- Track 1 - The Virgin Queen
Performed by Medieval Baebes.
Taken from the BBC series, worth a watch for all History fans.
Personally, I think that this is the best version of a portrayal of Queen Elizabeth the 1st, and even better features a young Tom Hardy as her love interest...!
I hope this soundtracks can be one day put on spotify 😭
The only thing I dislike about this song is that it’s WAY too short. I love this song so much I wish it was several minutes longer
This is my favorite version of Queen Elizabeth's I life. Anne Marie Duff was absolutely amazing. The lyrics from this song actually come from a poem Elizabeth wrote. This is my favorite soundtrack, ever. I'm now a huge' Medieaval Baebes' fan.
+Stephanie Sunderland Me too!!
And she actually had the weird shaved high forehead that was super popular back in the day! It's the first time I've seen an accurately depicted Elizabeth I! :D
I do love the soundtrack, but my favourite series on Elizabeth I is Elizabeth R (it was made in the 70s, it's an oldie but a goodie, if you haven't seen it, I recommend it, all the episodes are here on YT). It's the only series I know of to pick an actress for Mary I who actually looked like her historical counterpart. Mary's mother, Catherine of Aragon, was Spanish, but neither of them had the swarthy Mediterranean look Mary has in The Virgin Queen or Catherine (played by the same actress) has in Wolf Hall. They were both actually quite pale and had reddish-blonde hair and blue eyes.
Stephanie Sunderland I've just watched it and I agree
I think, of course, that It's better more than the earliest famous screen version. 'The other Boleyn Girl' kind is also a true wonderful story and film.
my favourite part of this mini series is when they open up her ring and there's a portrait of anne boleyn in there. made me smile
Made me cry... poor Elizabeth
That strong..
That scene put a tear in my old eyes. 🥺
Thank you for this association.
We all queens in the heart of Lord.
{ jesus } Who knows..
🌙🙏💛🤍🤍
"My care is like my shadow,
Laid bare beneath the sun.
It follows me at all times,
And flies when I pursue it."
"I freeze and yet am always burned.
Since from myself again I turn,
I love and yet am forced to hate,
I seem stark mute; inside I prate."
"My care is like my shadow,
Laid bare beneath the sun.
It follows me at all times,
And flies when I pursue it."
"I love and yet am forced to hate,
I seem stark mute; inside I prate:
Some gentler love doth ease itself,
Into my heart and mind.
For I am soft and made of snow.
Love, be more cruel or so be kind."
This brilliant drama had the most realistic Tudor Teeth I've ever seen on screen.
This is some of the best soundtrack music I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. I keep watching the docudrama for it (and for Tom Hardy, of course, who could resist that Puckish smile?)
I didnt know Tom Hardy was in this! Now I have to watch it again!
@@babigyrl5 he played Robert Dudley, Elizabeths favourite ;)
When he dies her heart ache. I sobbed
He does have some of the most beautiful lips!
Pleasure ?
The poem, written by Queen Elizabeth I:
"I grieve and dare not show my discontent;
I love, and yet am forced to seem to hate;
I do, yet dare not say I ever meant;
I seem stark mute, but inwardly do prate.
I am, and not; I freeze and yet am burned,
Since from myself another self I turned."
"My care is like my shadow in the sun --
Follows me flying, flies when I pursue it,
Stands, and lies by me, doth what I have done;
His too familiar care doth make me rue it.
No means I find to rid him from my breast,
Till by the end of things it be suppressed."
"Some gentler passion slide into my mind,
For I am soft and made of melting snow;
Or be more cruel, Love, and so be kind.
Let me or float or sink, be high or low;
Or let me live with some more sweet content,
Or die, and so forget what love e'er meant."
wow I didn't know Elizabeth I wrote poetry! That's beautiful :)
Elizabeth was a genius.
No she wasn't
Her biggest legacy, was destroying the protestant/catholic conflict by creating the Church of England, to unite the people, and stop strife.
The Queen was likely an Athiest, and saw beyond the strife.
I seem to recall that the conflict continued for quite some time after that. Penny for the guy?
Kep queen elizabeth did not create the church of England. Henry VIII created the church of England. queen elizabeth was a protestant unlike queen mary, who was a strict Catholic and opposed the church of England
This was awesome. I won a copy of this music on CD through the BBC competition at the time. I was well happy! 😂
I just finished watching this for the third time. The soundtrack always sticks in my head. I'm thrilled to see it available here.
This song gives me chills! I love it.
Yes same it is amazing
I was so excited when I bought this movie! My absolute favorite of Queen Elizabeth the first!!!!
Respect for this queen!
From France.

My care is like my shadow

The lyrics are from one of Queen Elizabeth's own poems.

Not exactly but definitely heavily based off of! The poem referenced is in the comments of the video:)

Vikki Clark Me too. Elisabeth I was special. I would love to tell her that.
What is the poem's name?
I really love this track from the virgin queen! :D
@@Robin-yj7gj 'Elizabeth, I was special!'. 👍👍

Happy Birthday and RIP your Majesty, your kingdom is intact and very strong.
This song is amazing and makes you think.
So very cool; love the blend of old and modern sounds. They work so well together.

