Among Lakota and Sioux cultures the bodies of the dead were feared as disease carriers and by raising them above the ground to distance themselves. It may also be a hint at the fate of two named native characters in the game. Sky Burials attract predatory birds and vultures as the means of disposal of the body (by scattering the remains after they are consumed.). In Lakota culture rain symbolizes renewal after destruction of the land. On the Mysterious Man and the Cain theory, I’m surprised that it wasn’t mentioned that Cain is brought up in RDR2. You can overhear Dutch having a conversation with Jack and telling him the story of Cain and how he was condemned to wander after doing a ‘bad thing’. So the devs are certainly familiar with the tale, enough to have dialogue pertaining to it in the game itself. Also, it may have been simple rng but I overheard this convo right before I went fishing with Javier and Arthur asks if Javier thinks Dutch is doing things differently now and references what happened ‘to that girl on the ferry’. Which could be a reference to the same girl the man mentions to John. It may be a longshot theory but I wouldn’t necessarily count that one out.
there was a meteorite trinket but it was scrapped, and to stop people from getting it they simply made the recipe need 3, when theres only 2 in the game
There are a ton of trinkets that were planned but scrapped. The game is basically half-finished and half-assed. Hence also why so many "mysteries" are unsolved: They simply weren't finished.
@@mattj1829 In terms of half finished content, it is. Take a deep dive into all the myseries and all the started stuff and what even divers into the files couldn't uncover. There's so much missing. And the writing really is sub-par after chapter 3. You can tell that Strauss Zelnick put his greedy jew foot down and demanded a premature release
If you compare the released game to the original vision and all the cut content, then it is literally HALF assed. 50% of the game they were planning on making had to get cut because of time constraints. Instead of taking 2 extra years to create the greatest piece of art in history, they cut it mid-development and released it in an unfinished state. It's sad.@@mattj1829
Same here! I do a play through perhaps once a year since it came out. This time around, I discovered a double rainbow, and archeologist that pays you for dinosaur bones you find, and a gold miner in a river that you can rob for a gold nugget.
@@WaldoBagelTopperthere’s also a little shed way up north in the Ambarino roughly between and above the “N” and “O” of Ambarino, where a platinum watch, gold nugget, and platinum earrings/ band spawn, as soon as you pick them up you can set up your camp while you’re still in the shed, after this every time you ride back to the shed after setting up camp the loot will respawn, you could easily get 99 golden nuggets if you’re willing to repeat the process 99 times.
i have a theory that the ghost train is what alerted the law to the gang during pouring forth oil. we never found out how the law knew about the robbery. and the robbery happens right where the ghost train spawns. even the scene with the law finding arthur is eerie. the music that plays. it always felt like an odd scene. my theory is that there was a posse of law out one night and they saw the ghost train and followed it. and it led them right to arthur and friends. it's similar to how the ghost dog in gta 5 tells franklin about dom being in trouble twice. i know the theory is unlikely. but in a game with ufos and time travelers. it doesn't seem impossible.
@@Princess_Celestia_ micah didn't rat until after guarma. and honestly if the ghost train is what led them to the robbery. would they really put that in the newspaper? who would believe that a ghost led them to a robbery. nobody would buy a newspaper from that company again. it would sound so unbelievable. and nobody would believe it. so it's better to just say they were tipped off by someone.
I think the ghost train is maybe just a personal thing to Arthur, perhaps it's supposed to be a memory of some sort which he's reflecting on , after all that mission is the first one where there is suspicion of a snitch
23:31 thinking about it, I remember that when you read Arthur's journal for the first time and goes back for the notes before the ferry massacre, Arthur mentions of him seeing "a man that looked like trelawny", now, the fact that he randomly mentioned it might be the way the game found to tell us that the strange men was there during the blackwater massacre, so he may have been killed during the mess, and, as nikpar said, now he haunts those who killed him
This game is 5 years old and people are STILL discovering new stuff in it. I always feel like one day, some gamer somewhere is going to discover a secret buried so ridiculously deep, that it's going to reignite RDR2 online community again. I wonder if Rockstar has any way of knowing if there is any element of this game that hasn't been discovered yet. I can't wait to see what RDR3 is going to be someday. But people are still playing part 2 so much that 3 isn't going to come out for like a 100 years probably.
I personally think that the creature sounds you hear after desecrating any of the several sacred Indian grounds in the game imply the existence of the Native American mythological creature, the Wendigo.
"in the game imply the existence of the Native American mythological creature, the Wendigo." 4 things.. 1.) Native Americans are not one people but many different groups, cultures and world views. You can't just mix and match what you please. 2.) The Wendigo is specific to the Algonquian tribes and doesn't exist in the oral traditions of any of the other tribes. 3.) The Wapiti Indians are conglomeration of the Lakota tribe and other tribes from the Great Planes and Rocky Mountains of which the Algonquian are not a part of and thus the Wapiti would not have any traditions of wendigo. 4.) Rock* are not idiots and would know this, a basic google search of "wendigo" reveals as much. You don't need to be an anthropologist to figure it out.
@@Princess_Celestia_ Thanks for educating me! "The water is black with venom" is not a reference to Blackwater heist, it's a reference to the Cholera in Armadillo, which is spread by contaminated water, Herbert Moon, the shopkeeper, was told of it by the Strange Man, so he decided to have his daughter leave Armadillo and then you can read the rest in the letter he has.
11:11 you can find notes talking about how the serial killer is prescribed to laudanum. He could have used that as a way to sedate his victims before ambushing them by drugging their water.
Nah, you would be able to taste it and the team would be like, what the turd? Also, it would take many bottles to sedate the team so that they would be weak as funk.
@@lobotomyscam1051 bro, I appreciate your attention to detail. However I just have to iterate something. Laudanum in 1880 was a vague "medicine" with a very inconsistent recipe. Normally laudanum was comprised of morphine/cocaine/opium/peyote etc, if it's illegal today? It was used in that stuff back then. So yeah, I get it, they may have "tasted" some weird taste. But when you just swallowed a mouthful of elephant tranquilizer, it doesn't really matter how big and healthy you are.
The whole game just has an ominous sense throughout, wherever you are. You can never really sit back and relax, even just riding through the woods you can always get ambushed at anytime. Always keeps you on your toes! I’ve never played another game that feels that real and creepy as RDR2 does. I think it’s the combo of me actually feeling bad for killing some people in the game and the actual consequences of everything you do. No bad act goes unpunished in this game.
I think now, that some years have passed, the mystery around Gavin is one of the best ones. Whether it was intentional or not, the player base interested in this mystery has become just like Nigel. Wondering who and where Gavin is, finding out every possible little thing from clues Rockstar might've left. And there seems to be no real explanation, because from the clues we got, multiple theories can be formed. And now, even years later, people talk about it and want to know about Gavin. I don't know, I just think it's kind of funny how poetic this feels lmao
My theory on The Strange Man is... He's your conscious, he's there to make you realise your actions in the game have consequences (...much the same as in reality). He's the constant reminder that you should behave appropriately given the situation. That's just my whacky theory anyway... One thing's for sure R* really are masters at their art. No other company makes games with so many layers of depth. Many years ago I worked in the development of video games and I would have loved to have been a part of the making of rdr2. From what I've read about the stressful development of this game it's shocking the conditions and stress the team were put through to make this trully amazing game. They should all be very proud of the final product, in my opinion it's by far the best game that's been made to date.

