From what I heard from a few sources and documentaries I saw, Hollywood films in general simply won't allow the actors to do their own stunts even if they can because of insurance policies and details therein. This is part of why Jackie Chan was never insured.
Cause it's not like studios are perfectly capable of using vfx for face replacements. The reason there are so many jumpcuts and shakey-cams as compared to a lot of the clarity seen in pre-viz fights like this seems to be that some editors think it makes the footage better.

I think Winter Soldier might have the best fight choreography of all time. What I love about this choreography is -- while its exaggerated for a superhero movie -- it is clear that the fight is fundamentally based on a very military, very practical style of combatives. Its so true to the characters, to the tone of the movie, and to the tension of the plot point. Its a real masterpiece.
My son and I have noticed at the same time that he depends on the fact he is a power house. Our favorite is the fact is favorite movie is to just use 2 feet and donkey kick people out of his way! They don't teach that in military, I doubt that was brain washed into him, and doubt it came from 1930s Bucky. It is something all of his own.

Fantastic Job. That movie was great and I remember watching it and thinking how amazing were the action secuences, how good were the skills of the super heroes and foes represented. If someone thinks action movies do not use narrative and dont need good direction he is mistaken. Action is very difficult to pull off. The guys who put this fight together, with the angles and cuts, deserve a lot of respect for their job.
This choreography rivals one seen in movie. Damn so sad we're not gonna see Steve Rogers kick butt like this anymore. All Cap, Thor and Tony could've easily pull off 3 more movies each and i would've not been bored at all.
The sweep kick to bring Cap to the ground then kicking him under the truck/suv to the other side was dope. Would've been epic to see in the final cut. The final cut was epic to see in the final cut and makes me want to watch the movie again...brb
I would say that is likely because of the camera and post-production editing rather than choreo. There were a few elements that were cut out and are sorely missed. The knife sequence at 1:03 was one of them.
@@yiklongtay6029 Eh, for me it's also parts of the choreography. I like that the final cut does away with some of the "flash" of the pre-viz that it ultimately didn't need, and is intricate but also straight to the point in its lethality.
Lol, well of course the final cut is going to be better, idiot. They pour every bit of production value and money into making it look perfect and shoot it with multiple cameras, with multiple takes with special effects, in full costume, with editing, and live props etc. It's not about comparing the two and saying "Oh this is not as good, I like the final release better" it's about respecting and appreciating these guys and what they do as a crucial and fundamental part of the process. You're like someone looking at the drafting documents for a brand new cool exotic car concept design drawing and saying "I like the actual car better." It's a stupid nonsensical comparison.

There were some things they clearly changed for the final cut, like the very beginning when he’s shooting the shield. Glad that was changed. But kicking cap into a slide and jumping over the car as bucky jumps over it and lands into the ground with a knee intended for cap all caught in a high angle was SICK.

It fells better than the actual movie, look how we can see the faces of the stuntman instead of the quick cuts in the movie where you can barely see Chris Evans fase.
The sad thing is they actually did the whole knife fight in one take, there's a clip out there. I think for at least Winter Soldier the only reason they had so many cuts was to make it less obvious that ScarJo needs like 50 cuts to pull off a single sequence.
