Hi Tony,
I wonder whether you have ever tested/rated log lifters - ie. rolls the long up off the ground several inches so that you can cut it up with your chainsaw ... without fear of hitting the ground with your chainsaw blade/chain. There seem to be quite a few out there for sale but have no idea as to which might be the best choice. Many thanks. David in Canada
David, that is one thing I have not done. All my rounds/blocks are cut before I start splitting. I use the log lift for a staging area for wood or use it to lift the rounds that are 300 lbs or more on the table. I would be concerned I might bend the table lifting a log, but I guess it’s possible.

Hey guys nice collaboration. Thanks for taking the time with our Wolfe Ridge 17VS! Hope to see you both at Bunyan 👊
Great video Tony & Chris. The upgraded Axis has a 3 sec cycle time, with a Vanguard 23HP EFI gas engine with front electric start and engine RPM control, 28GPM hydraulic pump, hydraulic oil cooler, external fuel tank, optional pivoting conveyor w/ fwd & rev front left control lever. The lift table folds onto the splitter platform without having to disconnect the cylinder with a transport locking pin.
Marc, thanks for the update and conformation on the Axis.
Appreciate you watching and commenting 👍TCT
Great review of the two machines!! Im glad y'all give a complete review, not a one-sided view of tge different tools!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
David we do our best to do an honest and unbiased review. When someone is spending over $10,000 on a piece of equipment they want both the pro’s and cons.

Nice overview of two great machines.
Thanks Heath, like we said you can't go wrong with either machine.

Great video, Tony. Both splitters are absolutely excellent. I always like when you and Chris do a colab.
Tim it’s always fun making videos with “my former best friend “.

Love my 17VS-C. Awesome machine. FYI, the engines vary depending on options. Mine is a larger Honda with a custom aluminum tank similar in construction to the oil tank. I like all the controls on the front. Also like the hydraulic conveyor lift on the WR.
The 17VS is definitely a well thought out machine for sure.
WR took the vertical splitter to the next level when they designed it.
Kudos to Chris and his team for producing an awesome splitter.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Very good video Tony !! Two fine machines ! Ya can’t go wrong with either one of these splitters 👍😎👏🇺🇸🇨🇦
Rick, great to hear from you.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Both WR & Eastonmade are incredibly vertical splitters.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Great splitters! Like you said ya can’t go wrong either way! I have a lot of time on the WR but had the chance to run the Axis at Hoosier! Andrew really cleaner up the dislikes that I had on the new model! That Chris guy you had on should do a channel! He seems ok for a new guy😂 Take care Tony👊🏻
Todd, competition makes consumers the winners.
Just when you think it can’t get better someone raises the bar with new innovation.
Yeah, the new guy is OK for a first timer😂

Great video Tony! You and Chris always do amazing reviews together.
Donald, thanks for your kind words.
Chris and I always have fun working together.

As yall said , both machines are TOP SHEILF . Looking forward to seeing you guys at Bunyan .
Fantastic splitter comparison video. I will be in WI this week splitting a ton of logs!
Glad you enjoyed the video, You picked a hot week to be splitting.

Bert and Adam dropped a new video this morning on using the 17VS Chris has from Bob at WolfRidge... that things a beast
Greg the WR 17vs is definitely a phenomenal commercial splitter. Built like a tank and fast.

Great explaining Tony and Chris😊
Now go put your toys away, and have a nice lunch😊
Rick, we had fun playing with our toys and Chris even shared his toys!

hi there you did a great show together, only kind of splitter for bundle wood . best to both .see you at the PB show . john
John you’re right both machines do a Fanta job at splitting crappy wood and making it bundle quality.
You guys have fun at PB

In regards to a WR vibration test, I placed an ant killer spray can on deck & does not move at all in low speed; but in high speed it does start to 'walk' around alittle.
Good video, Tony
Dale, pretty much that’s holds true for both WR and Eastonmade.
Key thing you’re always trying to do is keep splitter as level as possible.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Great review Tony and Chris. The vertical splitters really shine when making precision cut bundle wood with minimal scrap.
It’s not as fast as your box wedge but boy do the verticals make “pretty” wood.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Hi, great video.
I have a older axis and wood like to try out a new one and I’d like to try out the 17vs
My friend picked up his 1165v the other day…. I’m looking forward to trying it out
I was able to run the new Axis at the Green Bay show. The updates on the splitter are impressive and definitely on par with the upgrades WR has put on their machines last year. It's going to be a hard decision to pick a favorite one since they are so close in features.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Oh forgot to mention check out my review video on the 1165V.
I think you're going to be impressed with the "little Red Splitter". I
ts amazing how fast and powerful it is for only a 7.5 ton machine. 👍TCT
Job well done,
Nice to have choices.
Jean that’s one benefit we have is living in America it’s great having options.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
They’re both awesome splitters. Can’t wait to get my new Axis in the next month or so. 😁
Boy you are going to be one happy camper for sure. The new Axis with all the upgrades and options is an awesome commercial splitter.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
It of been cool to have your new homeowner vertical to compare to the 2.
One of the best improvements the axis made was the way to connect and disconnect the lift table for transportation etc.
I can't speak for the axis put iv had big motor equipment that I was able to add the starter and a battery after the fact as an aftermarket upgrade
Jimmie we shot this video a week before the Green Bay logging show where I was able to try and see all the upgrades on the Axis including the lift table.
I was told the engine mounting base on my VanGuard is different than one using an electric start and not compatible.

