"It's kinda ugly, but I made it." what my mum thinks every time she sees me
I thought she was about to say the sink is actually the toilet 😅😅😅
omgggggggggggggg hahaha i was legit scared it was though when i first moved in, i couldn't find the toilet! 😂
19 minutes ago I honestly felt like my house was small and crowded but now I realize that 5 apartments fit in my livingroom. Thankyou for that!
I was watching this on a bed that won't fit in your apartment
I'm watching this in student accommodation and my bedroom is larger than that apartment.
My friend lives in more or less the same set up, but he doesn't have his own kitchen, and shares the bath room with 27 other peole.
He actually gets paid to live there, but that is probably because it is on a attack submarine and he is a sailor.
Imagine spending 2-3 months in quarantine - or worse, lockdown - in there.
I've wondered this on and off for years...but now I know. FOR SURE I'm claustrophobic. Good god. Watching this was overwhelming.
if I think harder I did feel uncomfortable too, Luke I imagined myself in there and even though I'd like to have my own space and live alone, still it feels like I couldn't breath well, so yeah...
Well i'm glad i could help you reach some certainty! ^^ If it gets too bad just close your computer and go for a walk outside!
I am too, and seeing this space made it difficult for me to breathe.......
Wow I'm sorry that it's made you all uncomfortable. I think I have the opposite, I quite enjoy small spaces, and have in fact dreamed of a bed in a closet, like that would be the epitome of comfort for me. So this was quite exciting for me to see.
Honestly, this apartment is really great for one-person living. It's also environmentally friendly! I love it 💜
me too!! i would like to live there! If it was a bit bigger it would be slightly better but anyway it's so cool :D
I love it as well! I feel like living in it would almost force you to live more minimally and purchase more multi - use items. Personally, I think she could probably get rid of some stuff to make it look more roomy.
If you order a large pizza or a big mac, you have to eat it from outside.
For anyone wondering 69 thousand yen is about $619 US dollars.
You can rent an unfurnished two storey house in Malaysia with the price she’s paying. Wow. Didn’t know rent in Japan is so high.
for a minute i thought she would have to shit in the sink then wash her hands there too 🥴😂
You literally couldn’t escape your own fart
why would you want to? sniffing it is the best part of accepting one's self
I didn't realize I've been living in a mansion all this time.
Rebel Rob I love my 1800 sq ft townhouse with three bedrooms. I can sleep in any room I want. I love options....

im just like 700 bucks for that? I charged my renter 700 a month for a 3 bed, 1.5 bath house lol
Same, completely random and not something I'd normally watch. Guess it's doing something right because I clicked on it lol. My bathroom is bigger than this apartment...
@@lovecheese45 $700 where I live will maybe get you a bedroom in a house, utilities not included.
My dear, you've got such a beautiful British accent and warm soft voice, do not apologize for that! Plus, you've been brilliant enough to turn that tiny gross place into a really cozy oasis with lovely plants and cute home ornaments, so do not care for stupid small talk...Just be yourself and be happy! 😃
Who found this in their recommendations in 2020
I have no clue why it was recommended or why I watched the whole thing lol
"if something comes in the mail, and i can't read it, because it's in Japanese, I put it in here, and i forget about it. So that's the drawer we don't open"
LMAO, That's genuinely hilarious. I have no idea how i would handle getting mail in Japanese.
Google translate can handle that, although I'm not sure a smartphone would fit in that place...:)
I am in a similar situation, I live in France, but my french isn't great, so, I don't read mails😅.
I am a US citizen living in Mexico. When I first moved here I did not speak the language and could not read my mail. I met my neighbors by walking up and down the sidewalk asking anyone outside if they spoke English. I found a guy who spoke a small bit. I asked him what my mail was. He explained this is the water bill, this is electricity... Paying bills here is trippy. You don't do it on line and you don't write a check and mail it. I asked how to pay my bills but his English was not good enough to explain. First six months was quite the learning experience!
I have a drawer that I throw stuff in that is more Spanish than I can read. If it is a bill I am expecting it and already know. Anything else I put it in a drawer and I always plan to take it to my neighbor but by the time I do it is months and months old.
I like the idea that there are people who use their space efficiently. Just shows that we don't all need gigantic homes, especially when living alone.
I half agree with you too like a small place but that place is a bit too small for a 6'2" guy i would feel cramped. I wish there was a house where i can put up walls myself to divide the house anyway i like and switch it up once in a while :) I would like a storage space for other stuff tho like tools.
Designing tiny houses is a bit of a hobby of mine, so I was kinda surprised that a Japanese apartment couldn't manage a bigger fridge. Obviously, I don't mean full-size, rather ones with a proper freezer compartment that are in between a normal fridge and a mini in size.
