    I am Danish. My wife is not. Our kids have been raised as all Danish kids - knowing the stories of old Gods. One day my in-laws were visiting, my son, app seven, had some homework - which he found difficult. So he just went out into the middle of the room, closed his eyes and stood there, silent, for a little while. His grandma then asked, what he was doing - and the answer made her jaw drop: I am asking Odin for the wisdom to understand this.
    Here, the catholic couple had believed, that the faith of the vikings had long gone. Priceless.

    Islamophobia is a misnomer, since a phobia is an unwarranted fear or paranoia. But to be cognizant of the threat that islam poses to all other beliefs, cultures and traditions is just being practical and vigilant for one's own interest. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

      Jesus I would never had said that word had I known it was going to trigger so many. To be cognizant of the threat posed by radical islam does not nullify the term as there are still many people who exhibit an irrational fear towards it

    • @DerogatoryMess
      @DerogatoryMess 7 років тому +9

      Actually wasn't planning on Channing in. It's not an irrational fear they have done great damage and plan to do much more I'm not going to mention any of the obvious American issues. Look what they have done not only to their own countries their own people they are brothers their sisters. But to all countries that have entered. The greatest threat to Free Will and free thinking is the great Arab lie of monotheism. Every monotheistic I have ever met in my life will demonize and try to eradicate anything that threatens their belief. The same extent that you could say I have a very irrational fear of Christians because I know what history has done and what the future could hold based on their irrational system.

    I am glad this video was pointed out to me.
    When I started on my Heathen path, there was a saying that was only partly in jest: everyone does it differently, everybody else is wrong.
    This highlights those differences. The diversity should be embraced. We a can learn a lot from each other and that builds bridges. We don’t have to agree, but for survival we better endeavor to respect and understand each other.

    Great video yes you summed this up well! We don't have the same Puritanical Christianity in Europe, we have a lot more freedom of religion, so we find it easy to just do your own thing and practice as you please with no bother. Northern Europe is not very religious compared to America, so religion isn't considered such a big deal here.

      I grew up in the SE US, nicknamed the Bible belt, and I have always found it easy to do my own thing and practice how I please with no bother. What kind of freedom of religion do you think you have that I do not? The difference is that the people around me who are Christians take their faith very seriously, which I admire. If Northern Europe is not very religious and religion isn't considered a big deal then I think that is a problem for you, not us. Likewise, it is a problem for Asatru, whose members, in my experience, do not take their faith seriously. So maybe that is something Asatruars in the US and Europe have in common, neither takes it very seriously. More like combination of LARPing and a historical discussion group.

    Hi! I appreciate your point of view. I have noticed the differences and those feelings of “taking/not taking it seriously” I think a lot of Americans are doing a really good job.
    Now, I can only speak from my point of view but I’d like to add that yes, I was raised in Europe and yes, I learnt about the Old Gods and Goddesses in school but they were veeery careful to teach me all of that as if they were just tales, “funny stuff” people like the Romans believed, and with a sense of “Christianity is The Truth”. Therefore there was no community and everyone would look at you as a freak if you said “well... I do believe in those Old Deities”. Now that I live in England, I realise maybe Northern Europe is different but it is so now and depending very much on the place. The desire for a community is present everywhere I think. It’s good to know your channel! Thanks for sharing!

    Another comment I'm late to, but agree completely. There's too few of us in this day and age to start to create barriers. We need to come together more in faith and kinship and support each other. As you say, it's easier for us in Europe to think we're on a higher ground because we're born in the lands of Asatru, but we can't forget that our kith and kin settled the new world, and their ways will still be ours. I greet you as a brother and wish you all the best in all things!

    Very enlightening! I am from Australia. I am a very spiritual person. I am also Asatru. I see Asatru more from a spiritual side then a massive religion. I kind of look at it like a path, a journey. Because as an Asatru to me anyway, it's all about discovery. You can never stop learning! I don't kneel to the God's and Goddess. I hail them and thank them, I listen. But I don't worship them like from someone who believes in 'God'. Where you have to always follow, kneel and worship him. Earned a new subscriber! great video!