The composer who wrote this music is BRILLIANT.
she was considered beautiful when she first ascended (before small pox) and is described as winsome and light, waving to the people from her caravan. People thought she was a good fairy come to save them after her sister's unpopularity
This music is like water. It's composition just flows without any jagged rocks.
This song inspires me
"Monsieur's Departure" - a heartfelt poem written by HRH herself back in the 16th c
This the music the story everything about this is amazing. I grew up watching it with my dad. Something we bonded over
I remember when i was very young and i happened to stumble upon this show on TV. When I heard this song in the credits I went to hell and back to find the soundtrack and when i found it was the mediaeval baebes, not only did i fall in love with them, but with the show and everything tudor/elizabethean. Thumbs up for medieaval baebes!
I just realized the lyrics are from Elizabeth I's poem, "On Monsieur's Departure." She wrote it when the Duke of Alençon left England.
So it's true. I just watched the miniseries with Helen Mirren as Elizabeth I and this poem was recited on voiceover when Duke of Anjou left by boat. Such powerful scene.
Back when the BBC put out great stuff
My favorite soundtrack. I can't get out of my head.
I love this song, because one, it's awesome sounding, and two, it's closely based off of a poem Elizabeth the first actually wrote!
god i love the lyrics to this song and the melody and chorus really is mesmerizing and soul-melting
Thank you so much for posting this no longer published album!
Finally found this!!!!! So beautiful!!!!
a musical masterpiece, so many thoughts run through my mind when i listen to this. i love it
I just love this song, I play it almost every day while I am working. Thanks for finding, and sharing the soundtrack
Just finished watching part 2 of the series, really enjoyed it and will be recommending it to everyone.

This is my favorite TV movie of ALL TIME. Fantastic!!
No sabía que esta reina fuera poetisa además, parece que era muy inteligente y demasiado avanzada para su tiempo

I like this.
Oh, to be a Queen, to be loved and feared in equal measure....I can only imagine what that is like.
Also, Mark the relationship to this theme and Victoria's theme! I adore it.
Beautiful piece of music that I can't get out of my head
Still love this music.
Still in my head. Just ❤.
i want to understand the workings of a mind that disliked this ....
The best !!! I Love it so much ! Trank you so much for this !!!
I love this series 💗💗 it's very detailed. This song is great.
I first watched this show when I was 11 I used to stay up late to finish it! One of the most beautiful soundtracks I’ve ever heard and it draws me back time and time again 🤍
Me too!! I might have even been younger. Just loved it and still listen to it
I am happy to live in the 21 century! Henry VIII a bastard!
Yes, he is. But his daughter is perfect!
Yes, he is. But his daughter is perfect!
If it were not for HENRY VIII...
That Queen would have never happened.
Thanks for uploading this - I have been looking for it ever since I heard it played over the closing credits for that series and loved it. :D
One of my all time favorite movies and soundtrack
A wonderful composition. And to imagine that the words were inspired by Queen Elizabeth I herself. Even though they were altered they still maintain the pain at which she felt keeping her secret love hidden whilst chasing after that ever elusive prize. Beautiful!
This takes me to another world 😌... The best meditative and peaceful song ever inspite of the beats. 😇
Quel film et quel musique , je suis envoûté
simply stunning music. it makes me think of dark windy evenings.
Very powerful lyrics, even more so since I learnd that it was taken from a poem that Elizabeth I wrote.
Remarkable she must have been!
I grieve and dare not show my discontent,
I love and yet am forced to seem to hate,
I do, yet dare not say I ever meant,
I seem stark mute but inwardly do prate.

And yes the above is the poem written by Elizabeth I
Loved this show and still do and the music is well good
Wonderful song..it reminds me of the movie which i just love
i keep listening to this awesome soundtrack
Beautiful, thank you!!!!
LOVE IT!!! Thanks for posting
Lyrics by queen Elizabeth - no really, its her poem.
Thank you for adding this! I LOVE the sound track and Queen Elizabeth the 1! :D
@Elizabeththequene
Thank you for the text. I love the song and the melody and now you helped me to understand it better. Thank you!!!
Regards....
This is my favoured and most accurate description. Although, once again relying on very limited evidence. But yes this one is deffos the one I like the most.
I am doing a piece of choreography to this! So amazing!
im listening this stunning song again..
your so right. i adored the series
This is such a beautiful music!
Such a beautiful song and I love how they used Elizabeth's poetry to write this song! :D
Great soundtrack!
Beautiful!!
Fabulous!
O melhoor!!!Amei tudo no filme, em especial a trilha. :)
This music is great, thank you
beautiful and haunting. I love it.
I find my self whistling the violin part to this a lot. I always forget it's part of this song. I love this song.
Great music and movie.
love this music
The percussions in the background remind me of those in traditional songs from the Maghreb at 0:52
Amazing song !!!!!
The lyrics of this song was got from the loem that she had written called "On Monsieur's Departure". All I love was the part of the song "For I am soft and made of snow", you remember one of her quotes saying "I am a weak and a feeble woman, but I have the stomach of a king, and a heart too"... It reminds me kind of that
O.O... Oh dear it's fabulous!
This version was more historically accurate than otehr versions I have seen. I love it, the music is very emotional and I'd like to buy the soundtrack if there was one
YES MUST BEAUTIFUL.
Sou apaixonado nessa poesia de Elizabeth.
My drama group used the first part of this song for the beginning of our production of Macbeth, I think I've listened to it so many times now, that I can recite all the words!
Amazing music
Hey hey hey! Great song. I have seen the first episode and i want see the second. I want this soundtrack to. Congrat for this and thanx. :)

Some gentler lover gaze inside into my heart and mind For I am soft and made of snow Love be more cruel or so be kind