Sadly most of these mysteries feel more like disjointed easter eggs rather than hidden secrets that deepen the lore. They're akin to "If you go to place x at time y, shoot gun z 5 times a special lightning will strike" which is cool, but doesn't add much to the world/lore. Still better than nothing.
Doing another play through now checking out all the Easter eggs. Just found the vampire for the first time. I missed so much on my first two play throughs
the first one was just that though, its a sky burial. it looks like a chief's sky burial. the four directions cross was near so more can be done there. as its a burial i think thats why if you try set it on fire, it rains cause its supposed to put it out. also cant clean your gun cause no weapons except the chief's weapons are only allowed.
I thought the Strange man as Cain was cool but today i was playing and im in the camp. A stray dog enters the camp. Little Jack is excited asking about the dog and guess what Dutch names him Caine because the dog is a wander that might have done bad things... insane.

i feel like the train could be an omen at how the gang's first major robbery (at least the first oone WE see in the game) and the gang's last robbery was a train heist
The meteorites could have been cut content, the 3rd one originally being intended for Mexico which was obviously scrapped due to time constraints. Just speculation on my part.
The strange man is the angel of death. The first time Dutch and Hosea got locked up I believe the strange man visited them and offered them some sort of deal, they later went on to rob 37 banks along side the gang and a have a successful life of crime until the events the black water massacre occurred. Strange man probably came to collect causing Dutch to go into panic mode and kill heidi, the beginning of the gangs downfall. Dutch sells his “son” Arthur to save the soul of the gang and when he realizes that Arthur is more than that to him he can’t stand to lose him, he flees to Montana then to black water until michah a vassal of the strange man infiltrated the gang to take Arthur’s soul to hell. The strange man torments Dutch in his mind driving him insane. In the high honor ending Arthur dies naturally in the low honor ending Micah kills him sending him to hell. When Arthur escapes the vassal of the strange man the curse passes on to John as the next “son of Dutch”. When Dutch shoots Micah it’s to spare John and he can’t even stand to look John in the eyes out of guilt. The strange man knowing Johns fate tests his honor in 1911 to determine if he is worthy to pay the price. After Dutch dies and goes to hell the curse broken and John meets his end and goes to heaven, leaving behind jack free of curses.
@@dingane0039 He can, he can also take your soul and help you cross to the other side. He’s actually a nice and gentle being, he comforts people and gives reassurance when their crossing over. But your right about the demon part, I think rockstar made it into their own little thing. When you visit his cabin in the woods you can find a alligator in a cage missing his claws, that’s voodoo. The strange man made a video on how rockstar added voodoo and occult symbols all over the game
The biggest mystery I can't find the solution to is this weird, ghostly humming when I'm roaming around the world at night. I can't find any reference to it
I always thought the strange man was meant to be us, the player. Always a few feet behind them, sees everything… The paintings are just a metaphor for the creation that is our save file

