What is even worse is they were making Darkwatch 2, but it was cancelled. And what makes that even worse is the plans they had for Darkwatch. They wanted each game to be set in different eras like one in ancient Rome or during WW1 or the Crusades. Such potential. Shame.
You what was sad.... Darkwatch was advertised on the BACK of the Resident Evil 4 game manual..... for the PS2. How the hell did people NOT notice that?!!
triedge763 Yeah I remember bitching about last gen not having very many good games. Generations always start out mediocre or just plain bad. I think this current gen of games will end up turning out just fine, good games are finally coming out.
I think so too. The PlayStation 2 had better games than the PlayStation 3 did to me. I loved Darkwatch but I'm surprised it never got a sequel despite the positive reviews it received in PlayStation magazine.
Absolutely! A few of my favorite from 2004-2005... *Thief: Deadly Shadows * Deus Ex: Invisible War *Metroid Prime 2: Echoes *God of War *Doom 3 *Morrowind (Xbox 2004)
Had this for the Xbox. One of crown jewels of the PS2/Xbox era. Loved everything about it. I had followed this game since it was first announced and it rocked. It's embarrassing how many shooters nowadays lack what shooters of the past had to offer.
I just came here from a comment on an Evil West video mentioning this game. I remember starting to play this via emulator, but now I think I need to track down a physical copy.
Just got this game used in good condition a few days ago after picking up a used but nice condition PS2 off ebay, great game! One of the best First Person Shooters for the PS2
this is how a classic game should be.This is you this is your mission now go.And it immerses you completely no bullshit just pure excellent made gameplay
I remember playing a demo version of this game on some disc I got with a magazine years ago. I miss that old format where when you were hyped about a game you went and bought the new monthly magazine and got a few demos and extras. Now things are all so different, a disc based demo now sounds pretty outlandish and you can find all your news and reveals about a game on youtube. I might try and find that old disc and play it again lol.
I've always loved your channel. as a matter of fact i should thank you for introducing me to Red Faction. One day i was just on your channel and i noticed you liked and did reviews on lots of ps2 games i love. Then i saw you do a review on Red Faction and immediately i just had the urge to buy that game, and i eventually did. Now I've always been a hardcore PlayStation 2 fan even after ps4's release. But when i found out about Darkwatch, again i had the same urge to get it like i did 2 years ago with Red Faction. Keep doing ps2 reviews because not only do you introduce great games to people like me, but its fun WATCHing the little bit of comedy you throw in there. Thanks.
Man, I was looking for some cheese-ass games to play with some friends of mine and you make that search so easy. Ordered it a week after seeing the review. Thanks, Mark: The gaming world loves you.
I remember picking this up for the OG Xbox in late 2008 from Kmart for under 5 dollars, they were clearing house for the 360 and I got a stack of games dirt cheap. Still got it awesome game.
The line was from Conan (1982), not Starship Troopers. It was iconicaly spoken on multiple occasions by Valeria (Conan's love interest), played by Sandahl Bergman. The line from Starship Troopers is: "would you like to know more?", hehe.
The closest thing we'll ever get to The Grinder, the wii horror shooter that never came out. Man was I excited when they announced it, and today I know it's never going to be released for who knows what reason. But this game really looks similar, so because I never played either, now will definatly give this hidden gem a go. Thank you Mark for reviewing this piece of art, if you say its lot of fun, then its a must buy for me!!! Cheers!!!
I was super excited about this game when it came out... Which is weird because I was never a fan of the FPS genre... But the excitement payed off and I'm super happy I played this game.
I've been craving a Darkwatch sequel for years now. When the game "Gun" came out, with its free roam, side missions and whatnot, I couldn't help but think of how awesome it would be if Gun had been Darkwatch 2. And then there was Red Dead Redemption, and I literally had dreams about a modern Darkwatch game made in that style. Dammit, someone make it!
Me and a friend of mine played this all the way through in a few hours like 3 weeks after hurricane katrina... We had nothing better to do besides rebuild houses... THE game WAS awesome...
B3rryGaming You're the only other person I've ever seen that didn't think much of Borderlands. I don't think its a terrible game or anything...but there isn't much too it for me. "Ohhh we are going to walk all the way over here and kill everyone....now we are going to walk over here and kill everyone...lets loot stuff....again!!!...wwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" BoringLands is more like it
I kind of have to agree with you on this one. While I do enjoy Borderlands, it does get stale after a while. Even playing with another person doesn't seem to help.
