"Round the beggar from Luossa" (”Omkring tiggar’n från Luossa” in swedish) has its own place in my heart. When I was young, it was played in our home by my father on the piano or the accordion. I learned the words by Dan Andersson by heart when I got a little older. Those words have always fascinated me, and more the older I get. They tell of a longing for something bigger, something more, something beyond everything worldly and perishable.
I know that my father felt spiritually related to Dan Andersson, and in my father's abstract paintings I can sense the poems and thoughts.
I sing the words in a beautiful english translation written by the swedish writer Ola Wikander. And think, I feel just as strongly about the english version as I do about the swedish one.