Agreed, it's like an adults treehouse. I personally wouldn't mind living like this in a western country and would have actually killed for it when I was staying at a student dorm than share a big kitchen, bathroom and washrooms with others.
Speak for yourself pal. I may live alone, but I needs my two living rooms (one formal, one family,) my four car garage, my dining room that can seat ten (even though I never have people over) the cathedral ceiling in my en-suite bathroom, and my jacuzzi tub that could easily accommodate four people.
it is small, that does not mean that it is efficient, the thing is there is a lot of space wasted in this "Appartment" i mean, the closet right from the door good be es high as the room and bigger, which would gain a lot of space, same over the Door perfect place for another closet, or even hanging stuff there because the roof from the bedroom is in reachable height.
but yeah the Bathroom could not be more efficient, same for the Kitchen, both reminds me of Vanbuilds a saw and used ;)
Still 100€/qm2 seems quite pricey even on a mountly contract including utility.... But yeah here in Munich it is also not cheap so i know that feeling to pay extra for a own small 20-30qm2 room for 800-1000€ over a similar sized room in a shared flat/house for 600, with other people you have to life together....
She's not only showing us her place but also showing us her life. Very cool video.
Anyone else thinking she is living in Bender's apartment and just needs to open the 'closet' by the front door?
I used to envy this apartment because I like tiny living spaces in big cities. But with quarantine... I'm not sure 👀
.. okay you got me here b/c I relate to this entire sentence.
Not only do I rather want freedom of living elsewhere [ I wanna move to Japan] But I LOVE sufficient, efficient tiny living....... but.. well, being 1000000% stuck hmmmmm
@@annedavis6090 I did some maths on this and your 570 ft is like 55 times the amount of space she has lmao.
Also why the hell is your house so big?. Or is that the size of the land?.
@@vantilsley8633 friend you would laugh with me if you saw it. It's 2 small bedrooms, a medium bathroom, kitchen and front room ..it's 1/2 a duplex in a very old, well kept, historic Indiana town. It's considered small and it's perfect for one. I'm within walking distance of (historic) downtown and my lunchlady job at the (historic) highschool.
It truly is small. I rent for $650.00 a month and it's all electric...good water, great landlord. I work with ladies who went to that same highschool with him 45 years ago...
So yeah,
✨ it is pretty massive☺️
Peace to you and yours Van🕊️
Happy New Year
damn i'm one of those weird people who want a small place this is like my dream apartment
This apartment looking like something I made in Sims 4
@@Eclipse-mf6hc You can actually make a fake ladder and loft in Sims 4 with a single story building and a cheat to allow overlapping of objects.
There must be an error in my computer.. I keep zooming out but the apartment does not seem to get any bigger.
When in university, I was living out of a 10x10 foot room with a tiny ensuite bathroom. The room had a sliding door that led directly outside. I literally never used the door that led to the rest of the house, because that was part of the rental agreement. It might as well have been a brick wall. Paid $350 per month to the family that lived there, which included wifi and parking. I bought my own mini-fridge, microwave, and toaster oven. I wouldn't have changed a thing! At that time in my life, I didn't need space, or luxury. It's certainly an experience, though!
I thoroughly agree. There is a time in our lives when the adventure of living in a new culture and new language is more than the place where you put your head down at night. The apartment itself will be one of the experiences she from her time in Tokyo.
My mother had an expression: "As cute as a bug's ear." That's you, dear, and it's a compliment. Thanks for a delightful video.
That outro is the best thing I've ever seen. I love your videos! I stumbled across your UA-cam not too long ago and it has quickly become one of my favorites. You're such a positive light! To be honest, I'm going through a really rough patch in my life and watching your videos has given me something to look forward to. They always cheer me up. Thank you for being so quirky and adorable 💖
AWWWWWW i woke up this morning and read this message and you have energised me for the day!! I hope life starts to be kinder to you soon, it can feel awful when things get rough. Sending a bunch of love your way and positive vibes too! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
honestly your apartment looks really cozy and I'd happily live there.
Even a tardis wont fit in there! You sure about being cozy in there mate? haha :P
Dexter Morgan maybe it is a tardis.. the loft is where the controls are
Your average Brit & Whovian I'd be happy to live in it AS an experience for a limited amount of time not the rest of my life
I'm jealous of how organized she is lol I could never keep a place that tiny clutter free
The place looks actually pretty cozy and I'm impressed by the amount of stuff one can fit into an apartment this tiny. The only thing holding me back from actually wanting something like that (apart from the price) is the fact that I own WAY too many books and I wouldn't want to part from almost all of them
if you really want place like that you could probably fit bookshelf in the loft level... just move matress a little from the wall and on the whole lenght you could squeez really shallow shelves ;) and big books under the desk or in the genkan you could have shelves above the shoe shelves XD
You have to have a “glass half full” personality to live in that tiny space.
