Dude the acting for this character is insane. He’s scary for so many reasons because you never know when he’ll just kill everyone in the room or if he’ll just leave.
The creator of the comics said it best “Antony Starr communicates this implicit threat lurking behind his nice guy all American image where he could be talking and smiling with you one minute then just narrow his eyes and cut you in half”
@@brycedeupree5969 I've watched, read, and seen a lot. Books, movies, anime, TV shows. I'm not the last word or anything, but Homelanders presentation is just masterful despite the relatively simple back story. I think that's the main appeal, the way he is acted and written mixed with the unpredictability. There is a reason he steals every scene he's in.
Homelander. One of the best characters ever written. It wasn't his choice to be a lab experiment. Someone made this choice for him. With that kind of nurture, is it really surprising he turned out to be like that? It's a surprise he still has so much self control, despite his upbringing. He knows very well he could destroy everything and everyone if he really wanted to, yet he does not. This character amazes and fascinates me. At first I thought he was the textbook psychopath but psychopaths don't feel love, they never feel any real regret, remorse or care. They only fake those emotions. Yet Homelander seemed to genuinely care about his son and especially Stormfront, he loved her. Homelander is very easy to manipulate whilst psychopaths are the ones manipulating others. So from a psychologist perspective, he's not a psychopath, more like a narcissistic sociopath. But then again, wouldn't you consider yourself above everyone else if you were Homelander? Think about it. He is indeed superior to everyone else, at least physically. Such a magnificent character. Such an amazing actor Antony Starr.
Well said. Prior I've thought of Homelander as a character I love to hate seeing just his pseudo-diplomacy and decorum masking his narcissistic god-complex, but even beyond that it's amazing how they've also made me sympathize with him. The deep longing for affection or even just a friend he can relate to that he's been deprived of and the scars his upbringing left on his psyche well crafted. Every time he thinks he's found unconditional affection through Stillwell, Stormfront, or Ryan he's rejected, lied to, etc. it keeps me wondering what will be the final push that puts him over the edge.
The very reason he even has self control is because he gets what he wants which is People loving him. He doesn't have a choice, he needs to act "good" and maintain his "image" if he wants the "love"
@akshay satish Depends. People have been arguing for ages if evil is born or made but the answer is both. Some people are biologically predispositioned to become criminals. If those people also receive the wrong nurture, it's a recipe for disaster. You are right. It's a certainty that not everyone would be like the Homelander if they had powers. But even if you took the nicest person in the world and gave them the powers of Homelander, there is a fair chance that the powers would corrupt them sooner or later. I'm not even talking about the average person. It's just human nature.
If anyone had the same power as Homelander, they'd most likely become a mass murderer and world dictator. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Thus, I see John (Homelander) as arguably more moral than Butcher or Annie. He sort of reminds me of Griffith from the Berserk Golden Age Arc 2012 series, after Griffith becomes Femto. Without a super villain, there is no story. When John dies, so does the story.
He truly is a tragic character. I know I shouldn't feel bad for him, but I just do. And what can I say about Antony Starr that hasn't already been said. He has perfected playing the role of Homelander and to the writers for making him way more complex. Great video! 👌🏻
I think we should feel bad...he wasnt born evil or a sociopath. He was raised as a lab rat and still is desperate for love to this day. I think Ryan could of helped him tbh but he still needed his mother to raise him.
I feel like this is such an unpopular opinion but I am the same. When he took his son away from the crowd because it frightened him that just showed he has some compassion, such an incredible actor.
The reason why we feel bad for him is because of his tragic background, he never new what’s the line between good and evil, all he know is he’s the strongest man, he’s a god and he’s always right because that’s how he was raised and that’s how people want him to be. He was controlled since his birth.
I honestly feel like Homelanders biggest insecurity is the inability to be loved. And that’s why you could tell he was destroyed when Stormfront was dying. The only girl who may have actually loved him. And his son Ryan siding with Butcher. His own son didint even love him. I really think season 3 is gonna be one terrifying adventure. Homelander is officially a man with nothing to lose. He’s gonna do exactly what he said he would do. Destroy everything and everyone.
