4:02 I've had had situation in which the hired hand bounces, hits the scepter, and misplaces it so that you end up losing it, so what I do is, after leaving the scepter there I grab the hired hand and drop it in a corner.
"this thing you suggested is a terrible idea, this item you used is awful and useless" Lol do people not understand there are six million ways to play the game? You're just suggesting a method you found works really well and turns 7-99 into a different sort of challenge, it's any player's choice whether to try it out or not
True. Everyone plays the game a little bit differently. It’s the beauty of rogue likes. It’s a fair point though. Yellow cape might even take more skill with platforming for the average players compared to jetpack. Especially if you don’t have springs + climbers. I’ve heard of a few players getting their first win with the mustard cape though so I thought it was worth mentioning.
Oh you meant the Scepter not the Yellow cape didn’t you. Whoops. My brain lagged. Yeah 100% agree, thanks. I can’t take credit for the idea though. I got the idea from an old Reddit post where someone posted their first win and it was with the Scepter
@@creativeusernvme I didn't mean anything in particular, I saw two people that were criticizing multiple things you recommended/suggested in the video (including ever using a parachute as well as just the entire concept) in the most general manner possible. Not even because they thought you could have done it in a better way or you weren't clear on anything, just because they couldn't fathom how something radically different from what they did could possibly be viable. It's kind of absurd to me.
Oh i gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. Appreciate the sentiment. I can’t blame them though tbh I’m the same way to a point. Everyone thinks they know the “best” way to play and they’ll let you know! It’s probably not a bad idea to challenge those ideas but I do wish they’d word it a bit more politely at times. Thanks for watching 🙏
Me personally about the dart traps, you only use bombs to break them if they will go into the loop, If not if rope bcz you never know when that one bomb could save the run
All of this I already knew except the don't be worried about spending resources part. Everyone else always says use the clone gun at the sun challenge for 99 ropes and bombs...that way you get 1.09 bombs per level in the cosmic. That is also the most recent Elden Ring patch...lolz. And bombs can be easy or super hard to find dependant on rng. But, I'm no expert despite my 2000 hours with this game. 7-51 is my pb so I must be doing something wrong. Though if I had to guess...I would say only about 2% if not less of people who have bought this game have even made it to the ocean. Probably .1% of people reach 7/99.
Literally i played years ago and barely beat game easy ending. Started playing again recently and just made it to 7-3 today (died) (my furthest). If I can get to the point whereI kill Hundun and/or Ankh skip + Tiamat skip consistently only then would I start to attempt cosmic runs
Switching jetpack for cape is aweird advice, if you don't want a bomb on your back just bring vlad's cape, if you are attempting 7-99 you should know how to do vlad's cape skip
I have a friend who recently got his first 7-99 with the yellow cape so I thought it was worth mentioning as an option. Is it the best option? Nah. Would I personally prefer a yellow cape over a Jetpack? Nah. Is it an option if you’d rather not lose your run to a looping Magmar or Flaming Olmite? Yes. Also I agree that learning Vlads cape skip is a useful skill especially if you go the temple route but only a very small percent of players can do V.C.S (way more can do Jetpack Qilin skip) so should a very small percent of players be the only ones who attempt 7-99? I don’t think so.
Great guide. Scepter is underrated and underused; and naturally its tips and tricks are less discussed. There were a lot here that I didn't know, especially what Scepter hits and what it doesn't. Thanks. Also, seeing you call him "(van) Horsing" makes me think you are a 596er 😉 I wonder if Dan saw your guide before finishing his first 7-99.
Hey thanks for the nice comment. It means a lot. Oh yeah Dan Gheesling is awesome! Ah I doubt he’s seen it that would be neat though haha. His chat gave him all the advice he needed to get 7-99
Wow, I’d never considered this. While there are still many ways CO can screw you, if you know what you’re doing and play skilfully this gets rid of a lot of problems, mainly curse and poison.
Hey thanks! Good luck with the Scepter runs if you go for it. I’d also recommend trying to bring the Plasma Cannon to Cosmic Ocean if you don’t like how the Scepter plays. It takes some getting use to but it’s essentially infinite bombs in Cosmic Ocean. Super handy. Thanks for watching!
I mostly would just reset on 1-2 store until I got mobility unfortunately. Super boring. Other than that I used seeded runs when the game wouldn’t give me a jetpack. On the seed 00000001 there’s a jetpack in the crust on the 1-1 entrance. You just bomb the tiles under the entrance. Good practice seed 👍
@@creativeusernvme do you utilize the alum skip without jetpack often? Just trying to figure out which skips are worth learning since I am now going to be attempting bring the scepter. (Thanks again for the replies)
Fun fact: quilin skip is not necessary you have 3 options to not skip:1: 2 hired hands 2:1 hired hand if you dont grab the plasma cannon 3:enslave your coop friends
It’s not necessary? You have to use the Scepter to open the door to City of Gold in order to get the tablet in Duat, no? I’m curious on how you keep the Scepter and still get the tablet. That would be really cool if there’s a way
honestly that is actually pretty good to get your first win in 50 hours. The skill ceiling for this game is nigh on infinite. You are only at the beginning of your journey. Good luck!
I took just short of 100 to beat Tiamat for the first time. Mostly because I spent lots of time trying to go directly to Hundun, but still... 50 hours is good.
as much as it would be the most legendary moment ever, idk if i wanna bank on a 1 in 100 chance in a game with as much other luck based stuff as spelunky 2
Yeah it probably is for most players. Just depends on whether you’re confident around fire damage or not. I think since you’re not dealing with enemies as well on Scepter runs the lack of double jump doesn’t hurt that much. It’s all preferences and only a suggestion. Thanks for watching Aaron!
@@creativeusernvme While I do think changing to a red cape is good if you're not confident around fire damage, I don't think changing to yellow cape is good even in that situation.
@@TheLeviathan1293 Yeah fair point. My reasoning with the Yellow Cape is that more players can do the Jetpack Qilin Skip than the Vlads Cape Skip. Also some people (like myself) don’t feel comfortable strapping a blue bomb to your back for 90+ levels haha. Just trying to make 7-99 more accessible to the average player 😊
Congrats on the CO win. I have 65 Cosmic Ocean wins, three of them were with the Scepter and they were by far the easiest wins I’ve gotten.