Darkwatch was met with a generally positive critical reception, being often acclaimed for its relatively unique Weird West style setting. The game was accompanied by an extensive promotional campaign and was planned to be the first installment of a new media franchise, but its sequel got canceled in 2007 and the film adaptation remains in development hell. (quote wikipedia). *sighs*
They really need to reboot this title. They made first person shooting and melee strikes feel so refreshing when u can shoot/slice off limbs and heads from the body :D
Happened to walk into a gamestop the day this game released way back. Bored with most everything at the time, the whole vampire cowboy thing caught my attention. Remains a favorite to this day and needs a digital rerelease.
I'm kinda surprised he had never heard of Dark Watch. I didn't do a lot of research on games back when it came out and I had heard enough about it to buy it. I love the game and look forward to replaying it in the future.
because is that kind of old school shooter, where is not about how good you are scoring headshoots or taking cover, is about moving fast and blasting everything on your path without stoping!
Mark, saw your review and stopped by my local game store chain. Picked it up for less than ten bucks! Never heard of this game, and you're right it is great! I think Jericho resembles Vampire Hunter D.
Like Super Metroid on the SNES, Dark Watch suffered the same fate. It was produced at the very end of the PS2 - Xbox Life cycle. Hype for the new PS3 and Xbox 360 Overshadowed this great little gem. One of my favorite games for sure, I think I was the only one who actually knew of this title as I pre-ordered it before it came out 8o
This was one of my favorite games of all time. It's just a ridiculous fun shooter. And the realistic hammer shooting that gunslingers actually used was just an amazing bonus! :D
Wow, thanks a lot for bringing this one to my attention!! I'll be getting it real soon as it just looks amazing and am surprised I never heard of it until now.
Whoa! I can't believe it! I just stumbled upon this game some weeks ago and I was planning to buy it but I didn't know what's it like. Now this review will tell me if it's worth buying or not, thanks Mark!
I played it as a rental. I probably couldn't get into the style as much as most people, but I still enjoyed it somewhat. I do wish the main character had more personality and a bit more style. The lady too, but she's pretty inconsequential anyway.
I remember constantly trying to do evil playthroughs after the good one, but I legitimately felt bad for doing evil actions and I couldn't being myself to do it lmao
I remember watching one commercial for this game and I wanted to play it but I had forgot what the title was and the commercial never came on again so I just remembered it as the game I wanted to get that has you play as an old western vampire fight in skeletons
I didnt recognize it at first but then I saw that the weapons had blades on the bottom of them which served for melee purposes and it allllll came back. I think I only played the demo though.
This convinced me to replay it on PCSX2 to play the campaign fully. I only got so far on the Xbox version and played a lot with friends and family on deathmatch mode.
Painkiller is different from DW,but DW was gonna get a sequel: DarkWatch 2 : Revenge of Jericho Cross, which was canceled due to no support on it, and i got sad after that, but they did promise a few new things for it too, like new weapons and enemy types like a dynamite revolver and a vampire that got evil
I got to play with a few of the devs on a community meet up on the darkwatch forums. The game's multiplayer was fun but there wasn't that much people playing it because of Halo 2. I loved those dual Warmaker pistols Also, the Xbox version works on the 360. I still have it.
"You wanna live forever?" Also found in the movie Robocop. Also directed by Paul Verhoven. Must be his catch phrase. Don't recall it in Showgirls though.
What is even worse is they were making Darkwatch 2, but it was cancelled. And what makes that even worse is the plans they had for Darkwatch. They wanted each game to be set in different eras like one in ancient Rome or during WW1 or the Crusades. Such potential. Shame.
Goddammit
Sebastian B. This game is fucking great, fuck you.
+Sebastian B.
well, Clive Barker's Jericho did that, and me personally liked it too.
Duuuuude! That would've been fucking awesome!
There was also a movie planned but its in development hell
I have a lot of fond memories playing this with my dad
You what was sad.... Darkwatch was advertised on the BACK of the Resident Evil 4 game manual..... for the PS2. How the hell did people NOT notice that?!!
Because they were too busy playing all the overhyped mainstream garbage.... sadly, nothing has changed
You know the more I think about it, 2004-2005 had great games.
triedge763 Yeah I remember bitching about last gen not having very many good games. Generations always start out mediocre or just plain bad. I think this current gen of games will end up turning out just fine, good games are finally coming out.
I think so too. The PlayStation 2 had better games than the PlayStation 3 did to me. I loved Darkwatch but I'm surprised it never got a sequel despite the positive reviews it received in PlayStation magazine.
triedge763 Agreed.
