I thought I heard them all. Those dozens of beautiful interpretations of Bach’s famous “Air”. And then I stumble over this amazingly precious piece of Gulda! What a complement!
How many times I've listened to this performance?! God knows! And the phrase coming in my head about Gulda (without even knowing him or having seen him in person) is this: "What a beautiful man!" . The irony here is he's joking a bit with the other pianists while playing, and through the humour of his joke, STILL, comes out such a beautiful, natural, balanced performance for which he needs very little help from his body language or facial expression while playing. This is the most beautiful performance of the Air I've heard to this date on the piano. R.I.P Gulda.
"langsam" ist auch wichtig , damit es seine "wirkung" entfalten kann ... viele jüngere heutzutage verstehen das halt nicht mehr oder haben das gefühl dafür schlichtweg verloren ... wundern tät's mich nicht !
Besser geht nicht. Hätte Bach ein Hammerklavier gehabt, hätte er es vermutlich genau so gespielt. In großer Ehrfurcht lieber Friedrich Gulda, unvergessen.
As I say somewhere else here, this is my favorite interpretation on UA-cam besides Stokowski orchestration. And I must actually rank this higher because he is alone at the piano, making it sound quite improvisational, which is very much in tune with baroque style, and the feeling, the ornamentations, almost as if here were playing a stringed instrument sometimes; the bringing out of unexpected inner voices, some of which might be improvised....... Just beautiful. I don't care whether it's faithful to the baroque style or not. Many have their own interpretations, including Siloti and Busoni of Bach.
I venture to disagree. I first came across him 50ish years ago and he was highly rated at the time. It may be a question about the context in which you know him. He may have been misunderstood and disliked by people who couldn't handle his style, but he was always very highly regarded by very many music lovers.
Best arrangement of the Air. Better than Martucci’s (imperial) and Siloti’s (blah), better because it is peaceful, measured, without an excess of ornaments. Magical. Does anyone know if there is a transcription of it anywhere to be purchased or downloaded ? Many thanks !!!
Relax. It's obviously a casual and informal environment where he's a guest on a show or something. And it actually kind of goes with the very improvisational style he shows. Absolutely beautiful, the best interpretation I've heard on UA-cam besides Stokowski's orchestration.

If you are fortunate enough to be in resonance with Gulda, he can bring you somewhere that I have not experienced with any other musician.

Grosse
Kunst. R.I.P
He ain’t joking
@@theinvisibleman-e8v I ain't!
The most beautiful Air on the G string I have ever heard…
And it exists people who don't like music...This music is perfection on earth as majestic as the sound of the ocean.
We all have our limitations. I am fortunate enough to have a decent level of musicality. Nothing special, but decent.
Genial. Gulda spielt Bach.
Another Planet. Thanks Gulda.
Thanks for saying what i ran out of words for
You honor Bach in your playing. Thank you❤
Er hat das Stück verstanden. Langsam, aber mit Zusammenhalt. Er war einer der Besten.

Now. These three fantastic talents are playing together on the heavens. Yes. I truly believe in the afterlife.
With their beloved friend Johann Sebastian
@@MrTonellibruno 100% true. I couldn't have said better...
Er ist ein wahrer Künstler! Mit Herz und Seele beherrscht Friedrich Gulda das Instrument!

Glad I found this interpretation. It's the best one. ❤

I have a CD of Gulda playing Concert no. 5 "Emperor" and I think it's the best execution of it I ever heard..., great pianist and man he was. R.I.P.
OUTSTANDING performance.
Tellement émouvant. Merci. Cordialement. Olivier F
Nádherně zahrané ❤❤❤
Tempo v pořádku a ne ty pomalé verze.
Děkuji a velká poklona❤❤❤
einfach wundervoll
Gulda !! tan simple, tan complejo, siempre asombroso.
Gracias !
Aaah, was für ein Genuss! ❤
einfach wunderschön
goosebumps
Best performance ever I heard
He was one of the most underrated pianists of his generation .......an absolute master.........and a superb musician!

Beautiful!
Maravilla.
Beautiful 🎶
we love Gulda
This is heaven
Oh my god, this is the perfection rip Gulda
How thrilling!
The facial expression of Chic and Nicolas says it all...what a beautiful perfomance.
Merci mon Dieu... Merci Gulda.❤
Perfeito em cada detalhe
Absolutely beautiful ❤

The best version on the world
Kissing the sky.
J S Bach sounds so lovely on the piano. I'm currently learning the Prelude in B flat minor, BWV 867, and would also love to learn this Air.
same here, only right now
Just adorable

PM me
Where can the transcription be found?
that its true
Siloti "blah?" It's exactly what Bach wrote in the Suite. Nothing much different at all.
@@keva.3856 if you know which transcription this is, would you please be able to share the info?

Mooi!!!!
Ottima interpretazione 👏
R.I.P herr Gulda
Not a Gulda fan but this is great😊
Count yourself among the lucky ones. You are able and willing to appreciate greatness, when it is shown by those whom you do not really favour.
Someone to share the sheet music of this version please ! 🙏

@@monelleny Hi, I did send you my email here. I think the moderator of the video, or UA-cam. deleted it.
Is that Chick Corea in black?
Listen to this interpretation and do not try to imitate it! You won‘t succeed! Better hearing it every day instead of ruining this fine music.
The best completion 3:01

I REALLY wonder who were the 3 idiots to dislike this?
High quality makes some people nervous.
Does anyone know which transcription this is, and is it available anywhere?
Probably this is Friedrich Gulda's own transcription! :D
It is clearly his own trascription !
This is most likely an improvisation. The closest you'll get is Alexander Siloti's transcription.
get me your e mail. l' will send you PDF file.
