An SEM21 should be tack sharp at f/3.4. At 5.6 most of the things should be in focus especially when the subject isn't really close. At f/8 the optical system is still far from being diffraction limited, the images should still be tack sharp. Please send the lens back to Leica for a thorough checkup and calibration.
@@sc1 Sure, it's easy when you can compare with the other lenses that you own. Please be reminded that as far as focusing is concerned, the 21mm lens should be more forgiving since it has a much deeper depth of field.
@@Sniper5354 So, assuming lighting and distance are not an issue, would you recommend shooting at f/5.6 or f/8? I’m hesitant to reach the diffraction point, but I still want everything in clear focus.
The only thing that kills me with Leica branded half cases is the price they charge for them just because it’s going on a Leica, would have half of the price if it was on any other camera body. Got one ages ago for my Leica TL2 and my eyes almost rolled like a slot machine over the price lol. How’s your M11 been treating you? Any sort of staining coming off of the leather at all?
Most freezing issues were caused by SD card incompatibility, and has been resolved by recent firmware updates. As for half cases, the main problem is, most of those made for M11 increase camera height substantially. Owners may need some time to get used to the new dimensions which are significantly different from all other M cameras. Oberwerth half cases have one more problem. Besides the magnet near the USB port, some of the half cases have four strong magnets on the back side to which a rear flap is attached. Those magnets sit right next to the shutter mechanism. I don't want any parts of the shutter mechanism magnetised. Hence the half case of my Oberwerth M11 set sits on the shelf.
No staining issues on my cases, and only 1 freeze up of my M11 in several months of ownership. Leica can charge so much for their accessories… because they can get away with it.
@Sniper5354, I only detect one magnet on my Oberwerth case near the USB port. I feel a metallic outline at the sides of the case, coming up from the bottom of the case. I thought that was an aluminum frame (maybe a magnet?). But it does not sit close to the shutter button, it even sits below the directional pad. Is that still a problem? The case is so gorgeous.
@@sc1 Oberwerth cases have aluminium frames so that you can bend them inward slightly and the cases can conform to the shape of the cameras (for a tighter fit). Since your case does not have a rear flap, there shouldn't be any magnets other than the one near the USB port. The shutter mechanism is not situated near the shutter button, but on the left side of the camera (opposite side of the battery compartment). The tiny magnet near the USB port should not affect the shutter mechanism.
@@Sniper5354 I didn’t order the rear flap version case, so it’s probably just the aluminum frame. I didn’t know the shutter mechanism was away from the shutter release button, so that’s good to know.
Your 21mm looks like it may have a problem. This particular lens is rated by afficianodo's as the sharpest and best ultra wide made by Leica. Bar none!!! Better contrast and superior sharpness to the Summilux.

How much does Leica charge for a CLA?
@@sc1 If you send it back to Wetzlar, they should charge you around 200 Euros for CLA (excluding shipping) if there are no other major issues.
