    Thanks for the video. Keep us informed, because the idea of using this screen in home automation is a good one. This screen could be in each room as a remote control where you can view and change climate settings, light, etc. It can be useful for your DIY smart heating system as a remote control in the room.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  3 роки тому +1

      I'm split between having it as a docked panel or personal device with screens to switch. The only downside is that "boot" from sleep mode takes a 3-4 seconds, but it could be triggered by being undocked from the wall

    • @meelismeiorg4484
      @meelismeiorg4484 3 роки тому

      @@notenoughtech I think it could be docked to the wall, but it can also be picked up if more use is needed. But the normal state would be on the wall and maybe also on the base with power connection.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  3 роки тому +1

      If connected to power in docked state, e-ink becomes redundant and useless in evening situations where the light isnt on. I would like to make a small pocket Social Media checker that displays recent notifications when connected.

    Very interested in using this or something similar as a HA dashboard The slower refresh rate doesn't matter for that sort of use.
    Also, it looks good as a dashboard. It's different to having an ipad stuck to the wall

  • @menadue

    Could you create a sketching type application on it? Is the touch system of a high enough resolution to allow drawing? Is the screen refresh rate fast enough?

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  3 роки тому

      I don't think you would be happy with the result. It would be possible to draw on it, the touch screen part is responsive but the refresh rate would lag behind

    • @menadue
      @menadue 3 роки тому

      @@notenoughtech That's what I thought. Does the touch system have pixel-ish level resolution? Or does it only have a few touch areas?

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  3 роки тому

      If you check the video when I was showcasing the touch, you can see the values changing for the touch coordination, the touchscreen is pretty accurate. Touches register well just screen takes moment to refresh and show actions.

    Hello, what about battery life? Did you measure the average discharge time after a full recharge?
    Thank!

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, I haven't measure due to the fact that it will depend on the sleep policies. E-INK uses next to nothing in refreshed state. I charged the device once since arrival (after xmas) and I still have 40% of the battery left as in the dormant state it doesnt take much power (only RTC is alive)

    • @verluc
      @verluc 3 роки тому +1

      @@notenoughtech Thanks a lot! The reason I was asking is that I bought this device and after I switched it on, the battery drained very quickly. Basically after 2 hours it was off. I just used the out of the box software. Did you change something from the sw perspective?
      Thanks

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  3 роки тому +1

      @@verluc ESP32 draws about 150mA -250mA depending on usage signal strength etc. The battery is 1050mAh which gives you about 4h in ideal circumstances. That's without taking in consideration the touchscreen, sensors and the display. I'd expect 2-3 h out of the device in constant use

    • @verluc
      @verluc 3 роки тому +2

      @@notenoughtech Ah, ok, it does make sense. So to make it last longer the sw must be tweaked appropriately. Thanks for the feedback!

      I am now testing it. It is running wifi (requesting NTP time and write to SD Once a minute) from 7:00 to 12:00 ... 5 hours. But the e-ink is good for a sleeping devide. I have test wifi, request a NTP time, write battery level to SD once per minute, and sleep (M5.shutdown(60) ) I was running this way almost 2 days. Now I am testing it running it once every 10 minutes, I can tell you when it finish.

      Nie próbowałem ale teoretycznie można by bylo to zrobić. Wymagało by to odpowiednich sterownikow aby ESP w środku wiedział co z tym zrobić. Nie będzie to banalny projekt. Zwłaszcza że zazwyczaj robi się to odwrotnie i to urządzenie z ESP wysyła sygnały klawiatury do komputera

    Would it be possible to use some thing like this like a map device?

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  3 роки тому

      Yes but bear in mind, it has no GPS built in, but you could get GPS via GROVE extension if you are interested in position tracking. But traditional maps could be loaded and displayed in a standby mode
