      Angela Merkel was a Russian puppet, dating back to her days as a young communist party leader. Communist party leadership or membership should be a disqualifying metric for European politicians.

      And yet for all the rage and anger it provides, i can't help but feel pity for the Russian people. They are oppressed in bondage and unable to free themselves from this never-ending pain and suffering. I think Ukrainians are being the best people in this war by showing humanity to Russians, both civilians and soldiers, showing them that courage and compassion are the weapons of a free people. And that a free people is a people that neither fears nor cannot be subjugated.

    • @David-gh6vp
      @David-gh6vp Місяць тому

      @@xGoodOldSmurfehx "Pity" only to a point. But are you kidding me about Russians being "unable" to resist? High school children have burned down helicopters and damaged aircraft, buildings, etc., and a million have ran away refusing enlistment. No, these people [unlike most of the World] are too irresolute to rebel. They are too arrogant to bend. . .

      In Finland they still remembers. When I was young we had a friend to the family whos grandfather was from Karelia - During the winter war he had to shoot his best friend because the russians crucified him, he took the gamble to give away his position but he couldnt stand the screams. That is why they say "Never forget, never forgive" in Finland.

I don't have the money to join, or get a T-shirt, or buy me a coffee but I really wish I could do the last one because I well probably sounds really really stupid, but I really want to hear how he would pronounce my name. I vaguely remember how it was pronounced in Polish, the family a couple of doors down used to watch me after school and during the summer until we moved and I started 4th grade. They were from Poland so like I said sounds really stupid I know but just would love to know what it sounds like in Estonian, not sure if I spelled that right. But ya this way at least I know I'm helping with the algorithms and getting him higher up there bit by bit. I was even replaying the old ones while he was on his honeymoon to try to help keep his program from falling to much. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦💖🇺🇸 Glory to the Heroes 🇺🇦💖🇺🇸

      Yes, it was naïve. She was born and grew up in the GDR i.a. former soviet-controlled East Germany.

    As a German I absolutely agree upon Arturs opinion regarding Angela Merkel.
    In my opinion she did for those two decades too little and she did not make Germany resilient enough regardings forseeable problems. In other words: her policy was spending money when times where „good“, instead of saving and/or spending it for harder times etc.
    Also the literally „no balls“ policy against Putin was one of her biggest mistakes IMO and even worse: continueing the policy of her predecessor Gerhard “Gas-Gerd” Schröder, which is still an awkward but now useless puppy of Putin.
    One major problem in our electoral system is in my opinion the fact, that a chancellor has no term limit, like the two-term limit of US presidency.
    German election researchers stated, that she has made use of the so called "asymetric demobilization": You avoid during your election campaign any controversial topics to demotivate the voters of your opponent so much, that these decide to not go to vote, while your voters still go to vote because you are the known and cosy chancellor. And actually who cares? As far as the Schnitzel and asparagus with sauce hollandaise in May is anyways on the table, heated with cheap russian gas?
    If she wouldn’t have decided to quit years ago, she still would be our chancellor. Yes, so sad is the truth and being honest, it might even become worse next year...

Its getting harder and harder to escape. This dude is only 22 years old. He doesn't want to fight anyone. He just wants to write cool programs and drink a few beers.
    And because he ran, because he didn't want to get drafted, if he gets sent back to Russia, he'll be straight to the front.

    Hi @ArturRehi - you asked for opinions on the legacy of Angela Merkel. As a German myself, I can understand your point of view. But it is rather more complicated. The issue started way back, when Gerhard Schröder (Social democrat) was chancellor. He was the person that signed the original NorthStream contracts and only left his post on the supervisory board of Rosneft in May-2022 after a huge public sh...storm. Of course he never paid taxes on his income from Russia, because he "officially" recided in Switzerland. All the while living on a German state pension and with an official office and 4 secretaries in Berlin paid by Germany. Merkel on the other hand - did nothing to counter that, because she grew up in Eastern Germany and would not dare to rustle the feathers of her fellow East Germans. She did however achieve massive victories for humanity in total, when she showed compassion and a backbone in several crisis, including refugee situation caused by the U.S. and Russia. So she will be remembered as the person who did not dare to have her own strategy, but only carry on.

Aeroflot wouldn't touch it and other airlines followed their lead as it was a typical Russian, Lada-esque, designed aircraft compared to the Airbus and Boeings they were operating. What Tu214's left the assembly line were used by Russian government agencies and for delivering post like Concordski. Sukhoi then designed with the help of Boeing the Inter-City Superjet-100 using all western components except for the engines with even the seats and internal structures(Galleys & Toilets) being supplied by western companies. I was involved in the design and manufacture of the Galleys when I worked for an American aerospace corporation in one of their UK plants. The galleys were built to the same quality and specifications as we supplied Airbus and Boeing but sadly the air frame was of a typical Russian build, nigh on agricultural, welding was done by pigeons, fabrication done with a big hammer, as with Lada's. Aeroflot ordered over 50 and were very pleased at first until things broke and it took months to get spares. An aircraft only makes money when it's in the air, not sitting on the ground and the production line was well behind the delivery schedule. So much so some of our galleys were sitting in crates in unheated hangers at Sukhoi's assembly plant, which is not that far from Siberia I believe, for up to 18 months. So when they unpacked them the decorative covering, expensive fire and smoke proof wallpaper, was falling off as the glue had crystalized in the cold. An Aeroflot cabin crew member was sacked for refusing to fly on Sukhoi's saying they were rubbish compared to Airbus and although the equipment was western made, it's all badly fitted by Russians. She said all the cabin crew felt the same but didn't back her up when she went public, so the poor girl was sold out by her comrades. Since I retired I have seen that Sukhoi is upgrading their aircraft and proudly announcing that all equipment is now of Russian origin. By the way a Mexican airline, Interjet, bought a lot of Sukhoi Superjets and instead of using our internal structures and seats their aircraft were sent to Italy for fitting out by Pinafarina, of Ferrari fame, with white leather seats. Even before 2014 most of their fleet was gathering dust in Mexico as waiting for spares and when they eventually arrived 6 months later the aircraft was unserviceable due to the not being used....ha ha!!

