rock bottom in more ways than one, was legendary and super inspiring!
