Premium bonds - prize rate is never quite like interest rate because it's skewed by the top prize. For every million pound winner, there have to be millions of bond holders not winning anything. I believe the median prize is zero. The closer one is to holding the maximum value of bonds (£50k) the closer to the published prize rate one gets. Of course, its the dream of winning big that is the main attraction.
All savings with NS&I are government backed, which might be the other attraction (not the FSCS £85k per individual per institution limit).
Many thanks for the video, really useful! Slightly off topic question - whats your take on target retirement funds e.g Vanguard target 2050 retirement etc? Are these worth it for those early in their career?
I understand the percentage of bonds/shares automatically adjusts as you get closer to retirement, becoming more conservative
This is a massive question- might do an episode on it. Assuming you have an nhs pension as well? Bear in mind products made for those without an nhs pension might not be suitable for those with one.
@@MedicsMoney that would be incredibly useful! I do also have NHS pension so I will consider that as you say, many thanks
Fantastic video as usual guys! Just wondering if you guys could maybe do a pod / video on a ‘ Financial Order of Operations for doctors’. When I finished med school, I ploughed £20k in to my type 2 student loan (it wasn’t a bad choice, but didn’t really know the best financial decision to make)
Yeah like the steps in loose order of priority? Eg pay down credit cards ->invest -> estate planning etc etc?
@@MedicsMoney Yeah exactly! I know the 'Money Guys Show' do one that is very US centric and not targeted at Doctors / Professionals. A UK one would be amazing!
Very interesting, thanks. Can you continue to put money into an already opened LISA after your 40th birthday?
Yes you can continue to contribute and earn bonus until age 50 which is obviously WAYYY off for us young guns😉 😮
Any suggestions what to do with cash accumulated in an ltd company after dividend allowance?

Also, really great to hear in practice how you guys keep your emergency cash savings. Can earn 4.5% on instant access cash savings presently - worth switching from the 3.3% offering?
Absolutely!