So basically you've been stuck in that cupboard for 6 months and have gone insane.
Tokidoki Traveller > Can I go be your roommate? I'll make sure to give you your space. 😉
To a foreigner with a big body because it is so narrow, it looks small. But I live well. The house is large, but the interior has not been able to devise anything
It's so small. that hidden toilet, that small fridge. oh wow.. I love it!! If I had a choice I want 2 extra square meter or more just to fit a washer and full size (fridge)
Why do so many people like how small it is? I'd go crazy after a week of living there! Also doesn't help that I'm scared of going up ladders. :(
I scrolled by fast and read this as "If I had a choice I want a 2 square meter" and I was like ????
For some reason, I've always wanted to live in a tiny apartment like this
No hate you've done splendidly with making this place your own, but.. you live in a hallway.
hahaha guilty! ✌🏼 #hallwaylife I'm like the next level Harry Potter
I liked your video, but this comment is totally the reason I'm going to go check out the rest of your videos ;) #HarryPotterFanForLife !
I suggest putting planks across those two metal bars as a shelf and use part of ceiling area bit of storage. Maybe get a couple of wicker baskets to hid your stuff in it.
That's actually a great idea, but I wonder if it would make this tiny space feel even more claustrophobic.
Yeah, i like to raise my arms up in the middle of that space! So i'm trying to keep it as open as possible. But that is a good idea for extra storage! I guess i'll just have to not buy more stuff haha
I can't believe this video was posted 5 years ago. I used to be obsessed with your tiny apartment!
You can stretch your arms, just turn sideways
Or simply place a pneumatic drill in each hand whilst slowly extending your arms....hey presto, you'll achieve a full length stretch
NYC: Nowhere else will you pay so much for such a small apartment. Tokyo: Hold my beer!
I was expecting something even higher for her Tokyo apartment. I'd much rather rent a place in Tokyo than Helsinki, if I had to choose, since the prices seem to be the same :D
Oh, and the month to month lease. Would never happen in Helsinki for less than €1300+ if they even offer such. I'm comparing with month to month leases in other big cities.
It's not often I can watch 18 minutes and 52 seconds of a video non stop. But I did.
I'm 6'3, or 190cm and have very wide shoulders. This ''apartment'' gives me nightmares, and I'm not even claustrophobic. Like living in a match box or something.
Well these apartments are for Japanese, n people in Asia are on average not more than 5 feet 7 inch.
I have claustrophobia and if I ever lived in that tiny apartment,I would die
I would put up with the tiny space if i could find a safe affordable place to live in Toyko or any other mega city. Not being able to invite friends into your home would be a bummer though!
@@happydon999 I could live in a coffin like that for the single month the contract is good for. It's probably only a month long precisely for that reason: Nobody's meant to live in a tiny space like that for extended periods of time. Of course during that month I'd only be there to sleep and occasionally eat, otherwise I would be sightseeing. A couple of hours working on a computer would also be tolerable.
is it weird that this video makes me want to come to Japan even more? Like I already did but ah... I think I'd love living in that apartment. I love small spaces and this is just the right amount.
@@perryplatypus7353 Don't worry, Japanese don't acknowledge the disabled... do you wouldn't need to worry about getting an apartment at all.
10:33 LOL That's Spanish Moss! ...Which... oddly enough is neither Spanish... nor moss... hmm. I nearly spit out my coffee when I saw it hanging on your wall, because, where I live, it grows on EVERYTHING, harbors bugs like lice, chiggers and spiders and is generally regarded as dirty. It's not something we like to even touch let alone bring indoors so when I saw you proudly growing it indoors and worrying over it's health, I had quite a good chuckle. LOL I'm positive that your Spanish Moss is clean, though, and it looks SUPER healthy - the brown center is normal - it will do that as the outside mass increases. And, bonus, I'm pretty sure it cleans the air to some extent! Thank you for renewing my appreciation for this funny-looking friend! Oh, and love the apartment too!