Posch hydrocombi 24 turbo is the best splitter I’ve ever used. Made in Austria not sure if you have them over there though.
James after reading your post I checked out the Posch splitter and I’ve not seen them in the US. The folks in Austria definitely know a thing or two about wood and I’m sure sure it’s a well made unit.
Maybe someday we’ll see them in the US or Canada.

As an Owner of a new 17VS-C (with conveyor) , here's some pros and cons- Wolfe vs Easton that I've noticed on mine.
Pros of the 17VS-C listed 1st:
Has Honda Engine w/Electric start. All controls of engine and hydraulics are up front- none on back of unit- this is a HUGE Plus. Hydraulic conveyor lift. Log lift raises completely upwards.
Cons of my Wolfe 17VS-C:
Foot pedal is horrendous. I shortened mine-cut it 2 inches and rewelded it. I had to dig out a hole on ground to use foot pedal as pedal would hit ground 1st before splitting wood. Lot of loose movement on foot pedal still- due to design. Oil cooler fan location is 3 inches from hydro tank- hence blows all the hot air right back onto tank- the very tank/fluid you are trying to cool. Other Wolfe models have the oil cooler on top of unit to disperse heat better and not blow hot air directly onto tank, and wish my 17VS-C had the Oil cooler on top as well.
In the end, you won't go wrong with either unit. Sold my Easton 22/28 to get this Wolfe Vertical splitter.
Jerry thanks for your personal experiences, I think the foot pedal may be something WR will have to check into.
Thanks much for watching and commenting. 👍TCT
Great Reviews guys👍🇺🇸

Great job, great to see the two of you together.
Lawrence, glad you enjoyed the video.

Great video comparing the two splitters. Tony, wasn't there also a knee control lever for the wedge in addition to the foot control lever on the Wolf Ridge? Maybe it was covered and I missed it.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
The knee control you mentioned is on the New Split Fire 1165V vertical splitter which currently ithe only splitter company offering that option.
All other vertical splitters use a foot control.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Hey Tony. Great video as usual. Can you relay what lubricant you and Chris were talking about for the splitter tables? I was wondering if it would work on the Fiskars 16" trimmer head and I have some handsaws that it might benefit.
David, glad you enjoyed the video. The lubricant is called fluid film.
Appreciate you watching and commenting., TCT
Tony!!! You lost weight my friend. You can see it in your face. Between the two machines,(they are both nice) I'll pick the Easton Made. Looking at one now.
Nathan, yes a few pounds have been shed.
You can’t go wrong with either one. Good luck on choosing one.
Appreciate you watching and commenting 👍TCT
Nice review. I don’t think a person can go wrong with either manufacturer. In my opinion, the log lift is definitely a must. I get fatigued from all the lifting during a splitting marathon. 😊
Shane, after trying numerous brands of splitters I wouldn’t own a splitter without a log lift. Talk about a back saver!!!
The main feature about a vertical splitter in my opinion is you can split longer because you body doesn’t wear out from being hunched over.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Hahaha.... Tony tells Chris... You're the exception to the rule!!! Good one TCT!! Fact checked by the Woodhound community!!
Greg, he definitely is “the exception to the rule” in many ways!

