  • Sukhna Lake is a lake located in the foothills of the Shivalik Hills of the Himalayas in the city of Chandigarh, India. The lake was created in 1958 by impounding the rainfed lake Sukhna Khad (Choa) in an area of 3 km². Earlier rain water used to fall directly in it and due to this a lot of silt used to get accumulated in it. To prevent this, 25.42 km² of land was taken and a forest was planted in it. In 1974, the water of the Choa was diverted to the other side and arrangements were made to fill the lake with clean water.