I don’t really know much about Spanish Moss, thanks for teaching me
I live in Florida and that definitely looks like spanish moss. Hangs on every tree near where I live.
theheavee yep I live in Florida too and that stuff is everywhere I was surprised to see she had it on her wall lol
I used to live in Georgia and I always saw it everywhere lol. Everyone always told me not to touch it but I didn’t really know why
Hi! This video showed up in my feed this morning, and I wasn’t sure why... then, I watched your video. You are a breath of fresh air and very down to earth and relatable, which is why your video was so enjoyable. No frills, just you giving an honest tour of your apartment in Japan, and sharing the few small side stories (like the drain), it really made the whole video relatable. Loved it. Subscribed, keep them coming. It also makes us Westerners realize how much we take for granted, in that the Japanese are the epitome of efficiency and compact design. My own home is 2100 square feet, and I am filled with useless collectibles and electronics that I never use. Just more to dust and clean. Your apartment is so efficient and has all anyone would really ever need. Great job.
The rent big cities around the world for small apartments is evil. In New York you may not even get a Bathroom, so you got that one beat.
$671.78 is not that bad for being in a good neighborhood. This was fascinating, thank you!
You my friend are a saucy hottie. The fact you play trombone makes you all the more hot and fascinating. Take care Cynthia. :-I
It’s amazing to see this after the journey of the new apartment!!! Congrats on the new apartment!! 👌🙌✨💪🔥
My materialistic ass wouldn't be able to handle this
Nuudelikeitto I would probably live there so that I don’t have to clean as much lol
Nope. could not, would not, on a boat. could not, would not, in a goat. I do not like small spaces, ma'am. I do not like them Sam, I am.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for pointing out that error! Imma leave it like that.
Would you, Could you in a house? Would you, could you, with a mouse?
i actually started laughing out loud when you talked about satan's butthole
May be your apartment is small but it is well organised and properly designed. I really liked the way you have used every tiny bit of space and kept your sleeping space clear from clutter.
So, basically, you can't be claustrophobic and live in one of those apartments. It feels like it can get a little claustrophobic.
All utilities included AND a short lease? Cheap AF. A one bedroom apartment with 500 square feet where I live is 750ish or more depending on what area you're in...
DavidTheGamer oh yeah I'm moving to Virginia and the cheapest decent 1 bedroom is like 980 lol.
Eventually the air-plant grows to take over the entire bathroom and then apartment.
* scary violin squeaks play *
I feel you a lot cause I live in a very tiny apartment in Tokyo too
It's amazing that you managed the tiny little space so well, better that I do lol. So many air plants so cute💖
You are very wise to realize that your living space and your sleeping space should separate, but I didn't and I got my fridge next to my bed and I have been thinking I want a complete "self" space
Thanks for the share it's really inspiring!
This is truly one of the OG J-vlogs. I was talking with my mom about how my 17 sq m apartment in Tokyo is small, and then I showed her this saying "but it can get smaller!" Anyone else watching this in 2024?
Her whole apartment is the same size as my bathroom like seriously
+Katie Pan In Australia, an eight square meter bathroom is medium size, not a big one. I actually just looked it up.
though it's very small it looks very comfortable imo
There's Americans who wouldn't even fit in this apartment 🤣

holy shit I thought New York apartments were small 😂
Yeah I'm never complaining about my NYC apartment ever again. Enormous compared to this.
same like my bathroom is bigger than her kitchen and it's a small bathroom
I`m living in 32 m2 apartment it`s small to our measures here. I cannot imagine being trapped in 4 times less space lol.
this entire apartment is actually same size with my smallest room in my apartment
The fact that this still pops up in my homepage..😆 Great vid. Good ol times with english speaking youtubers living in japan poppin off
I'm feeling claustrophobic through the screen!
Almost 700$ per month everything included. Good job.
+Mart Trett It was in the teeny bathroom to the right. Just a removable shower head. Rewatch the bathroom tour part, she did show it.
I'm claustrophobic...I'd die in there...how are you living there girl!!!!!
Saakshi Puri Bhatia imagine living in a tiny house in the middle of no where XD
Saakshi Puri Bhatia well, for most people apparently, they like tiny spaces like this. Plus, it's very manageable, easy to clean, and actually makes you learn how to split the use of your allowance in buying groceries (look at that tiny fridge! lol it's cute) to the money that goes to the bills.
the fact that there were almost 3000 people who downvoted this really sweet, innocent and fun video that has only good intentions just shows how you should never take "downvotes" personally. There is so no reason to downvote this video, yet, so many of them did. Being on social media really requires you to have healthy dose of self-confidence.
I had breathing problems while watching this but it is so cute
Hahahaha omg sorry about the breathing but happy you thought it was cute :')
hahah me too! It's so small :O
I've been to some small Airbnb's and hotels in Japan, but I really liked how you make the best out of all the space!
