*Update: it IS possible to organize vault items to some extent.* You can create “groups” with just yourself (it’s not just for sharing) and separate logins that way. However, there is still no way to add tags to items or put items within a folder once inside a group. Thanks to @D8686M for the feedback.
Apple Password is the same as Microsoft Authenticator. BOTH are Password Manager. BOTH are Authenticator. And BOTH are FREE. The advantage of MS Authenticator over Apple Password is that it is available in all platforms.
Agreed. It's definitely not a password manager for people who watch videos on password managers, BUT it's a great solution for people who are not into tech that run away when someone suggest using a password manager. With those people, Apple has made it easy enough that there's chance of adoption. I feel this is the first time I have a chance of convincing family members who don't use password managers to adopt the habit.
I’m primarily an Apple user and everything i use daily are apple products. My iCloud password is stronger than 90% if not more of people. They do need to improve it for sure. Not using special characters is not good IMO.
Does Password app have export function? If not then it's bad but if there is possibility to export your passwords/logins then it's not so bad. Hopefully if there is export function it work better than exporting notes...
One of the first features mentioned early in the show is Windows support and that there is support for Chrome and one other browser extension (didn’t catch the name). So, there IS some cross-platform support. So why write “…no-cross-platform support…?” What more do you expect from a version 1.0 product? Apple is likely to fill-in these missing features over time and I’ve always believed I’d rather trust Apple software with my passwords instead of third parties.
I think this is for your average Joe/Jane who don't know what a password manager is or someone who wants something super simple. But if you are on top 3rd party apps I see absolutely no reason to switch.
The only issue I have with it that I’m not able to use it with any browser not Safari. It’s not easy for 2fa and inserting password on chromium browsers. Started of thinking of moving to other apps but it’s not worth the move. Locked into the ecosystem including Safari though I’m having so many issues with it
At the time of this video going live, iOS 18 has been out for over a week. So I assume there was a long lag between recording this and releasing it? You mention there's no way to organise passwords by folders, but then literally mouse over the "add to Group" option, and even then talk about groups later. You don't have to have another person in a group. You can just use it for you to organise. I've been doing that since they first introduced groups over a year ago. I have all my work passwords in one group, passwords for hotel booking apps and websites in another, passwords for smart home apps in another, etc etc.
Hey, thanks for your feedback! Yes, we shoot videos a few weeks before release and decided it was best to try and time it with the software releasing as much as possible. Thank you for letting me know! I didn’t realize a group could be created for just one person. I suppose this setup is similar to a “vault” in other password managers. I’m adding a pinned comment with an update about this.
Thanks for replying! I just replied to your other comment, but yeah, you can use tags in the Notes field to organise and search by that. I also have a couple of passwords tagged with various comments that are searchable.
@@D8686M hmmm... that is one possible way to do tags, but you still can't see all of your tags at a glance or edit a tag name (without editing every single comment). Still a subpar way to organize the vault IMO, but glad it's at least an option.
Cancelled 1pass the day apple passwords officially released. Never needing to update 1pass ever again, or update and fear new bugs, plus the price (free) is simply a no brainer. It’s also a tighter integration. Password prompts pop up even before pages have loaded sometimes and authentication via facetime or touch id is noticeably quicker
Also a peace of mind feeling knowing my passwords are stored with apple vs a third party app. Adds to the feeling of apple being a unified 🔑 . I’m glazing crazy rn lol
I was a one-password user for years and paid for the license until they switched to a subscription model. I use both Mac and Windows and absolutely love the password manager from Apple. With many of my company passwords tied into the Microsoft ecosystem, it’s been a lifesaver to be able to log in using Apple passwords and to use two-factor authentication. It’s so simple and just works. I hope Apple adds more features to the password manager, and I personally think they will.

It’s an amazing password manager for those who want something simplistic and are only within the Apple ecosystem

No cross platform support (outside Apple) is an automatic disqualification for me. Same goes for Apps that hold your data OS hostage.
I completely understand. It's not a good fit unless you use Apple devices exclusively.

How to change the buil-in password app on macOS Sequoia to 1Password?

You actually can. When you tap the text field there will be an option for “auto fill” then “passwords”

@@Natak222 But if your account gets nukes for some magical reason then it'll all be gone
Fair review. -Thx
I'll stick with Proton
Same.
What if you don’t want to use it. Why can’t a person keep using the old one which is alot easier.
You can’t even generate a password
I generated passwords in the apps and in Safari. You can't generate passwords with the Chrome extension, though.
Typical apple - no thanks
0:16 last pass? oh, come on man, that's not a password manager anymore😅
Hahaha. I wholeheartedly agree! Yet I still feel it has strong brand recognition which is why I mentioned it.
Well it is... but it only have one big "shared password with everybody" group...