I wish that I could meet you personally if and when you return to New York City. Somehow, I’d my wife and I like to show you and your wife New Yauk (as we say it here). Possibly through a response by you and a return message. Be well and God Bless Estonia. Such a brave nation.

    as a german a agree that merkel made a lot of mistakes. but 2 points of Bleeeeeeeh are wrong in my opinion.
    1. merkel didn't destroy souther europe. look at greece now. they had a very hard time, but it was their mistake. they got help, but not so much to feel comfortable - and thats right. greece today looks much stronger than before because they spend on a solid foundation.
    eastern european countries did it differently and are now, as i know, very solid financially. and it would be very hard to explain to central and north europeans that they had to except hard cuts, while greece was on spending spree.
    2. merkel made germany depended on russian energy - but not europe, thats a joke. other countries can make their own deals. the big mistake was the german thinking of "wandel durch handel", change of politics through trade. and in the end all will be democracies .... left utopist thinking. to relay only on russian energie only was like a dog turns on his back and showing the throate (i am not threat - no reason to bite) - a terrible mistake germany is paying for in the moment.
    before 2022 when i mentioned the russian aggressive approach in diskussions with friends, i was laught about my warnings. germans were fixated at their guilt to russia (it wasn't russia alone, more victims where in belorussia and ukraine) and their weak approach to avoid anything threatening to russia.
    in my opinion lots of the german conclusions about nazi-regime are wrong. to remember german history between 1933-45 is absoultly neccessary, but the germans did it in a very selfdistructing way. the lesson ww2 taught should be, stand up against any country who tries destroy another country and culture. and if russia is the enemy of freedome, it should play no role what our grandfathers did, now is the time to act against force. Your friends in europe - poles, baltic people, czechs and so on were overlooked for the benefit of agressive russians. Stop that now. i think europeans would love to see germany put their weight in the fight for freedom. not as a hegemon - we should be relayable partners especially for poland and others in eastern europe. last words, germany needs a different thinking in many fields, but foreign policy in any case. our aim should be that russia looses the war, even without the americans. europe can grow on this.

      I agree with you. I would added Wandel durch Handel make sense within Adam Smith framework. I am not angry about it. My problem was the North stream. It was invitation to start war. Sikorski called it a new Molotov Ribentrop pact.

      "Our aim should be that russia LOSES the war, even without the Americans." I agree totally. But better that it should be a joint project of aid to Ukraine, without restrictions, from the US, Canada, all of Europe (including the UK), Australia, NZ, Japan, S. Korea, Mexico, S. America and all other civilized nations. That would end Putler's misadventure very quickly.

    • @FriedrichSchüssler
      @FriedrichSchüssler Місяць тому

      @@RichardTaylor1630 You are right, a joint international coalition is stronger and more powerful than europe alone. it was just a thought for those who fear trump and a cut of support from the us. and even thats not clear - maybe thats the reason putin would perfer harris - the devil that you know....

    • @FriedrichSchüssler
      @FriedrichSchüssler Місяць тому

      @@happyfelix1440 Hi Felix,
      The "Wandel durch Handel" theory was very prominent after the fall of sowejtunion, but even then it was wrong. the su was outmatched with an extrem low oil price. the winning formula in this war too, i think - an oil price below 40$ for a longer periode would kill russia. I am not angry about the idear too, but in 2014 that should have changed without question. But germany lectured their neighbours about russia, even after that - disgusting. and you are right NS 1+2 was the russian plan to bypass eastern europe and relying on german internal weakness - AfD, BSW and Friedensbewegung (peace movments). but putin miscalculated a lot of things, normally dictators don't survive such mistakes. in my opinion russia allready lost the war, the question is will ukraine loose too?

    "Destroyed southern europe" the Greek and Italian governments did that.
    "Funded Russia for two decades" true, but Russia became dependent on Europe too and it's hurt Russia a lot more than it's hurt Europe.
    "Made half of Europe dependent on Russian energy." Only made Germany dependent on Russian energy and that was solved in 197 days.
    "Immigration crisis" Germany didn't destabilise Syria, etc.
    "Destroyed Europe's two party system" This one is complete nonsense, only the UK and France had a two-party system and they still have.
    "Revived nationalist right" The nationalist right gets its funding elsewhere.
    "Europe never recovered from 2008" Not really relevant. Germany doesn't run Europe or the ECB.
    With respect to "high" gas prices. Natural gas in Europe now costs less than before the 2022 invasion.
    There is room for a discussion of how the ECB policy favours Northern European countries, but this may not be the place.