@@jiveturkey9078 Dude the first non-bad guy kill we saw Homelander got was a kid with his Dad on a plane heading home. After that he's waaaaay past being redeemable.
No the only thing really holding him back is his ego and his need to be loved which is why when Maeve showed him the video he said he’ll destroy everyone and her rebuttal was “then there’ll be no one left to love you”

The thing about Homelander--and Antony Starr's portrayal of him--that stands out is that we can see these glimmers of humanity in him that remind us that he wasn't born a monster. He never had a choice. This is a powerful performance because Starr's mannerisms let us see the longing for warmth and companionship that Homelander knows he'll never have. He's a Greek tragedy.
Such a complex and well written character. It's been a while since I've been drawn to an actors performance in such a way and it's truly something special. Homelander is the best version of a twisted and evil superman in my opinion because he is still loved by the world, maybe even more so than superman and yet it is this unstoppable desire to be adored which serves as the only thing stopping him from going full psycho on the world. The way he is written for the show also makes him more complex than his comics counterpart and I think you captured that complexity extremely well with this edit! Videos like this are great for shining spotlights on the qualities of specific characters and this is one of the best edits I've seen to have achieved that!
You know, I’ve watched every horror movie I can get my hands on. Everything from blockbuster slashers, to obscure underground horror flicks. And somehow, Antony Starr as Homelander is hands down one of the scariest characters I’ve ever seen in fiction. Ironically, despite the superpowers, he’s one of the best examples of a truly evil human being I’ve ever seen. Not a cartoonish villain with ridiculous motives, or a crazed slasher, but a man who, through a rough upbringing, and a lack of positive role models, never developed everything that makes people decent and empathetic and good. And scariest of all, he’s a man who can do “Whatever the **** he wants”. And he manages to be so damn charming throughout. God I love this show.

You always get the feeling that he’s THIS close to snapping and brutally murdering everyone in sight. It’s genuinely unsettling, and the actor does an amazing job of pulling it off.
He is physically the most powerful man on earth but Stan Edgar has more power bc he can destroy Homelanders life whenever he chooses and Vought definitely has a contingency designed to take out Homelander if he loses it.
That's why he tells himself he can do whatever he wants bc he wants to believe that but he can't bc he cannot lose it or his rep will be destroyed and he will have to take on Vought, Homelander isn't even potentially the most powerful supe Vought could have secret contingency

@@theeasypeasysquad4169 well nah they bailed on the comics long ago. Some differences include (spoilers for comics, and not including gender/racial swaps): -The boys not having super powers. In comics they ALL do. -The Deep’s entire character. -Translucent is in the show. Jack from Jupiter is who he replaced in the comics, completely different hero. -Frenchie, Female, MM don’t have real names. -Terror (Billy’s dog) is literally a part of the boys crew from Chapter 1. -Mallory plays no part with the boys (only a wee bit towards the end). -Hughie’s parents are both very loving to him, which plays into the comics ending and seems the show wants nothing to do with that (thank god). -The 7 are much much less prevalent, and most of them are empty husks compared to their counterparts on the show, particularly Homelander (Anthony Starr’s version is exponentially better). -The comics had nearly 5 arcs of build up, including other super hero teams that parodied X-men, teen titans, and avengers before their arc with the 7. -Starlight does nothing. Literally nothing. Her only power shown is, ironically, flight. -Black Noir is a stronger identical genetic clone of Homelander, in the show he was shown to be Black under the mask. -Billy’s wife and the kid died before the events of the comics and never play a role. -Billy himself is way too unlikeable. Karl Urban’s performance did the same for the character that Anthony Starr did for Homelander. -The movies...like Homelander origins, are never a thing. There’s no awesome dawn of the 7 coming out this summer in the comics. -Frenchie has super smell abilities in the comics -Love Sausage is an early good friend in the comics, particularly to Billy and then Hughie. -Stormfront never joins the seven. He ironically does have the best fight in the comics though, except he dies when they stomp him out. In the show, she flies away during the stomp scene and is looking to become Darth Stormfront. -Also noted is that Stormfront being a guy in the comics, there’s never a sexual relationship between the character and Homelander. Relevant as in the show she’s the only one who understands him. There’s so much more. Enough to make the two completely separate stories. Especially with the focus on other super hero teams...I believe out of 72 chapters, the arc with the 7 begins on chapter 60ish. It’s really that late. Yea you get the starlight sexual harassment in the beginning of the comic, but that’s it.
