Still love this song after all the stuff that's gone on. I'm going on 41 and of all of Petra's songs, this one still stands out for me. Oo-rah. To ashes. Amen.
This is one of my favorite songs when I was a baby in the Lord, it still touches my heart. I wana be I wana be a God pleaser!!!! :) I wana hear my Father say,"Well done, well done!" I wana hear my Father say,"Well done!" Awesome song...while blasting Petra when I was a baby I heard God speak audibly to me and tell me He loves me, WOW, I will never forget that, I was shocked and amazed!!! God is so awesome!!! And can talk really loud LOL, well it was soft and gentle but heard above Petra, wow!
This is probably one of my favorite all time Petra songs, but in 2012 I took my daughters to see Classic Petra in Des Moines and they were absolutely shocked to see that they can still rock, BUT, when they sang this song my daughter, who was 11 at at the time, was singing at the top of her lungs all the way home in the car: "Don't want to be a man preserve, just want to be a God preserve..." I think I about wrecked the car...I have to say that every time I listen to this song now I find myself replacing "God pleaser" with "God preserve".
Geez.....I almost made it.... 50 more years I could of gone without reading this...buuut noooow ...all I hear is God preserve man preserve....hahahahahahaha.........cheers
I agree, first time I heard it it struck a chord deep within my soul & is a regular part of my Worship in thanks & gratitude to the King of All The Earth!!!
I would never have said this better myself. Got hooked on Petra in a friend's dorm room during my Freshman year of college...still jam to this album together with MPTY. Still moved to tears by a lot of this stuff.
Went to this show in Dallas back in '82 or '83, I was hooked! After all these years to still remember the words... The anointing is just as strong today as it was then. Thank you Jesus for Petra and their willingness to serve you.
The older I get, the more I appreciate this song. Grave Robber is still the best song on this album, but this one might be #2. Clean, straightforward message with a good score. Well done, Petra.
Your right the latter rain will soon be poured out, what an honor to be born at such a time as this, we will see great an amazing things!!! The giant is about to wake up!!! The intercessors and worshipers are being called forth even now!!! Praise God, the anticipation is in the air!!!!!!!!

Having the doxology in there was so cool. My 2nd senior year at Trevecca, my roommate had "More Power To Ya" and "Not Of This World" on DVD, and worked them into rotation on his 6 CD changer. Years later I would get the opportunity to obtain on my own CD collection. Now I really like "Beyond Belief" very well, but must confess those two that Troy had have gotten the most playtime on my playlists of all Petra Albums.
I was given this cassette as a birthday present back in the 80's and when I heard the whole cassette, this song always stuck out. I fell in love with it immediately! I don't think it was ever a hit but to me it should have been! It's a great song with awesome lyrics. Thanks for posting it.
Hi John, Did you sing the song, "Ask Him in"? I loved that song. We never Met but I sang for Barren Cross in 1990 and did Cornerstone 1990 with Petra. I cherish all the Petra music from way back and regard y'all as one of the most inspirational Christian bands of all time. I am blessed every single time I listen. I have to admit that I Listen mostly to early years with you in the mix. You were great. Hope you are well brother. God bless you.
Love it! Petra is my childhood!!! My most memorable memories of childhood. I have seen Petra in concert at least 6 times that I can remember and also Rez band too a couple of times. Thank you so much for your blessings for many many years! I just rededicated my life last year in February (2011) at 35 years old. I am proof that if you bring a child up in the christian faith that when they are old they will not depart from it!! Praise God!! 1 question: R U guys still singing & making CDs?

- Colossians 1:10 - That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of GOD;
Like Paul said to the Romans that which I should do I don't do and that which I shouldn't do I do but regardless of our human battle with our flesh I stilll want to be a God Pleaser (Paul's biblical description is mine)
NOT A MAN PLEASER, ONLY A "GOD"PLEASER!! DO the things that PLEASE THE FATHER'S HEART!!!YEA!! YEA!!YEA!! YEA!!THE FATHER & THE SON SAY WELL DONE!!!!!WELL DONE!!!!!WELL DONE!!!! WELL DONE!!!!!WELL DONE!!!!!WELL DONE!!!!!
The Last Great Awakening is about to start now before the Rapture. It starts with you & me Loving People Like Jesus Loved us & them. Love them enough to correctly tell them about Jesus christ & what he did for us within 1 minute. 1 minute is all most non-christians will give you & me to Explain the Gospel. This will Please God!!
I don't know how this could be offensive to some religious people. All the messaging is good as far as christianity is concerned, so my best guess is that Petra's worst christian critics are in fact unchristian in their condemnation of this beautiful music.
It sounds like it would be a lot of fun to play! Like when you get it down, it sounds pretty good and it's simple really! A great solo to learn in the beginning ✅

One of the first Petra songs I'd ever heard back in the mid-80s, God used their music to change my life continuing 30 years later. GRATEFUL.
I would never have said this better myself. Got hooked on Petra in a friend's dorm room during my Freshman year of college...still jam to this album together with MPTY. Still moved to tears by a lot of this stuff.

I just noticed the Doxology after God Pleaser for the first time and I've heard the song hundreds of times. Funny.

I completely forgot that we ended that album with the Visions reprise. I guess it was pretty cool after all. (John M. Slick, Petra 1979-1984)

While I know it's impossible for me to please God....this song brings back a lot of memories.
The Bible says without faith it’s impossible to please God. We must believe that he is God and a rewarded of those who trust him. Hebrews 11:6
