Yeah, he's just busy doing other projects. Don't assume just because he hasn't done one in a little while, that that somehow means he retired from stand-up. Stand-up is what made his career.
I'm oh bo yo Have you seen his shows? I sincerely doubt he truly quit, but just wants to take a hiatus from it at because of how difficult it is to write and perform his full shows.
Bo is so Amazing, he really genuinely tries to do everything with sincerity in it. I think, when I was at that age.... my life wouldn't be turned into a movie but... still... it felt big and like a movie for me. and he understood that... I don't know. i like how he made the movie and what he aims to strive for in the movie business
I think he's one of the few people that can do that well, at least for right now, because he went viral at 16 and was in the public eye around that time, so he knows what it's like to have an online persona and a irl persona
I agree with his point on sounding articulate in middle school. Your communication skills and your writing skills grow so much during your high school and college years. Middle school communication was really just a matter of trial and error and a process of continuously putting yourself out there.
I absolutely fucking love Bo. I wondered what he's been doing for a few years and I saw his name on the movie poster. I saw the movie same night. It's perfect.
He is so right about nerves being connected to internet. Like I couldn't use facebook in eighth grade and I can't use it now. Can't wait to watch this movie.
I envy Bo's ability to focus laser sharp on whatever work he's doing. I have A.D.D and am now experimenting with different medication to 'cure' it, at least the way you cure diabetes. Bo is an inspiration to all functioning brains. May I one day have even a smidgen of his normal brain functions.
im not sure for my take on this, but I do know that hes going back to stand up soon, he clearly stated that hes not over with stand up yet and he just took a long break
I never even heard of Bo or Elsie before I saw this movie. This movie, this writer/director &, of course, the lead are 3 of the best things I've seen in movies this year. Clearly they all deserve Oscar noms if not the statues themselves. This movie is about being human.
This movie is great, it felt real, like I was watching real live events that are happening at. the. moment. from kayla's eyes, rather than just watching a huge play or a certain scenario. Funny enough I actually felt like I relate to this more now(I'm an 11th grader in high school) than I could've when I was in eighth grade, Im lonely and I have less friends than I've had back then, so I could understand what she was feeling. Although our school system is very different in the middle East,(uniforms, no freshman or senior, just grades, no graduation parties, school was the size of mini super market, and we we are learning by the British ig system instead of American) I could still relate to and understand her, at least to an extent, because these feelings are real, and just like no said, we are all eighth graders in our own way, no matter how different our lifestyle can be, we can still these emotions of awkwardness and social anxiety and change because we all are flawed humans at the end of the day.hes come so far, I'm proud of bo for creating this, what a godamn roller-coaster
@4:39 What are you saying? Katherine B? Katherine Diaz? Sorry, I would love to hear the influences but I can't quite distinguish the letters there, anyone care to help me out?
Julia Trušćek why would you even think that? It hasn’t even went through the theater or dvd circuit yet. If Netflix even gets the rights to stream it it’s not gonna happen this year or any time soon.
Catherine Breillat? If so I hope he saw "Fat Girl", and '36 Fillette" both deal with teens 12 for Fat Girl and 14 for 36 Fillette. Yes I Breillat's films and have most of them. Can't wait to see "Eighth Grade"
"i couldn't believe a guy wrote this" what the hell? as a guy, eighth grade was a fucking anxiety inducing and extremely surreal experience for me - that's not a gendered thing.
The movie does specifically touch A LOT on the anxiety that specifically young women face, though. So much of what Kayla sees and stresses about in the movie is based on physical appearance. Remember the pool party scene when the mom calls all the girls over for a photo? Those middle school girls were wearing skimpy 2-pieces, pushing out their chests, trying to look “sexy” - it’s super disturbing and you can tell Kayla felt so uncomfortable in her body and wanted to be like them. Meanwhile, the boys still play in the pool, spraying each other with squirt guns and being actual middle schoolers. Girls experience middle school much differently than boys - the fact that Bo was able to tap into that in such a genuine way is incredible to me.
Bo is so fucking perfect and wonderful. I miss his stand up but I'm proud of him for doing this
Marissa Smith He hasn't retired from doing that, you know.
George really? That's good news to me.
Yeah, he's just busy doing other projects. Don't assume just because he hasn't done one in a little while, that that somehow means he retired from stand-up. Stand-up is what made his career.
I'm oh bo yo That literally means he is still doing stand up, but he doesn't want to plan and write any big specials like what. and Make Happy.
I'm oh bo yo Have you seen his shows? I sincerely doubt he truly quit, but just wants to take a hiatus from it at because of how difficult it is to write and perform his full shows.
Hahahah “I didn’t say a complete sentence till I was 24”
"We wanted the internet to be a character in the movie, kind of" genius. no other word for it. genius.
Holy shit, a girl actor that actually looks like someone I’d see in school, that’s new
Bo is so Amazing, he really genuinely tries to do everything with sincerity in it.

ugh I hate how much I love Bo
never waste a moment every moment can become a comedy moment
I miss bo’s stand up, also wow! His voice deepened like a lot
He is so right about nerves being connected to internet. Like I couldn't use facebook in eighth grade and I can't use it now. Can't wait to watch this movie.

To hear about the little details “BO” put in this Movie is Amazing.
Jesus he actually grew up
He seems much happier creating in this way compared to stand up
im not sure for my take on this, but I do know that hes going back to stand up soon, he clearly stated that hes not over with stand up yet and he just took a long break
yEET IM EXCITED
MsPotatobag he was just so happy being able to do so well in the movie.
His comedy was a criticism that nothing was real in art anymore, so I guess it evolved into deciding to create that art himself.
I knooowwww! It's so beautiful, i love him
5:10. He mentions Old Enough. I love that movie!
I never even heard of Bo or Elsie before I saw this movie. This movie, this writer/director &, of course, the lead are 3 of the best things I've seen in movies this year. Clearly they all deserve Oscar noms if not the statues themselves. This movie is about being human.
Check out Bos comedy stand up on Netflix it's really unique and genius

Dan Isacsson Same! I thought it was Villa? And no closed captioned 😩
Dan Isacsson Catherine Breillat. She made the movies Fat Girl and Anatomy of Hell.
Thank you Matt!
Thanks!
Catherine Breillat made more than "Fat Girl" & "Anatomy of Hell". She also made "A Real Young Girl", "36 Fillette", & "Sex is Comedy"
Who's the filmmaker mentioned around 4:40? I couldn't quite catch her name!
I also want to know
@@ceribralboy4468 Catherine Breillat

Time is unforgiving to our actions.
Look no further than here.
Does anyone know, will Eight Grade be on Netflix anytime soon?
Julia Trušćek It literally has not been released in theatres yet. If it ever gets to Netflix it won’t be for at tre very least half a year.
Joshua Kilimnik Oh, okay, thank you.
A24 films go to Amazon Prime first bc of their deal, so I wouldn’t count on a Netflix release for a couple years
Julia Trušćek why would you even think that? It hasn’t even went through the theater or dvd circuit yet. If Netflix even gets the rights to stream it it’s not gonna happen this year or any time soon.
Of course not. It's a good movie
Bo is a genius.