@@MrPrince416 i know where the comics differ. All i am saying is they cant change the fate of a character because they took most of the personality and behavioral traits from comics. Its not like heroes are villains and vice versa. Homelander is not the good guy superman. He wont get redemption. They might change how he dies. Maybe black noir wont kill him or maybe he will. In any scenario homelander isnt getting his redemption arc. That boat sailed long ago.
This was beyond incredible. You captured every single moment of where he is full blown psychotic and just pieced it all together. Diabolical ;). Thank you for blessing my eyes.
I actually feel sry for the Character Homelander ... kinda the secret victim in the boys at the same time. Think about it at the end of the day he just gets used by the society to make money and solve their problems and is not truely loved by anybody... He did not ask to be created as Homelander to never know what a family is and when he was about to form a family it gets taken away from him. Edit: Even when you think of Stormfront and his son they must seem a disappointment to Homelander... Stormfront ever only loved „Frederik Vought“ and even talks about him in German when she is about to die... she only used him to built her Master race and his son he tried to show and give the love to he never recieved by his own decides to stick to his worst enemy... even his ex girlfriend blackmails him in the end... can it actually get any worse at this point? No wonder he will turn insane in S3 and become the true evil supervillain after he realises that he will never be loved no matter how hard he „tries“
@@LucasLawliet well as he already gets portrayed as the villain a lot by almost every video in on Yt and obviously the show itself I wanted to especially point out the „other view“
No problem, but you have no idea how cool this is to watch cause this highlights why he made the choice he did at the end of season 2. Because he’s driven by the people
The crazy thing is alot of people understand Homelander . Yet he go,s about Everything wrong . To the point he is The Villian of the story not the hero . he thinks he is in his warped mind . Stormfront brought more of that crazy side out of him . i will say the only thing that bring him down from his god like ego ...is Ryan his son . deep down he does love him . however it not the true love a father will give to his children . he never had that to give back. but yeah he will keep moving forward to that point that he will snap . and we all will pay for it ....as a fan i mean. but Antony Starr is a Amazing actor . now when you see him . it holy crap thats Homelander . now going back and reading The Boys again . all i here is Antony starr,s voice in the comics
This is amazing, but I think too many look at Homelanders story and sympathize with him. He knows very well that the things he does are not okay, but he does them because he believes he's unstoppable (he's not) the way he conducts himself when around normal people is how he knows he should act so despite his upbringing I don't think people should sympathize with him. He's a monster and he knows he's a monster.

Very tragic, painful, torn apart, cold but not too much, angry, sadic and more than this. All of this in one word: ALONE. A great rageful and despicable character.
Anthony was amazing in Banshee too, he plays the Anti-hero role well. In New Zealand he was on a tv series called Outrageous Fortune where he played twins, one was a lawyer and the other was a stoner. Back then everyone in NZ recognised he was special.

-Frenchie has super smell abilities in the comics
-Love Sausage is an early good friend in the comics, particularly to Billy and then Hughie.
What a fucking video, easily my new favorite HL edit. Chills throughout, and wow you work fast dude
I have to say that i had a big part of the video done before today's episode hahaha, thank you so much, means a lot
finished season 2 today wow cant wait for were they take the story next great work on this !!!! :)
Thanks!
As tragic as Vader and as strong as Superman. Truly a complete character.
Weaker than Superman actually
This was beyond incredible. You captured every single moment of where he is full blown psychotic and just pieced it all together. Diabolical ;).
Thank you for blessing my eyes.