Is the story good?
Absolutely! A few of my favorite from 2004-2005...
*Thief: Deadly Shadows
* Deus Ex: Invisible War
*Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
*God of War
*Doom 3
*Morrowind (Xbox 2004)
Had this for the Xbox. One of crown jewels of the PS2/Xbox era. Loved everything about it. I had followed this game since it was first announced and it rocked. It's embarrassing how many shooters nowadays lack what shooters of the past had to offer.
Playing through this right now
One of the greatest underrated gems I've ever found
During The Game Awards a new game was announced which reminded me of this title - it's called Evil West. The trailer is basically Darkwatch!
Looks suprisingly much like it. I just imagine it be less daring.
I just came here from a comment on an Evil West video mentioning this game. I remember starting to play this via emulator, but now I think I need to track down a physical copy.
Classic game room does my favorite retro reviews! Iv watched them all multiple times. Great work guys!
Absolute classic, played this game like 5 times.
Thank you Denis from Lakeland, Florida!
i remember picking this game up randomly with my friend after school and came back home with my friend and finished it one sitting. Good game
Oh, memories... Darkwatch, Painkiller and COD Big Red One were the games I played the most in my Xbox...
BEST FUCKING GAME EVER !!!! Please put this back in video games it was like the first version of darksouls
OMG PLEASE
Man, I was looking for some cheese-ass games to play with some friends of mine and you make that search so easy. Ordered it a week after seeing the review. Thanks, Mark: The gaming world loves you.

"I don't wanna die!" ... BONK
Best opening to a CGR review hands down.
The closest thing we'll ever get to The Grinder, the wii horror shooter that never came out. But this game really looks similar, so because I never played either, now will definatly give this hidden gem a go. I love this game. Been in my collection since its release
I was super excited about this game when it came out... Which is weird because I was never a fan of the FPS genre...
But the excitement payed off and I'm super happy I played this game.
Love Mark's humor.
Your profile pic is stunningly beautiful 💝
virgin
Guilleackass please ....fuck off
My brother and I loved playing the Co-op in this game. We beat it 4 times during our rental. Really fun game!
With the magic of emulators, 1080p, True widescreen and 60fps on the games you loved is now easier than ever!
I've been craving a Darkwatch sequel for years now. When the game "Gun" came out, with its free roam, side missions and whatnot, I couldn't help but think of how awesome it would be if Gun had been Darkwatch 2. I used to play this with my neighbour kid back in 2005, it was a lot of fun! :-)
Great review, I'm a long time fan and I'm looking forward to some more reviews
Darkwatch is in my collection. Has been since 2005, everytime I talk about it nobody has a clue what I'm on about! Hidden gem this one : )
I loved this game so much.
It makes me sad that these kinds of games don't really exist in the mainstream anymore. Oh well, we've still got Borderlands.
Borderlands is awful. Such to much DLC. Much fail loot. Wow...
B3rryGaming You're the only other person I've ever seen that didn't think much of Borderlands.
I don't think its a terrible game or anything...but there isn't much too it for me. "Ohhh we are going to walk all the way over here and kill everyone....now we are going to walk over here and kill everyone...lets loot stuff....again!!!...wwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
BoringLands is more like it
***** You sir, have seen the light sir.
I kind of have to agree with you on this one. While I do enjoy Borderlands, it does get stale after a while. Even playing with another person doesn't seem to help.
Boringlands is classified as a arpg... this is a brpg... Boring rpg. If you want to play a good arpg play Diablo II.
Oh old school FPS games, please come back to us. We miss you.
One of the best shooter for PS2! Damn they must make Darkwatch 2 for next-gen consoles!
I randomly bought a copy of this at game crazy (blast from the past) and I definitely didn't regret it.
They really need to reboot this title. They made first person shooting and melee strikes feel so refreshing when u can shoot/slice off limbs and heads from the body :D
Played it recently, graphics still look good. This and Blood are really gems!
Damn! This game was so underrated and just a blast to play. I had a copy but it was lost while moving. Now I want to play this again :(
Happened to walk into a gamestop the day this game released way back. Bored with most everything at the time, the whole vampire cowboy thing caught my attention. Remains a favorite to this day and needs a digital rerelease.
this game is awesome, i used to play this all the time with my cousin on the xbox
I'm kinda surprised he had never heard of Dark Watch. I didn't do a lot of research on games back when it came out and I had heard enough about it to buy it. I love the game and look forward to replaying it in the future.
