I was a school teacher and all that organization is about 1% of what I did. Definitely homeschool your kids. Love them, educate them, and be there for them. So many parents believe that school will take care of their learning, but this is a huge misconception and even an impossible task for teachers since we easily have over 100 students.

I do homeschool and I love it! I used to do full time public school, but it wasn’t the right fit for me so I am now at a Christian co-school which means I am homeschooled 3 days a week and I go into school for like 2 hours 2 times a week

In my state, they require the children to be in homeschool sessions during the exact hours that they would be in public school. It’s ridiculous. I haven’t started doing it yet but I’m looking for a way around this.

    • @goldenlady6267
      @goldenlady6267 14 днів тому +1

@klc7275 I know it seems ridiculous, but you can make it work. Take the core subjects and schedule them out. Schedule out bathroom breaks, brain breaks and transitions. These are all things that occur in brick and mortar school. Then align all of your life skills with subject matter. Making breakfast and lunch together can easily include math and science skills. Add PE, music and art classes, project based learning. Before you know it, there’s too much to fit in the day! Don’t forget the field trips to the libraries and museums. I wouldn’t stick rigidly to the schedule, as long as you get it in is what counts.

Definitely make sure you can keep at it (and/or admit if it doesn't end up working) before you commit! My mom burnt out by the time we got to multiplication, and up until this year (19) I never learned any science, history, never had p.e. or anything. The only reason I finished my education was because I enrolled in my community college's GED program. Homeschooling can be great in some circumstances and literally life-ruining in others, and a lot of that is up to the parents! Make sure that you're super prepared and have a backup plan or two ready to go when things get rough!

So he attends school online. He likes to do his school work late in the evening and sleep in. I teach online and in on Outschool which is another great option for homeschoolers or any kids 3 to 18. My son is 18 and will graduate high school in four weeks. He also played varsity baseball all through high school. He played on a high school team that played against all the high schools in our area that he would have played against if he attend a brick and mortar high school. There are so many options.i said I would never homeschool. Never say never.

Not even gonna bring up how weirdly homophobic he was and socially stunted he was on top of being a biblical literlist who couldn't do his times tables.
If you're gonna homeschool, dont cherrypick knowledge. Kids aren't vanity projects because they leave that bubble eventually and they suffer greatly because of it.
Please take home schooling seriously if your serious, there are kids that do need it and are special cases. Its not a DIY quarky brainwashing kids power play.

Read the book “hold on to your kids” (by G.Neufeld and G.Maté) to learn more about why society pressures parents so much to “socialize” their kids by exposing them to peers. Kids do not have to be surrounded by kids every single day to be “socialized” and I really wish people would stop threatening parents with that.

As someone who was homeschooled k-12 I **strongly** disagree. It was genuinely traumatizing only ever being able to talk to my family (I know how silly that sounds, but I literally have to be medicated for this) and literally nobody else, and almost all of my mental health issues link back to my social isolation. If I'm by myself for more than 5 minutes I immediately start to dissociate because my brain can't handle the stress of being alone. I do agree that there are some situations where homeschooling is 100% necessary, but isolating your children will never not hurt them. Find someone like-minded, find homeschool-specific clubs if you must, but make sure that they have a chance to make (irl) friends because I was literally suicidal at 10 over this shit

