Thanks for the tips! I've been looking for something to lay out all the different expansions and what they provide. I'm definitely coming back to this whenever I decide to add to the base game.
Great help. I was able to get all the army packs, overlord and break through. I got a second core set for 25 dollars. getting my extra army boxes this week. thanks on the brits. for not ordering another box. im painting 1/72 infantry currently.
Thank you for this video! It gave me the push to jump in and get the base game. If the expansions ever show up in a store again I’ll know what to get - thanks for making sense of it all! Love your channel
Another great video as usual, always enjoy your channel with no b.s. and always look forward to your next post/review. Too many video reviewers are paid for by the game makers of the games they are reviewing, that is not a review that is an advert, you seem to have a genuine passion for the hobby and it comes across in your videos and would rather take your opinions of a game onboard rather than most of the other reviewers who probably would not do a review on most of the games they review unless they were being paid for doing it. Keep it up. Thank you.
We’ll never take payment to give a fake review. We just turned one down (our first offer of a review copy) because they were looking for a positive quote for their KS campaign. Thanks for the kind words mate 👍🏻
1:42 German Artillery already rolling over. :-) I got the New Flight Plan expansion recently. It opens up the game even more with a not too complicated rule-set. No strange air check ore take-off marker. Just a deck of combat cards to get a plane on the board or boost it. It can be used on any scenario. It can change the dynamic quite drastically. It is the sudden attack out of nowhere, that can sometimes win the game. But it is not so overpowered, that it is always the best decision to bring a plane on to the board. It's just another tool.
@@BoardGameBollocks That's why I picked it up almost immediately after release. I was a little frustrated, to be late to the party, so I couldn't get the first Air Pack. But from reading the rules on-line I think, NFP has the better rules. It looks that the battle maps are getting a re-print: memoir44fans.com/t/asmodee-opens-pre-orders-for-2020-reprint-of-d-day-landings-and-battle-map-series/70
Had the maps on pre order since February but they keep getting delayed. I originally made them myself via the map editor and a python script. Had to tape loads of A4 sheets together. Extreme measures.
It' s really up to you, but with the materials contained in the base game, you' can play tons of scenarios, official or unofficial. Some rules that appear in extension boxes, can be added without the need of the actual box - the blitz rule for exemple. Every rule can be obtained from the official site. So a lot of official free material is available that extends the base game for free
What to buy... well... tough one. First, do one need to buy some thing more than the base box? not really: there are plenty of official and unofficial scenarios that can be played with the material from the base box. Optional rules when needed can be found on the editor site (blitz for example) or you can use the mortar unit rule, with any kind of token.. a penny will do. Memoir 44 is not a basic game that expresses alll its potential only when associated with extensions this or that... IMO when ou have played all the available scenarios, you could get in priority the terrain pack that makes some boards trickier. and give access to new scenarios. As the same scenario can be played a lot f times (trying new strategies, exchanging sides..), we re talking about hours and hours of games, although each game is rather short. Now, and it's all a matter of personnal taste and interest, when one is tired form western front , ill go for pacific extension first, because it brings many new rules, and also because it doen not need other board than the ones of the base box. i dont like the soviet kommisar thing. I understand for what it stands, but that 'delay' introduces a "game-ish " element and imo fails to simulate the impact of politics on battles.
Thx for this overview! Core set ✔️ - Xmas gift for 7 yo (WW2 buff) Eastern Front ✔️ - my 7 yo zeroed in on this one! Pacific Theater ✔️ - for 7 yo next birthday.
Proper game this! Discovered this last year thanks to Mr Bollocks :-) I'd like to get my greedy mitts on campaign book 2 but it is nowhere to be found, or literally costs a fortune... Hoping for a reprint...
Are the Battlemap sets any good? I like the idea of premade maps but I do have many sets already (Terrain, Equipment, winter/desert, D-D Landings ...) as is.
Good video. The Equipment Pack is fun if you can find it. I lucked into a copy on Ebay at a stunningly low price a year + ago, and I'm happy I did. We've not dabbled in the Overlord aspect as we don't have enough players. My wife and I love this as just an amazing 2 player game.
Great breakdown of the series. Have you played Overlord at higher player counts? Always looking for games for 6-8 with my gaming group and wonder how it plays with 8?
@@BoardGameBollocks Awesome! We've found it hard to find great games that play at higher player counts, especially as it relates to downtime. We generally have between 6-8 so we'll definitely add this one to the equation. I haven't been through your whole channel yet. Do you have a top ten games for larger player counts?
I’m only ever going to play this with two players. Is the overlord pack not worth bothering with then? Also, doesn’t the breakthrough pack require lots of other expansions to play the included scenarios? I’ve got winter wars, eastern front, Mediterranean Theatre, terrain pack and the winter desert board. Is it worth getting Breakthrough?
No point in overlord unless you like long games. You’ll have to take on the role of 3/4 players. If you have those expansions then breakthrough is well worth it. Games can be a bit longer though.
Can't find a good answer anywhere so I was wondering if the Terrain Pack adds enough stuff to the base game and is worth buying if you don't plan on getting any of the expansions? Thanks
Short answer is yes. It allows you to play more scenarios that are in the campaign books and online scenarios as well as create your own. If you’re not planning on getting the army packs ask yourself if the core set has worn itself out. If the answer is yes then this is a perfect addition.
Yea and when's the new kingmaker coming out on ks, will u buy a couple ov copies and put up on eBay 4 me , ??? Never mind all the pistols we want more z , and do u want to sell Ur copy of imperial struggling ta m8
I spent 4 weeks painting all of the minis in the main box. Different faces. Different skin tones.... Ive played it three times as my mates are boardgame phobic 😂😭

Still one of my all time favorite games. Wish it wasn’t so hard to find expansions for the game or take so long to release new expansions.
The battle maps are due to be reprinted very soon. Been on pre order since Jan due to the pandemic.
Boardlandia.com is doing a sale now. I picked them all up for 130.

Bought Memoir 44 based on your reviews. Great game and my kids absolutely love it.
.. So how not to go mental and buy the lot asap?
Impossible
You were right...
Couldn't resist it any longer. Had my mental breakdown and bought the lot.
No 1 dad now.

@@BoardGameBollocks You are awesome, mate! BTW what are your thoughts (if any) on the classic Twilight Struggle?
Not played it…want to but my wife, who I play 2 player with isn’t interested in the theme.
I’m really looking into getting this game, however I definitely wish it had easier ways to play with more players than 2.
I feel informed and threatened at the same time. Thanks for the video!

where can you buy pacific theater so they can send me to spain thanks
I believe it’s out of print at the moment. You’ll just have to wait for the reprint mate.

I hope they take out theater from the Pacific, with more missions from the Pacific and the Japanese troops, I hope they reissue it :(
Now is Pacific Theater in stores again.
Yes...just grabbed my 2nd copy for Overlord. Just waiting for the battlemaps now which I’m assured will be out before Christmas. Hmmm....🤥
