      That's right.
      Making carbon fiber parts takes a lot of time and devotion.
      And it is a difficult task.
      However, I want to share the knowledge I know with people.

    How essential is the gel coat to your projects? Can it be skipped most of the time, or maybe use resin instead?
    Do you ever bake your carbon or just let it dry at room temp.
    Do you clear coat the parts or always use uv resin as top layer?

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  5 років тому +3

      Hello, Buddy~
      The gelcoat is very important in carbon fiber skinning.
      In carbon fiber skinning, It can attachment replace to epoxy resins or spray adhesives.
      But, The black gelcoat can cover the surface of the parts in black.
      If the base color of the parts is not black or darkness color, the base color may look fine after carbon fiber skinning.
      Also, the gelcoat is very strong.
      The finish of the surface uses epoxy resin topcoat or clear car spray.
      I think the best surface finish is the epoxy resin topcoat.
      Because epoxy resins make a stronger surface than clear sprays.
      I hope you helpful.

    Another amazing job! I see on your video you leave the carbon fibre 'hanging' over the edges of the trim piece and then cut the excess off with a knife whereas on other videos I have seen they tuck the cloth underneath the trim piece and tape it and then cut it off with a knife or Dremel like tool. Which way is easier or better?

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  4 роки тому +2

      Hello, Buddy!
      When skinning carbon fiber, it is important to scratch the surface of the plastic parts by using very rough sandpaper.
      The gel coat is absorbed by the strong scratches and helps to firmly attach the carbon fiber cloth.

      hi,I recommend that the surface needs sandblasting at least ,Because the black glue is difficult to adhere at the chrome surface。

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  4 роки тому +1

      Hello, Buddy!
      When skinning, carbon fiber uses one layer.
      It is very thin and is approximately 0.3-0.5 mm thick.
      It's just skinning, so it doesn't care about thickness, weight, and stiffness.

    Why use gelcoat black for glue and dont use epoxy resin?

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  5 років тому +2

      There are several reasons for using a black epoxy gel coat.
      First, it is black so you can cover the base color of the parts.
      If the base color is not black, you may see the base color between the carbon fibers after skinning.
      Second, gelcoat has a very high viscosity.
      Epoxy resin with low viscosity can cause epoxy resin to flow down of parts.
      I hope you helpful.

      I am looking forward to the next video! I already purchased the cheap vacuum bags and pump to do my project on my motorcycles. Your videos gave me lots of ideas to do a good job on the budget! Have you ever done a dry infusion with the equipment you use in the videos? That would be an awesome experiment!

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  5 років тому +1

      I didn't work on infusion.
      Of course I want to do Infusion.
      But I work at home (apartment), so I'm a little worried about the noise of the vacuum pump.
      So I'm thinking about Infusion.
      I'll try it if I get a chance!
      I will give you another good idea!
      Thanks you.

      Hello, Buddy!
      I bought materials from a Korean online shop.
      However, Korean online shops do not ship overseas.
      So I'm going to show you an online shop in the UK.
      Maybe you can find what you want.
      Also, if you want skinning, I recommend 240g carbon fiber cloth.

    Is the Chamude fabric similar to suede or Alcantara?

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  5 років тому

      Hello, Buddy!
      Chamude fabric is very similar to Alcantara and is cheap.
      Alcantara is very expensive.
      If I've used Alcantara, it's probably cheaper to buy genuine bmw parts.

      +Deepan Patel It is very simple.
      I just carefully cut it off with a knife.
      Because one layer of carbon fiber is very thin than one thought, you can cut it enough with a knife.

      Hello, Buddy!
      I'm using a normal (slow) hardener.
      I know that some hardeners have a short curing time, but I use normal ones.
      Sometimes waiting for hardening time is a bit boring. ^^

    Hey can you do a video of putting epoxy over a cf vinyl wrap like 3m 1080. If it holds up I think that would be a lot easier.

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  4 роки тому

      Hello, Buddy!
      Are you talking about carbon fiber vinyl?
      I thought of it too, but vinyl cannot reproduce a real carbon perfectly.
      I like real carbon fiber.
      Carbon fiber vinyl is not planned.
      I'm sorry.

    • @Nguyen2fold
      @Nguyen2fold 4 роки тому

      @@ECOLAPStudio thanks for the reply, yes I'm talking carbon fiber vinyl. The 3m 1080 series looks just like real cf. It would be a lot cheaper I assume to. I would just say to try it. It would be a good video to do real carbon vs vinyl carbon on 2 of the same pieces. Just do small easy pieces you can throw away, not anything on your car. Maybe you may find it easier, cheaper, less time consuming, with same outcome.... I assume it's safe to apply epoxy over a wrap correct? I see it done on custom yeti cups. The missing factor of these wraps is the true gloss effect which you can achieve with epoxy.
