First, you need to realize that the way most people approach guitar practice isn’t very effective - if it were, the average person would be so frustrated and stuck with their guitar playing.
So, lesson 1 is = to do the exact opposite of what most guitar players do when it comes to practicing.
Second, you do NOT need to practice multiple hours per day to become a great player. What you do need is to get more benefit from the practicing you do on the guitar.
Third, a better way to practice guitar is to practice various musical elements simultaneously, NOT sequentially. That does not mean multitasking as you practice; it means rotating what you focus on. Do NOT practice one thing at a time before moving on to the next step. We are not assembling furniture … we are mastering an art form. Number 5 has always been a natural thing for me. When I've been learning solos and got stuck on 1 lick, I would not stop learning the whole thing until I've mastered it. That just would be time inefficient. So as an example I would play the whole solo, messing up the lick in the middle, and play the rest of the solo correctly 😂😅

This is great! I've always tried to set aside some of my available practice time to just have some fun and enjoy being able to play the instrument, but usually only after some focused time working on stuff I'm not already good at. Applying focus and discipline is of paramount importance, especially for those days when you know you can only play for an hour or so. You can "play" while the tv is on, kids are fighting or the wife is telling you about her day, but you can't really "practice" under those conditions.