I love your house ( I'm trying to make it in the sims 4 )

I think using fairy lights or white Christmas lights would add a cute and warm cozy light plus the cute decoration
Coming here from the most recent apartment tour video. You've come so far!!
If I lived there I would stay busy all day until it was time to come home and sleep.
Yes! Tokyo life is so busy I am always happy to come home to my tiny apartment ^^ it is such a relaxing space because i spend so much time out and about!
That toilet/sink combo is very clever. Much respect for the inventor.
I think it's cute and cozy , I think it's good to live in like for a 1 year but 2 years would be crazy.
Honestly I like the bedroom situation. I’m a bigger guy but I really enjoy small rooms with that kind of space. It feels cozy to me!
You have everything you need in there and honestly , i really love the place
You love a hive society prison cell living quarters? You'll love the Elite's new world order, it will be made just for people like you
That's definitely an apartment that will make you appreciate going outside and hanging out in cafes. To be honest, that's not really a bad thing for most people. Many people honestly spend too much time lounging around at home anyway.
Idk why but I literally have stress watching this😂 it’s so small omg
Just imagine being drunk and needing to use the toilet and accidentally going in the sink 😂
As a Brit I can honestly say you speak better English than many many Brits. As for your little home, you have done a great job, it looks awesome x
I was listening casually until I heard Enter Shikari and I swear to god I would win a meerkat competition
I did exactly the same thing, I was working on an email and suddenly we're talking about Enter Shikari. Almost got whiplash snapping over to the tab. Hope you enjoy the show!
I would freak out in there...I admire your ability to not only live very simply, but to be enclosed in such a tiny space and not freak out about it. :)
I like your little plant ball. And I actually really like this house even tho it's small it seems cozy and cute and I really like the way you have decorated it. But I can imagine it would get kinda frustrating
Yuzu honey and Sakura jam😛💜sounds freaking delicious Japan has the coolest stuff
☆Imperials☆ Ik!! I watched that video the other day and I wanted to see how it compares to this video but I'm happy for her that she finally has some space to live in
I’m actually very impressed by her minimalism and ability to adapt to such a small space. If it were me my stuff would be bursting out at the seams.
This actually sounds like a pretty cool experience in my opinion. My room is already *very* small (like a little bigger than her loft), and I actually like it. It's quite cozy.
im the kind of person that is comfortable in a tiny house i dont like big house
I live in America. As you know, Americans like things large. VERY large, larger than they need to be. As an American, I couldn't imagine living in here, especially because I grew up in a fairly large home in the countryside, where you have plenty of space to roam around. I also see a lot of small cars in Japan, I'm used to large pickup trucks where you can lay down across the bench seat inside. I guess what you like just kinda depends on how you're raised.
Same, is there a word for being the complete opposite of claustrophobic? I live in America but would rather live in a cozy small home. I would definitely want to live in her house, but I would have to decorate it differently...
I must be desperate for self sufficiency because this idea of such a small yet it works apartment seems appealing :o
It's really amazing to see how you can make so much and something so pretty out of something so small.
You did a lovely job on the video, and your place is really charming. Good for you, it takes a lot of guts to move away and immerse yourself into a completely new culture and environment. Good Luck in the future.
I think the worst thing about living there is the fact that she's paranoid about playing the uke. Don't tell me she has paper walls.
Walls in these places are notoriously thin, and not insulated against noise.
Its an apartment that is 8 square meters, you think they are spending premium money on the walls?
well, after a quick google search, I can say this apartment has almostthe same space as the total interior space of four Chevy Suburbans.
Hi! Emma from over 2 years in the future here! Just want to clear up some very common comments:
Yup I figured out msg isn't bad for you hahaha
This place was expensive, but definitely not the worst deal in Tokyo. Though at the time I had not many options due to my Australian working holiday visa!
I now live in a larger apartment for much cheaper and live and work still in Tokyo :)
The only thing I miss from this apartment is the cool sci fi toilet, and how quickly the place got warm in winter when I turned on the heater.
This place was amazing short term, but the lack of sunlight, location, and size were a bit rough after 11 months haha
It was a great experience living there and I learned a lot about myself and how to utilize space and appreciate what I have.
If you want to see where I live now I have made plenty more videos during my time here in Japan :) Thanks for watching and enjoy the rest of your UA-cam browsing!
11 months? wow, that place is smaller than my camper.
Ive just had a heart attack 481 uk pounds rent lol
It is claimed that MSG cause asthma, headaches and even brain damage. But FDA official it is safe, just not for sensitive people.
But how was the Enter Shikari show?!
Thanks for sharing. I like Japan so finding out about everyday life is very interesting. :)