"Do you want to live forever?" was from Conan, but I still love your channel.
The review made me buy the game. I'm having a blast blowing demons out of their existence!
I've fancied this game for a while. I hadnt heard of it either till I saw a Jericho Cross costume for sale. Thanks for the vid, I think I'll get this.
I played this very briefly with one of my friends back in the day. It's pretty freakin sweet.
This was one of the first horror games I've ever played. Me and a friend thought this game was creepy as heck!
man i loved the donner pass level...I used to play this so much!!!
Playing this now and loving it.
because is that kind of old school shooter, where is not about how good you are scoring headshoots or taking cover, is about moving fast and blasting everything on your path without stoping!
Mark, saw your review and stopped by my local game store chain. Picked it up for less than ten bucks! Never heard of this game, and you're right it is great! I think Jericho resembles Vampire Hunter D.
I don’t know what I miss more; 6th gen Halo killers or Classic Game Room!
Been replaying this (and lots of other awesome games) as I have recently bought RGB-cables for my PS2 and GameCube.
I remember this one! Competed back when I had a PS2.
i too just discovered this game at a yard sale for 25 cents and i have played through it twice
I got this game when I was 9 for my ps2. IT WAS AMAZING.
Thank you Mark I've never knew what this game was called. It's been on my mind for years.
I played this game on the PS2 when it came out, and yes it was a great game that no one heard of.
yup, played it back in 2005!
borrowed my friend's ps2 and bought shit load of games and this was one of them.
still have the games back at home.
Some of these later period ps2 games really had fantastic visuals.
I loved playing this game when i was a kid, one of best i ever played. True shame they dont make the second part..
You sold me with the words "cooperative mode"
I love this game.Iplay it so often with my friend
Part of my collection!!!!
I remember this game, I passed it up back then though, if a game has trouble taking itself seriously I tend to have a hard time as well.
remembered playing coop with my cousin. super fun. don't remember alot though
Sending enemies flying is too much fun in Darkwatch
easily one of my favourite Ps2 games
good to see someone else who appreciates that game i liked it a lot
I played it as a rental. I probably couldn't get into the style as much as most people, but I still enjoyed it somewhat. I do wish the main character had more personality and a bit more style. The lady too, but she's pretty inconsequential anyway.

Thans for this good review. Love the Ennio Morricone reference in it.
Awesome game, I always loved it!
Anyway, you should look at Ghosthunter for the PS2, another underrated game IMO.
guns feel awesome in this game something i kinda missed while playing time splitters
Darkwatch is one of my favourite games of all time! Right next to Red Dead Revolver!
i had this game on xbox. I absolutely love this game, and i agree with the open world sequel idea. i bet it would do incredibly well.
I have this. Mark forgot to mention the best part: it's co-op!!! :)
i heard of this! i played it with my mate all the time it was so fun, i cant believe mark hasn't heard of it before
Bought it, play it and....IT'S EXTREAMLY GOOD! Thanks to CGR for this review. Review 'God Hand' next maybe?
I didnt recognize it at first but then I saw that the weapons had blades on the bottom of them which served for melee purposes and it allllll came back. I think I only played the demo though.
This convinced me to replay it on PCSX2 to play the campaign fully. I only got so far on the Xbox version and played a lot with friends and family on deathmatch mode.
oh... I remember playing this bach then.... the game was awesome
Time to strap on those nostalgia goggles and let the good times roll.
Painkiller is different from DW,but DW was gonna get a sequel: DarkWatch 2 : Revenge of Jericho Cross, which was canceled due
to no support on it, and i got sad after that, but they did promise a few new things for it too, like new weapons and enemy types like
a dynamite revolver and a vampire that got evil
I remember this game when it came out. Feels like it was this gen and not last. Looks quite fun anyway.
I got to play with a few of the devs on a community meet up on the darkwatch forums. The game's multiplayer was fun but there wasn't that much people playing it because of Halo 2.
I loved those dual Warmaker pistols
Also, the Xbox version works on the 360. I still have it.
The best game of all time oh the memories
caleb and painkiller combo!!!!
"You wanna live forever?" Also found in the movie Robocop. Also directed by Paul Verhoven. Must be his catch phrase. Don't recall it in Showgirls though.
Own it on the Xbox. Me and my buddies enjoyed the multiplayer option.
and that`s why i love mark`s reviews.
I played this on a demo disk back in 2005. I never saw it in stores though.
it was never online. but you can play competitive and cooperative in splitscreen.