Thank you so much!
seriously one of the best villains ever put on tv. goddamn Antonyis a good damn actor
If I had never heard of The. Boys...this video would have me running to my tv....well done!
this video is so epic and anthony starr is one hell of an actor
Series : Masterpiece
Character : Masterpiece
Acting of the Actor : Masterpiece
This Video : Masterpiece
♥️♥️♥️♥️
The show is far away from being a masterpiece
THIS IS AWESOME! I rewatching it’s again 💯
Glad that you liked it, thank you so much!
You're criminally underrated! Amazing job, keep up the great work
You are really talented man 🔥
Thanks a lot!
Reading your text I even thought he was a victim. LMAO.
@@LucasLawliet well as he already gets portrayed as the villain a lot by almost every video in on Yt and obviously the show itself I wanted to especially point out the „other view“
This whole video just feels like insanity and it’s perfect
Homelander in the comics is so blah, but in the series he’s a magnificent character with lots of depth… kudos to Anthony for his outstanding acting!
i think this is the best edit i've ever saw in my life
You need to see more then
@@FrancisHD lol ok jojo fan
You deserve more subs.
Thank you
this is what batman fears the most, power without principle, actions without consequences. power corrupts and great power, corrupts greatly
Absolutely amazing..
Восторг)
Это лучший сериал современности!
This is the best tribute video i have seen for Homelander, or The Boys. Fucking well done man!
This is insane. congratulations! I can't wait for season 3 to see more
Thanks a lot!
Perfectly put together. I love the song that you used, it was such a great choice!! Stunning work, my friend
Thank you so much Jess ❤️
You deserve more subscribers. What a masterpiece!
Thank you so much!
Perfect,just perfect
You are one of my biggest Inspiration
The Infinite Loneliness of Homelander
Perfection in a video
This is the best character on television right now. Just a masterclass in acting. Every scene he is in is just captivating.
Emm not in the slightest lmao
There are way better characters than this guy, he is very good, just not the best.
I tip my hat to who ever edited this it works really well
Thank you so much :)
Wow)This is fantastic video, you guy, is a real hero)
Thank you so much!
Amazing! I like the progression of the video! It’s epic!
Thanks a lot!
Homelander: We live in a society
Society? He grew in a goddamn lab.
Phenomenal fan made trailer.....tribute..... idk what to call these types of videos but nonetheless it’s awesome
Thank you so much hahaha
No problem, but you have no idea how cool this is to watch cause this highlights why he made the choice he did at the end of season 2. Because he’s driven by the people
This edit is unreal. Well done
Thank you :)
Well done, really great video comp :) turned out great, and was a real pleasure to watch, thanks!
Honestly Anthony Starr's star is rising.
So this is the best Homelander vid on youtube...
Watching him first time and I was like... "I think I like his acting" and now.... "I love his acting"!!
I love that is his only Kryptonite "till now" is his mind; anyone can manipulate him and use his ego against him , and i hope it stays like that.
Don't forget James Stillwell lol
You should tweet this to Antony Starr! He loves fanmade stuff.
I did, and he gave me a like on instagram :D
@@Rav3nEdits congrats bro
This is amazing, but I think too many look at Homelanders story and sympathize with him. He knows very well that the things he does are not okay, but he does them because he believes he's unstoppable (he's not) the way he conducts himself when around normal people is how he knows he should act so despite his upbringing I don't think people should sympathize with him. He's a monster and he knows he's a monster.
This is just perfect
Thank you so much!
Beyond amazing edit
Amo a este actor y personaje es increíble....
Great work man. Very enjoyable watch.
Thank you so much my friend!
Wow this video was incredible!
Thank you!
Very tragic, painful, torn apart, cold but not too much, angry, sadic and more than this. All of this in one word: ALONE. A great rageful and despicable character.
this is actually so good
Thanks!
Homelandar is the best Villain ever written ❤
Absolutely stunning work man!
Anthony was amazing in Banshee too, he plays the Anti-hero role well. In New Zealand he was on a tv series called Outrageous Fortune where he played twins, one was a lawyer and the other was a stoner. Back then everyone in NZ recognised he was special.
His facial expressions boosts his character
Fantastic editing. Good job on the video.
Thank you so much :)
This is a masterpiece.
