My cat was diagnosed with Stage 2 kidney failure one year ago. He always drank a lot of water, but was not grooming himself, and had lost some weight. I give him Azodyl twice daily and 200 ml of sub q fluids twice a week. Vet had expected him not to last the year but he has maintained his weight and is a feisty orange cat as we reach December. I'm aware of his condition so I give him lots of love and pray for him to hang on as long as possible.

My furry buddy was diagnosed just a few months ago with early kidney disease. Blood tests, ultrasound, diet changes all done. Looking at the tips here there doesn't seem to be much more I can do. I have cat fountains, feed lots of wet food, and so on. Ultimately nature and wear and tear catch up with all animals. Here's hoping for some more years with my furkid!

I had to give subcut fliuds for kidney disease towards the end. The vet xray him, they found masses in his lungs. So my puss had to leave me.
The vet could see I was looking after him, but the growth was far worse

The vast majority of commercially produced cat food isn't healthy for cats not only because the food is ultra-processed but because of the poor ingredients, which doesn't contain real meat, fish and chicken. Instead I feed my cats, even feral cats, low sodium home cooked meals. Some of my feral cats have lived over a decade, without any noticeable signs of disease, showing such a diet works. For those who still believe they must feed their cats manufactured food, I would opt for cat food that contains real meat, fish and chicken such as Purina One.

I would rather recommend Almo Nature , Cosma Nature as Purina One and many other cat foods contain cereals and...sugar like many products from Nestle

@@andreau.4616 Thanks for the suggestions and I'm pretty sure there are other options if one is willing to pay the price. The reason why I suggested Purina One was because it is economically priced and contains real meat, chicken and fish and less fillers than most national brand cat food. Being that cats are obligate carnivores, it would make sense to avoid feeding them fillers altogether--the reason I fed my cats mostly freshly cooked chicken with fish interspersed.

I have been told that wet food is better for their bodies than constantly feeding dry food. And feed not much fish.

The diets given to me for my 17 year old cat in kidney failure had rice in it and was not anything she would eat. I decided to give her a diet very high in nutrition but very low in anything else but water. She gained back her weight, shiny fur, & became active again & lived for 10 months instead of the two that had been predicted. I gave her filtered water so her kidneys didn't need to filter it. For a base for the food, I used a spoon of wet canned food with enough water to make it a thin gravy or soup. They do like it not so gummy and it gets more water into them. Then I stirred in one capsule of dessicated liver (order online or obtain from a health food store), vitamin C crystals about the amount the size of a match head, & part of capsule of L-lysine. I gave her that every 3-4 hours during the day and once in the middle of the night with plenty of fresh filtered water available at all times. I believe that reduces the work the kidneys must do. It is also a formula that has brought back very ill cats that seemed beyond help. They were given this once a day & regular food as well if their kidneys were not a problem. This seems to be a miracle formula. Older cats can benefit with the addition of the dessicated liver each day also. It can give them more energy and sleeker coats without the grey fur around their faces.

Neglected teeth can cause kidney disease. I get my cat’s teeth cleaned (by a veterinarian) once a year plus I feed him a 1/4 cup of specially formulated cat food for his tarter problem. The rest of his diet is wet food so I don’t have to worry about making sure he gets enough water. I had heard that dry food is the worst thing you can feed your cat but I don’t know if it is inherently bad or if it is only bad if a cat doesn’t drink enough water.

I use a water distiller for myself and my cat..the sediment left inside is cloudy. I do not feed my cat kibble, just pate food..and crunchy treats.

I had a mother cat and only one kitten (our of 3) stayed with us. But it was not kidney faillure that costed her life. She lived about 6 years... when she died on the operation table. And yes she was really shy and only trusted me, because I took her in. She probably died of tumors in her belly. That mentality she passed on to the son, that I kept too.
He died about 3 years later.... Yes he did not like visitors either. Both of them only trusted me,
But her son, became an Alfa male, at least to other cats. Dogs and other humans scared him nevertheless. And he too had tumors in his tummy.
But those cats were alsways all right... even, when they thought about dying, they both returned to me within 2 days.
The vetenarians never thought of kidney disease, but still in (and before) the early stages of Corona... they died on the operation table or just before this operation.
    Can this be kidney disease?
Me and the Vetenarians... dit not think so, we all thought that it was a DNA faillure. But can this be true?