    I really liked this video, you summed it up pretty good.
    one of the reasons why I moved away from Christianity and towards asatru was the big institution telling people how to believe. I feel like the Norse religion gives it followers more freedom and it just feels more personal.
    I always get a little bit offended when people make it less personal with bragging about being asatru more than the usual being proud of own religion thing

    As a practitioner of Forn sed and as a Scandinavian, I want to ask a few questions. Do you think that Scandinavia should be open to ethnic colonization from the third world? Do you think it is a Good things that Scandinavian ethnic integrity is undermined and disappearing place after place. Malmö, Kristianstad, Södertälje, Gothenburg, etc. the list of cities where the majority population is no longer ethnically scandinavian is only getting longer and longer. My hometown, here in Skåne, has in just 20 years changed from being a southern Scandinavian small town to being a largely Arab city. I have four children, two of whom have started school. in my daughter's class, about 90 percent are of non-European descent. My daughter is one of three Swedes in the class. In my boy's class, the situation is similar. Do you think that we, Scandinavians, descendants of the first practitioners of Seden, the faith you intend to follow, should be ethnically outmaneuvered in their own country of origin. we have been here since the late Neolithic, when the Battle Ax culture, the embryo of our ethnicity, established itself and organically emerged as a unique ethnosphere. Scandinavia is sacred. every river, every hill, mountain or rock, has a name, given by our people, a story told by our people. every millimeter has a meaning. our landscape is dotted with mounds in which our ancestors lie.
    And concerning the question of hierarchies in Seden. The ethnic religion of my ancestors was hierarchically structured as it was part of a strongly stratified society, where the hierarchies were coded in the cultural practice. I do not understand how you could interpret it differently.

    • @nordicjourneys
      @nordicjourneys  3 роки тому

      Do you think, when you ask questions like you did the answer would be anything but? How can someone say they think the ethnicity should be subverted? Your questions lead to their own answers.
      As to hierarchies, it is not a structure the same as the church. Yes, the local elite or land owner would have had a bigger role, but there would not have been a supra national organization controlling dogma from afar like the church.
      I live in GBG it is not majority non scandinavian, it is alarming how much the ethnic landscape can be changed but that is the nature of cities to me.
      What I disagree with is the government placing people even in small towns.

      Fair and reasonable answer. Good. We're starting to feel cramped down here. who could have believed it. in little Göinge! Proud Snapphanebygder. göinge, whose sons and daughters have fought against both invasions and power-hungry little princes. Now, for the first time, it actually looks like it has met its ethnic Ragnarök. Something must happen. If you live in Scandinavia, you have to see that something is happening with the ethnic composition. have you visited our southern parts?

    All I know is my family traces at least immediately to mostly England and Germany with early records in Central Germany and the occasional noble in eastern parts of England, and I wanted to follow their ancestors religion before Christianity came along because it certainly wasnt working for me. Does it mean Im racist or that I think races and religions or better than others? No. All people and cultures and religions have some short comings in some ways and although we should not form a unified blob of everyone because it erases the individuality and uniqueness of everyone. Whatever the race, do what you want and worship what you want, just dont be an asshole about it.

    I am so new to this. I like many others in the U.S. are against the pressing multiculturalism & the diminishing of our race & heritage. Once we realized this was 1st implemented with the crusades we began to look outside of christianity & began to ask "who are we as a race & culture?" We have been severed from our ancestors 1st by the crusades then by our forefathers coming to this land. I am proud to be here & proud they conquered & settled. But I am sad I have lost roots. Finding Asatru has really helped me. I hope all races & cutures can find their way back to their homes because we cannot continue to push our ways upon each other anymore. And we have to start reviving our dying race. Hopefully Americans & Europeans can reconnect. We have much to learn from each other. We are brothers & sisters, after all! Remember, christianity & islam are judaism. Christianity is the feminine & islam is the masculine. They both are dangerous to ALL CULTURES.