I'm going to give you all some advice. I was homeschooled until 5th grade and was given little to no social interaction. My eldest brother had plenty, but my siblings and I didn't have all that much. We were just expected to cheer on our brother while all of our interests weren't considered. I wanted to play soccer but they wouldn't let me. They would let me do art related activities, but they wouldn't let me do sports or join any clubs. Even those didn't last long and I was a good kid. My siblings got to do 4-H. I didn't. I couldn't really do anything since I was "young". The only people I got to talk to were adults and even then I couldn't talk to them. I didn't really have people I could call my "friends". Then they would get mad whenever my siblings made friends online. If you shelter them to the point where they have to beg to go outside, don't get angry when they make friends online.
Along with that I didn't get a good education during those years. I was just expected to "know". I had to read and just "know". I didn't get help with my school work and I didn't know what was going on. I would ask my parents and they wouldn't really do anything. All the attention went to my siblings because they had autism and disabilities. I was just forgotten because I wasn't disabled.
After spending years convincing them, I finally was able to go to private school before moving to a public school. Then whenever I was behind and the way they taught school, they would get mad at my grades even though it was completely their fault I was struggling. I was trying...really!
Here is some advice: When you homeschool, make sure it's the best thing to do for your kids. It's great you want to challenge your kids and give them the best education possible, but if they don't have any friends and can't go out and do stuff, it's not worth it. Your kids will grow up to be miserable and lonely just like I did. Trust me. If you can't balance your child's social and academic life, it's probably best to enroll them in a private or public school. Homeschooling isn't for everyone just like public schooling isn't for everyone. Also, STICK WITH IT. Let your kids engage in the activity. Don't just set them in front of a computer or book all day. That only hurts them. Instead, actually teach and then have them do that stuff. Let them ask questions. Let them ask for help. Let them do projects. Let them have friends. Let them do different things. If you chose to homeschool your kids, there should be no reason you can't let them have a good social life. No excuses.

I am sorry to you experienced that. That seems very tough situation. I wish your parents were there to help you with your needs.
I was not homeschooled. I live in a country where homeschooling is banned still. I went to private boarding school for 12 years. And I had a very tough experience there. Struggle of connecting with friends. I felt very isolated and lonely. I had opportunity to join clubs and other things, which I was grateful for, but socialization is not promised just because you go to normal school. My struggle also comes from my parents who were not so interested in my life, but there are many sides to this problem, not just homeschooling or traditional school. The most important thing is for children to know their parents care and love them. Without that, socialization is hard even where there is people around you
I hope you are doing well now

This is so true. I'm not sure why home-schooled people assume that public and private school are so much better. As someone that has experience with private and public school I would have gladly been home-schooled instead. The "friends" and "socializing" in school are not as important as one would think. Even the most popular people all forget each other and move on with their lives. We will meet hundreds, if not thousands of people in our lifetimes and not even be able to recall all of their names. The love of good parents is far more important. Not peers. Not even how much stuff we learn in school... Because let's be real, we forget a lot of that also. What better way to be a good parent than to spend time with your child, educating them personally?
In any case, my very best friend is the Lord Jesus Christ and He has never, ever let me down. He is the only one that gave His life for all of us.

Homeschooling mothers should not have to feel like they need to list out all the busyness to prove themselves. People can be just as isolated and damaged (if not more) going to public school. Those who were homeschooled all their lives often have the “grass is greener” mentality about public schoolers because they just DON’T know. I went to public school, private school, and was homeschooled, so I have experienced it all. The grass is NOT greener on any particular side. You have to make the most of what you have, and refrain from that victim mentality so you can constantly move forward. If you feel like you had a “damaging” life experience, it’s so easy to blame our parents for sending us to public school, private school, or homeschooling us, etc. None of us have perfect lives. So go ahead and get your therapy. I’ve had clinical therapy for MUCH worse than being a bored homeschooler. And even much worse than bloody fights and bomb threats at the elementary school I worked at in 2008. Therapy for things that had nothing to do with my “schooling”.
And living in Parkland, FL when the MSD shooting happened, my friends who were mothers of those public school students who attended that school, who watched their public school friends get murdered are STILL in therapy.
Therapy for homeschoolers, therapy for public schoolers, doesn’t matter. We ALL need it for something.

Homeschooling can be down if one is in the lower class, government assistance class on very low resources. You do NOT need to purchase so many workbooks, textbooks, etc. The lower class doesn't have homes with space to keep so many books or have the means to purchase all the fancy pretty books in vogue in the homeschool community. Online it appears homeschooling isn't for the lower classes. It is. It can be done. All these nice, pretty fancy things aren't necessary. Homeschool has become a bustling business.
