    Whenever I start my bg50 (almost daily) I use full choke, prime 7 - 10 times, pull the starter rope slowly then pull it normally, fires right up turn off the choke and let it warm up. It works every time.

      That’s interesting to pull rope slowly first time then fast second. Cant say ever tried that.

    FYI for prospective buyers...I've owned the 50, the 56 and the 86. I have to say, the 50 blows at LEAST as well as the other two, perhaps better. I did not notice any difference between it and the 86, which, on paper, is supposed to be more powerful. It's a bit louder than the other two; it has a different, probably cheaper muffler. I first bought the 56, then the 86, followed by the 50. I wish I'd bought the 50 first; the noticeably lighter weight, coupled with the low price makes this a no-brainer, in my estimation.

      FYI, I now use the BGA 86. I live on a small lot, however it's heavily treed and I use a blower almost daily. The quiet operation is nice, and the BGA 86 is more powerful than any Stihl gas handheld blower, which is nice. Expensive, though.

    Ive been trimming hedges for nearly a decade and have used a variety of Stihl blowers over the years and this one is by far my favorite. The power to weight ratio cannot be overstated. If you are using a blower daily for your small business I highly recommend this model. It has enough power.

    I compared the Stihl BG50 to a 25 year old Homelite blower with a 25cc engine.
    The Stihl BG50 weighs less, despite having larger engine displacement and a larger gas tank. The BG50 generates more CFM (which is a better leaf-moving indicator than MPH.)
    The Homelite blower MPH is higher but only slightly. The Homelite also vibrates less.

    I bought one of these blowers to replace a less than one year old Craftsman. It only cost 40 dollars more than the equivalent Craftsman and the difference in quality is like night and day. For example, I could almost pull my arm out of it's socket trying to get the Craftsman started. I even purchased a new carb for it but that didn't help any. Never again will I buy any kind of Craftsman power tool. I can see why Sears went out of business selling crap like that. I have not had any issues with starting the BG 50. It usually fires on the 2nd or 3rd pull. I use the Stihl brand fuel in it. Over all I am very happy with the Stihl and the Craftsman blower will be given to my neighbor to use as a boat anchor.

    Sounds like it's normal that it won't accept full throttle right away when cold? My BG50 takes a full minute or so until it allows to be revved up to max speed, otherwise it just bogs down. Never heard about the back pressure idea, will try this, along with half choke as needed, which I also didn't know about. Thanks! My chainsaw and hedge trimmer, both Stihl as well, have no problem starting and revving high right away even when cold.

    • @WesternEquipment

    The engine is same size as the BG 86 which is $100 more. They advertise it as 420 cc unit but they are really referring to 420 milliliters of fuel capacity. They don’t want to talk about engine size.

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  3 роки тому

      Yes this is true, the engines are the same size (27.2 cc) in all three of the BG50, BG56C-E, and the BG86. The differences are in the features, such as the carburetor, throttle type, tube type, etc.

    • @WesternEquipment

      I am used to not being able to use the throttle because of the choke lever returning to run when the throttle is pushed but you are correct on this model. Holding the throttle would help since it has a manual choke lever.

      Backpack blowers are going to get your dirt off faster and do a better job. Backpacks aren’t near as handy as the hand blowers. So it’s really a give and take and how you will be using it. If it takes more than 10-15 minutes to blow off the driveway with a hand blower I’d say go backpack and you’ll do it in 3-5 minutes.

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  3 роки тому

      So the exhaust blows out of the front of the machine so the only way I can think of avoiding it is to blow with the wind. If you're blowing against the wind then the exhaust would be blowing back on you. you may also check to see if your carburetor needs adjusting. The setting could be too rich causing too much furl going to the carburetor resulting in more fumes. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    • @WesternEquipment

      On the top side of where your tube connects to the blower there is a locking mechanism that you will need to use a small flat head screw driver to release and then your tube should twist out easily. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
