Cally, you have a friend in me. We may not know each other, but it makes me proud to see you pass your private pilot check ride and ground exam. Flying alone or with a copilot is going to be much different than flying with an instructor. A copilot can take control of the aircraft if you pass out or have a medical emergency at the controls. A copilot can also run through the checklists and be the pilot flying (pilot in command) or pilot monitoring. The small bushcraft like you and Tyson fly don’t have autopilot, so you have to fly them by hand, and that’s not an easy task, especially for a commercial airline Captain and/or First Officer. Commercial aircraft come factory equipped with autopilot, and the newer, higher tech commercial aircraft come factory equipped with not just autopilot, but also with auto land.

Many, many congratulations Cally! You now have the coveted License to Learn. Sounds like your examiner was a top shelf individual. That you completed the task at 45 hours is great as well. Staying after the training day after day saves a lot vs. only one, maybe two days a week. My check ride was way too many years ago to think about but it is a HUGE day for you. You have entered a very exclusive club. One that can only be achieved and entered into with hard work, dedication and perseverance. Now go get checked out in a 182!

Oh, for the record, I learn to fly in Cut Bank, Montana wind never stops blowing there. A breeze is about 20 miles an hour. If you can crosswind, you will never ever fly in Cut Bank. What was worse id my dad, a 30-year Navy fighter pilot, was my instructor, and he was by the book period

Oh man!! That sounds rough!! Tyson will spray in rough conditions and I don't get how he does it. I don't even want to go for a cruise if it's windy and bumpy 😂