Hey Tony… Wolfe Ridge has 2 - E’s, just want my favorite splitter brand to get the credit. 😊 Take care buddy - Great video!
Brendt, my bad! Thanks for calling me out on that one. I should have known better.
Appreciate you watching and commenting TCT
@@TonysCoolTools Didn’t mean to call you out on it Tony, this is a great video comparison. Just want folks to be able to search Wolfe Ridge or Eastonmade vertical splitters and this video to pop up.
@@AroundTheYard-MN Totally get it, I made corrections in the info section so everything should be correct.
Thanks again👍TCT
A vertical splitter would be a great plus for your wood yard Chris. Maybe Andrew will send you one of the new axis splitters.
They are both really nice machines...I have even heard Andrew say the Axis is an Ultra flipped up. I am aware there is more metal and moving parts but have never been able to grasp how the price is almost 2/3 more. It just seems excessive and will be waiting for others to join the competition in hopes the prices start to fall with more competition.👍
Wayne as far as vertical splitters The Split Fire 1165V is 1/3 to 1/4 the price of either the WR or Eastonmade but.... it's also 4 times lighter than the other splitters (450 lbs vs 2500 lbs). Look at the increasing cost of metal and you can see the price on a commercial splitter will more than likely not be coming down much. Like the old saying you get what you pay for. Thanks for watching and commenting TCT👍
Tony what happened to the Split -Fire 1165V. Is it not comparable?
Brendan, though the Split Fire 1165v is a vertical splitter it would be considered a “Pro Grade” splitter but not a commercial splitter.
With that being said I bet the Split Fire would hold its own going against any of the other commercial vertical splitters on the market.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Nice comparison! Those are both AWESOME machines!
Now,,,, what do you think when compared to the new Split Fire 1165? I realize that's a whole different class of machine,,, but is the Axis or 17VS worth 4x the price?
Matt, Only time will tell!
Naturally both WR & Eastonmade can handle bigger piecies of wood and weigh in at 4 to 5 times more than a 1165v and are designed to last a lifetime.
The argument could be made you could wear out 2 to 3 Split Fire splitters and still be money ahead.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Can you contrast your split-fire to your access.
Yes, I will be doing a comparison of the Split-Fire vs Eastonmade Axis in the near future.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Do you like a vertical or horizonal splitter better? I think the vertical would be better to make bundle wood.
James the major reason I love using a vertical splitter is my back. With a vertical splitter I’m always standing up and not hunched over like a Horizontal splitter. And yes making bundle grade wood is easier on a vertical splitter.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Power Split is the best log splitter. Hands down.
Jeo thanks for your POV. I’m just glad there are so many Great brands out there us Woodhounds get to choose from. No one splinter will make everyone happy.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
So when you order the Axis machine and it comes in 2 pieces do you mean the conveyor is separate? Or do you mean the orange table with a splitting cylinder is separate from the blue frame and oil tank/engine? I'm saving up now for a new style Axis with a conveyor and have been wondering about shipping logistics and whatnot so any information I can get I'll take it. Thanks for putting this video together.
You may question Easatonmade when you order the Axis but in the past the conveyor comes separate from the splitter. Fortunately I had it delivered to a local business in town that had a fork lift to remove from the open deck semi.
Definitely a two person job, I used my tractor and an IBC tote along with the help of my son-in-law to install the conveyor to splitter and it was pretty easy. Let me know if you have additional questions.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
@@TonysCoolTools No thank you. I'm worried about the same problem my tractor only picks 2000lbs lol and it doesn't like that much weight I'll let cha know when I finally get one and what happens. Thanks for the response
I’d really like to see someone use both these splitters with 30+ inch rounds. I know they can do it but after an all day split I’d like to know there thoughts.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen 30+ inch rounds going through these machines. They do the job very well.
That would have to be the folks out west with their fur trees. Though I’ve split rounds larger than 30” there are two ways of handling them.
First you work the edges and chunk piecies off.
The other is you split in the center push one half off to the log lift and work on the other half.
I prefer working on larger piecies myself.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
@@TonysCoolTools agreed. I guess I’ll have it figured out in the next month or so.
@@amandadavis9726 30” is no problem. When you get to 35-40” it might get a bit heavy.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
I wish you would have called Tyler ,
He could have brought his monster splitter
Would you be able to use the conveyor to load your dump N&N trailer?
Yes however it doesn't reach to the center of the dump trailer so you have to keep moving some of it by hand when it bunches up on one side
I can increase the conveyor speed and launch the wood a bit further but that takes away from the power of my splitter.
Thanks for watching and commenting TCT
@@iffykidmn8170 You bet, I’m glad I can answer your question's an I appreciate your support 👍TCT
My 5' tall girlfriend has ran both machines. The wolf ridge table is too high for he to split comfortably. She didnt like the foot pedal on the wolf as much as the eastonmade either
You're lucky to have a girlfriend that likes wood splitters!!! Several people have commented on the Wolf Ridge foot pedal so I'm sure Chris at WR will be looking into it.
Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍TCT
The newer axis log lift goes up without un pining it.
Yup there are many new upgrades to the Axis we didn’t cover.
I tried the new Axis with all the upgrades in Green Bay and it was extremely impressive.
I was blown away by the speed.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
the axis vs the 17vs buy a vertical machine that makes you happy they are both excellent, if your working on your own or your not doing any production, if your doing bundle wood or splitting huge round of wood the axis or the 17vs is the way to go both of them produces better wood then horizontal splitters,
Amen to that, I couldn’t have said it better!
Perception is Reality, you're right in that vertical splitters make better looking wood than most horizontal splitters using multiple wedges.

The customer wins everytime when there is competition in play... cost, quality, quantity.... every damn time... our choice to do our homework or not. Most Folks are choosing not to do the homework these days... and it shows in the results.
Greg you’re right, the consumer is the ultimate winner when companies step their game to the next level like WR and Eastonmade have done.

What is a good 100 ft rope for pulling trees
John I don't think I'm qualified to answer that. I've had good luck with Sampson brand in 1/2" or 5/8" bull rope. I would check with TreeStuff.com, Bailey's or Sherrill Tree and have them give you some suggestions based on what your specific needs are.

Table height i think is the only thing you forgot about.
The hole starting thing is going to be interesting after i do my go-kart engine upgrade.
Honda gx160 head on hf 212 short block for dedicated propane use with near 13 to 1 compression.
Will be interesting to see how much it takes to pull start it.
Yup forgot to mention the height on the Axis from the ground to top of table is 36”. Though I don’t know the height on the WR I believe it’s very similar.