@@Waxyyy However, there are shadow files, which are used to house secrets. For example, I can't remember the specifics, but there is a file in GTA V that disguises itself as a material for a horse. There are no horses in GTA V, so this is an example of a shadow file. Misnamed files to throw off file-scanners, and it would take months of dedication to go through all the code, files, and directories of Red Dead II and check. You'd have more luck finding it in game if anything
@@Waxyyy maybe there is a secret location in the grizzlies where there is a hidden pathway over one of the mountains near the glacier in ambarino that no one has found
23:45 The Strange Man is an analog for god. He knows, accounts for choices, judges actions, and warns of consequences. John attempts to shoot him three times, denoting a "Doubt" each time and the conversation between John and the Strange Man happen where the Marston's will be buried later. Only Jack will survive. However, you bring up some other things in the entry that should be covered. I hope you do a follow up on the other aspects you left out of the entry. (Regarding Armadillo and Herbert Moon) He cannot be Cain as his presence is supposed to wither any plant life wherever he walks. Cain also went on to found a city after his banishment. Finally, Jack writes the novel of Red Dead. One other way to consider both games is that they are actually the book we are playing through. As such, The Strange Man might very well be an older Jack who wrote himself in. Granted that has a weak premise but is also very, very Meta.
Nope. Her picture can be seen in the saloon in St.Denis, where u first meet Chaturney. Shows she was normal. She went crazy when she was possessed by the Darkness and pulled her hair out and cut her own face.

Yes, the “girl in the ferry” could be a reference to the “girl on the ferry”. Genius. It’s not a question, detective.
there was a meteorite trinket but it was scrapped, and to stop people from getting it they simply made the recipe need 3, when theres only 2 in the game
There are a ton of trinkets that were planned but scrapped. The game is basically half-finished and half-assed. Hence also why so many "mysteries" are unsolved: They simply weren't finished.
@@ShadowAngel-lt8nwJust because a game has cut side content doesn’t mean it’s unfinished, dummy.
@@ShadowAngel-lt8nwwouldn't really say RD2 is half assed
I’ve been playing this game for 3 years and I’m STILL learning things about it. Amazing honestly.
Same here! I do a play through perhaps once a year since it came out. This time around, I discovered a double rainbow, and archeologist that pays you for dinosaur bones you find, and a gold miner in a river that you can rob for a gold nugget.
@@WaldoBagelTopperfound out you can fast travel just recently
The law was tipped off beforehand, a news paper article states as much. It was most likely Micha.
Ghost Trains have been part of history as long as there have been trains.

"in the game imply the existence of the Native American mythological creature, the Wendigo."
4 things..
I'm very ignorant about history lol especially American history, I'm personally from Indonesia and my country's so uninvolved from the rest of the world's history that I pretty much just know what they taught us in middle school and high school, which largely revolves around WW2 and our independence.

Hey 👋
Nah, you would be able to taste it and the team would be like, what the turd? Also, it would take many bottles to sedate the team so that they would be weak as funk.
@@lobotomyscam1051 bro, I appreciate your attention to detail. However I just have to iterate something. Laudanum in 1880 was a vague "medicine" with a very inconsistent recipe.
Normally laudanum was comprised of morphine/cocaine/opium/peyote etc, if it's illegal today? It was used in that stuff back then.
So yeah, I get it, they may have "tasted" some weird taste.

There are no “consequences” in this game. Stop saying that, like you have choices.

Sadly most of these mysteries feel more like disjointed easter eggs rather than hidden secrets that deepen the lore. They're akin to "If you go to place x at time y, shoot gun z 5 times a special lightning will strike" which is cool, but doesn't add much to the world/lore.

The angel of death doesn't make deals tho, it's probably a Demon of somesort working for the Devil

John attempts to shoot him three times, denoting a "Doubt" each time and the conversation between John and the Strange Man happen where the Marston's will be buried later. Only Jack will survive.