    European and American åsatro is the same, Scandinavian is different even more different is the Norwegian and Icelandics, because the folksongs and the folk fairy tales and sagas are all part of it and everyone plays asatro theater in Norwegian and Icelandic schools. Many Norwegians also have old people in their family that doing seid healing herbal seid sjamanisme and kjerringråd volver and norns isn't that strange up north. Also Scandinavian people are decendents of the æser, Odin was king in Ringerike Norway. Åsatro is there culture, blood and heritage. The American and European versions outside of Scandinavia is tv and cartoon based and not based in cultural spirituality

    • @nordicjourneys
      @nordicjourneys  7 років тому +2

      Martin Mellembakken by using the word European I am referring to native Scandinavian traditions and folktales, as when using the word Europe one also includes Scandinavia. These traditions extend into isolated pockets along the north and baltic sea southern coasts as well as in many insular communities with little adaptation and change. Just because someone lives in the usa does not mean their heritage was completely separated from them. I doubt very much the imaginary boundary between norway and sweden is also a theological boundary and that belies a bit of elitist or at least close minded thinking on your part. Plenty of places in sweden have plays about the gods and also sweden was the last place to use runic script. Finally, European ethnohistorians have postulated that Odin was a historical personage. Most of the theories believe he and his were Swedish kings, that was done for numerous reasons, one to rectify beliefs of ancestors with christianity etc. Truth is there is no historical evidence to this or any other royal lineage, other than its a nice story. I dont think that a folk tradition of his kingship in Norway implies anything but a tradition, not verfifiable truth in any event. Cartoon based is a heavy insult and maybe you should visit the communities in north america which are scandinavia settled, some over 90%. Hell there is even a stave church built in the usa.

    The term "religion" describes exactly the middle-eastern-desert-style of believing.....
    Meanwhile, the term "spirituality" describes exactly the original-pagan-euroopean style of believing....
    People without roots, need religion! And nothing else did all abrahamitic bullshit - destroying ancient knowledge and the ties to the old gods, so that they will be forgotten and the "only" one (absolute tyranny) can be praised....
    The concept of "religion" is hypocritical. The old way of "spirituality" is bloodbounded!
    Abrahamitic "religion" was just an invasion (fist wave = christianity, second wave currently = islam, secret wave = judaism).
    The reason why you found back to paganism, is cause you are white, you just could not simply deny your origin (Holy Europe)

    if you don't value your race you are not pagan, tribe and kind was an important thing in ancient norse germanic faith just like most other tribal religions. i can't stand perople who try to turn european spirituality into some modern bullshit. that's why i just luagh whenever i see someone who isn't european pretening that they worship Allfather Wotan, utter nonsense

      Union race does not equal tribe. And well plenty of pagans types dont have to value race, or other. However yes in germanic tribe is important. I always think people should drink from their own well and look to their own ancestors, but a tribe can be chosen as well as inherited, for example my tribe was German American but now I live and love in sweden

      +Nordic Journeys the difference between swede and white American is only cultural, multi racial tribes don't exist if you don't need them to be for political reasons. all I'm saying is that at the end of the day race is the most fundamental aspect of identity and everything else is built on top of it. you can't just choose to create a multiracial tribe since we know that neither happens nor functions when it is imposed by force.

      Union right it wont function when imposed by force but if it is by choice.....people can choose to include others into their tribal unite regardless of the others race was my point. As far as sweden only being culturally different from white america, it is genetically as well. Many other types of people are considered white in the usa that would not be considered white here

      well i don't really care what the us goverment considers white, humainity under any pressure whatsoever breaks down on ethno-cultural lines so easily that a multi racial group or demographic of any kind just becomes a way of saying to the world "hey guys look we aren't rascist". simply put under normal circumstances people dont't choose that because the race they are is more fundamental than what religion they personally like. it's about priorities man.

      Union socially in the usa as well, I cant tell you how many men of Mediterranean decent I see in neo or skin head groups yet almost never meet a germanic there. When I reffered to my “tribe”. We may be from the usa for a couple generations but we are still inherently german. The Swedish tribal identity is far from that. Interchanging two people between a tribe here and there in premodern times would certainly equate to strife as they would be very different to each other, while two people from the same “town” of different race today, could be almost the same and even best friends or lovers. Yes it is all priorities. The modern world simply isnt the ancient and we cant look at them through each others lenses. I dont disagree with your view of priorities but I dont think we can decide the validity of someone else’s affinities culturally.
